The one stepping onto the battlefield was destiny’s chosen in the world of Pokémon.

A shiny Gengar, having consumed three Ultimate treasures, and captured by Julian—the "cheat-like" trainer of their generation.

Thanks to the three treasures and Julian’s relentless resource investment, Gengar’s Purple potential had begun showing flecks of Gold.

It still couldn’t compare to Metagross, though—Metagross already had one-third of its potential turn Gold, having received the most nurturing.

Even so, Gengar was one of only two Pokémon in Julian’s team whose potential had hints of Gold (one-fifth).

None of his other Pokémon—like Lucario, who had also consumed an Ultimate treasure, showed any signs of turning Gold in potential.

This just showed how insanely difficult it was to reach Gold-grade potential.

“Gengar, huh…”

Rowan raised an eyebrow when Julian sent it out.

He was familiar with most of Julian’s main team and had a rough idea of their strength—except for this Gengar, since Julian rarely used it in battles.

But if anyone underestimated Gengar because of that… they’d be in for a very painful surprise.

“Gen~”

“Hey, snowhead.”

Gengar taunted Abomasnow, beckoning it with a finger, then mimed knocking it out with a punch.

The freezing battlefield weather? It might as well have been a summer breeze to Gengar.

Snow kept falling from the sky, covering the ground in a thin white layer.

Gengar took a few steps forward, leaving tiny footprints, then—finding it amusing—picked up some snow and molded it into a ball.

SPLAT.

The snowball hit Abomasnow right in the face.

Gengar jumped up, cheering: “Yeah! Bullseye!”

Abomasnow: (╬ಠ益ಠ)

'I don’t care if you’re a real ghost or a fake one—I’m turning you into a dead ghost today.'

Despite being part Grass-type, Abomasnow had one of the worst tempers among its kind.

RRAAGH!!

With a furious roar, the snow in the sky suddenly stopped mid-air, as if someone had hit the pause button.

The very next second, the suspended snowflakes hurled toward Gengar like a storm of blades—

Blizzard.

Amplified by the Snow Warning ability, the Blizzard’s power was terrifying. Each snowflake was like a sharp dagger, filling the entire battlefield with relentless fury.

Against such an all-encompassing assault, even Gengar’s absolute invisibility was useless—the Blizzard covered every inch of the field.

"Gen~"

Gengar grinned. Faced with the wide-range attack, it turned into a white shadow, compressing itself down to palm-size and zipped along the ground at high speed.

Blizzard mostly raged forward, and very little of it hit the ground directly.

And with the snow-covered terrain masking its white shadow, Gengar’s movement was undetectable—not even Abomasnow could spot the tiny, darting silhouette.

“Earthquake!”

Rowan quickly countered.

Abomasnow raised its left foot high—and then stomped down hard.

As soon as its foot lifted, the Blizzard naturally ceased. Gengar seized the brief opening and sprang up from the ground.

BOOM!

The ground shook violently in the next instant.

From the moment Blizzard stopped to the Earthquake activating, less than a tenth of a second has passed—such a short window, yet Gengar had already reacted.

As the tremors erupted, Gengar was already floating in midair.

Gengar: “Here you go~”

A Shadow Ball launched from its palm.

Abomasnow retaliated with Razor Leaf, but the leaves were shredded by the Shadow Ball—clearly, Gengar’s move had the upper hand in power.

BAM!

The Shadow Ball struck Abomasnow, sending the massive Ice-type skidding back nearly seven meters.

A Pseudo-Champion Abomasnow, outsped and outdamaged by a mid-stage Elite tier Gengar?!

“Brother, that Gengar is insanely strong!”

Nate’s eyes nearly popped out of his skull. As a Ghost-type specialist with his own Gengar as his ace, he knew exactly how absurd this was.

“Nate, watch closely. How Young Master’s Gengar fights—it’ll definitely help you a lot,” Dean said.

“Yeah.”

Nate nodded. In fact, he didn’t need his brother to tell him—he was already studying every move.

Of course, the Shadow Ball had been weakened by the Razor Leaf, so the damage to Abomasnow wasn’t critical.

“Abomasnow—Magical Leaf!”

Magical Leaf was one of the few never-miss moves. Against such attacks, the only counters were to either fire back with a move of your own—or use Protect.

“Venoshock!”

Gengar spat a stream of purple venom. Thanks to the Posion Pearl, the poison’s power was boosted by 50%. And it was highly corrosive.

As Magical Leaf collided with Venoshock, the glowing leaves were rapidly eroded before dissolving into nothing.

In the end, Magical Leaf was forcefully torn through by the surge of venom, and a large amount of purple poison shot straight toward Abomasnow.

Abomasnow immediately dodged.

The ground where it had stood was instantly corroded into a deep pit.

While dodging, Abomasnow countered with a blast of Ice Beam from its mouth. The frigid energy was so intense that the falling snowflakes instantly crystallized into shards of ice.

“Too slow~”

Gengar once again turned into a moving shadow, darting swiftly across the battlefield.

This was 'Phantom Ambush'—an ability that allowed it to evade attacks while simultaneously closing the distance with its target—a highly practical move in combat.

However, truly mastering this technique was far from easy.

To use it as fluidly as Gengar required not just training, but innate talent—and the latter mattered far more.

[T/N: It's not an actual move but an ability/technique, as stated above. It's not Phantom Force which is something similar but deals damage and Pokémon Unite has something like this I think, but this one is only for evasion.]

Using Phantom Ambush, Gengar slipped under the Ice Beam and, in the next instant, materialized on Abomasnow’s left side, raising its stubby little arm, which now radiated with Ghost-type energy.

It was Shadow Punch, another never-miss move.

WHAM!

The fist slammed into Abomasnow’s jaw.

For a squishy special attacker like Gengar, its punch packed surprising physical force. With that one punch, Abomasnow was actually sent flying.

Its earlier boxing warm-up wasn’t just for show—this guy’s close-range combat ability was legit.

Gengar: 'Even Lucario approves of these fists.'

Abomasnow crashed to the ground, its face throbbing.

Something felt loose in its mouth…

Was that a tooth?!
