Chapter 90 - 90 90 She Killed Someone

Chapter 90: Chapter 90 She Killed Someone Chapter 90: Chapter 90 She Killed Someone On the way back, Qiao En encountered Zhou Jin’an.

He had just come out of the company and was hurrying to a social event that evening.

At the traffic light intersection, he sat in his car and looked out the window, spotting Qiao En on the roadside at a glance.

She was alone and looked desolate, walking forward among the crowd, a sight that pulled at the heartstrings.

“Pull over.”

Zhou Jin’an glanced at his wristwatch and then spoke to Cheng Lu.

The car stopped at the next intersection, and Zhou Jin’an opened the door and walked towards Qiao En against the flow of traffic.

She didn’t notice him, completely immersed in her own world.

“Qiao En.”

Zhou Jin’an opened his arms and suddenly enveloped her in a hug.

The bustling crowd seemed to fade away until only he and she remained.

Qiao En was startled.

She looked up and saw Zhou Jin’an’s eyes shining brightly like stars as he gazed at her.

His sudden appearance filled her with joy.

“Mr. Zhou, why have you come?”

Qiao En wasn’t used to being so intimate with Zhou Jin’an in public and pulled away from his embrace.

He didn’t insist and let go, saying, “I saw you at the intersection, called you, but you didn’t answer, so I came looking for you.”

Qiao En checked her phone and saw that she had indeed missed calls from Zhou Jin’an, having set it to silent mode.

“Sorry, my phone was on silent, I didn’t see it.”

Zhou Jin’an’s eyes were clear. They were on a street filled with various snack foods, the air rich with their tempting aromas.

“I have a social engagement later, but I have half an hour now to spend with you. What do you want to eat? My treat.”

He was usually busy with work, hardly having time to enjoy the simple pleasures of life.

But he remembered that Qiao En loved these snacks.

For a moment, she was touched and joyful, but it was only a moment before she fell back into that vicious cycle.

She was just a substitute for another woman.

Was his kindness towards her simply because she resembled that woman?

“Thanks, Mr. Zhou, but I haven’t been feeling well lately and can’t eat much.”

Qiao En didn’t think too much about it and chose to refuse.

Zhou Jin’an’s eyes darkened slightly, “Then I’ll bring you here next time.”

Which next time? Would there even be a next time?

Qiao En looked up at Zhou Jin’an again. He seemed no different from before. Several times, she had wanted to ask what was the matter between him and that Su Nian.

The two walked slowly along the street as the sun set, casting a warm glow on them and elongating their shadows on the ground.

Cheng Lu called to urge him, “Director Zhou, it’s almost time. You should be going.”

At the intersection, Zhou Jin’an got into the Maybach and waved at Qiao En.

“Go home early, and I’ll come find you when I’m free.”

The car roared off, merging into the traffic flow.

In the following days, Zhou Jin’an didn’t appear again.

One day, Qiao En went to the hospital to get medicine for Father Qiao.

At the prescription counter, Qiao En was queuing when suddenly, Aunt Liu rushed over, grabbed her arm, and shouted, “Whore, you won’t die a good death!”

Aunt Liu wasn’t tall, but she was stout, and having been used to doing heavy physical work, her hands were very strong.

To prevent Qiao En from escaping, she sat down with a thud and clutched her arm tightly.

“Aunt Liu, what are you doing?”

Qiao En was slender, and her waist was nearly broken by Aunt Liu’s grip.

“What am I doing? Don’t you have a clue in your heart? You’ve framed Mrs. Zhou over and over again, and last time Young Master protected you, but this time you won’t escape.”

Aunt Liu shouted.

She was arrogant and loud, attracting sidelong glances from the people around her.

“Aunt Liu, when have I ever framed Mrs. Zhou?”

Qiao En looked puzzled; she wanted to shake Aunt Liu off, but the latter grabbed her so firmly that she could not break free.

“You shameless woman, don’t even try to deny it. The lady despises you, and to seduce the young master, you viciously attacked her. A venomous woman like you deserves the eighteenth level of hell.”

Aunt Liu didn’t directly answer the question, cursing Qiao En with vicious language like a shrew.

Qiao En was kind-hearted, but that didn’t mean she was a pushover.

She didn’t allow Aunt Liu to slander her publicly without consequence.

In the past couple of years, she had taken classes and learned some simple self-defense techniques, which she hadn’t needed to use while with Jin’an. However, today, they came in handy.

She exerted force with her hands, twisting in the opposite direction, and Aunt Liu couldn’t defend herself. Just like that, Qiao En broke free.

Seeing Qiao En trying to leave, Aunt Liu sat on the ground and began to wail hysterically.

“Catch the murderer! Hurry, catch the murderer! She killed someone, don’t let her get away.”

Qiao En had underestimated Aunt Liu’s level of shamelessness. With such a clamor, the uninformed onlookers blocked Qiao En’s path.

“Call the police, hurry up and call the police!”

The crowd was frenzied, and someone indeed dialed 110.

Out of the blue, a cesspool of slander plummeted down, landing squarely on Qiao En’s head.

“Whether I have killed someone or not, let’s wait for the police to arrive.”

Qiao En stayed quiet, her arms crossed, remaining silent.

The police hadn’t arrived yet, but Jin’an had.

Seeing him appear, Aunt Liu, tears streaming down, clutched his arm.

“Young Master, you must go and see, the lady was almost killed by this shameless woman.”

“What happened?”

Jin’an’s expression was ashen. His brows furrowed, he asked in a cold voice.

Aunt Liu pointed at Qiao En, “I just went to call the nurse to change the lady’s medication, and when I returned, I saw her sneaking out of the lady’s hospital room. She pulled out the lady’s oxygen and injected something into her IV.”

“That’s nonsense!”

Qiao En vehemently interrupted, “I never went to Mrs. Zhou’s hospital room, nor did I do what you’re accusing me of.”

Aunt Liu swore vehemently, “Young Master, I saw it clearly, it was her! If I’m lying even the slightest bit, may lightning strike me down and a car hit me when I step outside!”

Jin’an’s dark and deep eyes locked on Qiao En, “Do you have anything to say for yourself?”

A cold feeling tightened in Qiao En’s heart.

He didn’t believe in her innocence?

Suddenly, Qiao En laughed. Between Mrs. Zhou and her, it wasn’t the first time he had chosen the former.

“Mr. Zhou, I’m not eloquent enough to win an argument. Why not let the police investigate? Whether I did it or not, I trust they will find out.”

Jin’an remained silent.

Soon, the police arrived, and a group went upstairs.

Aunt Liu prattled on to the police about what had happened.

Qiao En, her arms crossed, leaned against the wall, her brows locked in a frown but she remained silent throughout.

Mrs. Zhou’s oxygen had been disconnected, and a large dose of sleeping medication had been injected into her IV bottle. Fortunately, it was discovered in time, and she was not seriously harmed.

The hospital room regained its tranquility.

Jin’an stood next to Mrs. Zhou’s bed, his tall figure casting a shadow over her with the light from above.

He clenched that aged hand, his face terribly grim.

Soon, the police returned with the surveillance footage.

Cheng Lu followed behind the officer, his expression just as dark.

“Qiao En, right? Come with us to the police station for questioning!”

The shiny handcuffs were suddenly snapped onto Qiao En’s wrists.
