Chapter 131 - 131 131 Hes Looking for You

Chapter 131: Chapter 131 He’s Looking for You Chapter 131: Chapter 131 He’s Looking for You “Xu Yayun, is that right? You’ve finally woken up. How are you feeling now?”

The doctor, clad in a white coat, stood at the side of Qiao En’s hospital bed and asked kindly.

Qiao En felt as if she were emerging from a dream; she was still alive, not dead.

She moved her eyes around, taking a quick glance at her surroundings before she realized she had returned to a place she knew all too well.

The white ceiling, the blue-striped patient uniform, and the air filled with the scent of disinfectant.

“Where am I?”

Qiao En’s lips were dry, and when she spoke, they cracked slightly.

“Gu Yuan.”

The doctor flipped through her medical records. “A week ago, you were brought in here due to a car accident and have been unconscious ever since. The good news is, you’ve saved your life, but there’s bad news, two pieces of it, in fact. Which would you like to hear first?”

The doctor, with salt-and-pepper hair, adjusted his glasses on the bridge of his nose, his manner of speaking somewhat whimsical.

“Whichever.”

Qiao En tried to move, feeling that one of her legs wasn’t responding well.

“You’ve noticed that your right leg can’t move. The accident caused it severe trauma with a fracture. We have performed a reconstructive surgery on you, and it was very successful. With some bed rest, you should recover completely. As for the scar on your forehead, if it bothers you, cosmetic surgery has come a long way and scar removal shouldn’t be too difficult.”

“What about my child?”

As the doctor spoke, Qiao En interrupted him.

She considered herself lucky to have survived, a silver lining in an unfortunate situation.

Her cool gaze settled on the doctor’s face, awaiting this piece of news.

The doctor shrugged his shoulders apologetically. “You’re still young, and you’ll have plenty of opportunities to have children in the future.”

Qiao En’s eyelids drooped instantly.

The stabbing pain spread from her heart throughout her body.

She clenched her fist, but not a single tear fell.

“Rest well, and if you need anything, let the nurse know.”

The doctor left.

Qiao En stared at the ceiling for a long time, lost in thought.

The escape plan was meticulously crafted with Detective Wu and was supposed to be executed without error.

According to the original plan, she was to have arrived safely in Gu Yuan.

But in reality, she had lost the child and nearly lost her life.

Where had things gone wrong?

Qiao En pondered and pondered until she remembered the black van.

On the way, the driver had said there was a problem with the engine; he got out of the car, and then the rear was struck by something. That’s when Qiao En fell down the cliff.

With this thought, fear took hold in her heart.

This plan, known only to her and Detective Wu, which step had failed?

In the evening, someone visited Qiao En’s hospital room.

It was a young man.

Neat shoulder-length hair tied in a ponytail at the back of his head, he exuded a sullen bohemian aura.

“You’re finally awake?”

He approached Qiao En and casually sat down on the chair beside her bed.

“Good to see you’re awake. I’m here to say goodbye; I’m leaving. Do you need me to contact your family for you? Or, is there anything else I can do for you?”

He spoke quickly and to the point.

“Thank you for saving me.”

When Qiao En had the accident, he and his group were shooting waterfalls at the base of the mountain. They didn’t catch the magnificent scenery of the waterfall, but they unexpectedly saved a life.

“Don’t thank me, thank heaven. It didn’t want to take you yet; you just keep on living,” said the man with a chuckle.

“Can you hire a caregiver for me? I’ll pay for it myself,” Qiao En requested.

The man nodded, “Sure, I’ll take care of that for you. You take good care of yourself. I’m off, until we meet again.”

With that, he strode out of the room.

From beginning to end, Qiao En never knew his name.

He was very efficient, and by the afternoon, the caregiver had arrived.

She was a local, in her forties, and looked honest and simple.

She introduced herself as surnamed Jiang, and Qiao En called her Auntie Jiang.

Auntie Jiang was adept and diligent and not much of a talker.

She bathed Qiao En, changed her clothes, and worried that Qiao En would get bored, she even brought a tablet from her home to play some outdated TV dramas for her.

“Little Xu, you need to cheer up, it’s better to live poorly than to die well. As long as you’re alive, everything is good.”

Auntie Jiang couldn’t offer any profound life lessons, but she always fed Qiao En bowl after bowl of optimistic “chicken soup” whenever she felt down.

After spending most of a month in the hospital, Qiao En’s condition had almost recovered.

The doctor suggested she could be discharged, so Qiao En discussed with Auntie Jiang about hiring her as a private nurse.

“Of course, I’ve gotten used to taking care of you anyway.”

Auntie Jiang readily agreed.

Upon leaving the hospital, Auntie Jiang wheeled Qiao En to her new home.

That small courtyard, she had never visited before; previously, she had entrusted Detective Wu with its care.

“Little Xu, your house is really beautiful, and it’s so close to mine.”

Auntie Jiang remarked with emotion.

“Auntie Jiang, you can go home anytime when you’re free.”

Qiao En said gently.

Auntie Jiang was delighted; she was someone who couldn’t sit still. Once Qiao En went back to her room, she busily tidied up the whole yard.

A new phone and a new SIM card, all were in the drawer.

Qiao En set it up and the first call she made was to Detective Wu.

The phone rang for quite a while before Detective Wu picked up.

He was very cautious and spoke in a low voice, “I’m busy, I’ll contact you later.”

After saying that, he hung up right away.

But soon, a call from an unknown number came in.

Qiao En answered and heard Detective Wu’s voice.

“It’s me.”

“What’s the deal with the van driver?”

Qiao En didn’t beat around the bush, this question had been swirling in her mind.

“I’m not sure, he’s been missing since that day, and I’ve been looking for him everywhere. So, unless it’s something urgent, let’s break off contact for now. I’m planning to go abroad to lay low for a while, and you… since you’re still alive, you should live well. Remember, don’t show your face during this time, someone is looking for you.”

Qiao En was taken aback.

“Who?”

“Who else could it be?” Detective Wu sighed.

Without saying it explicitly, Qiao En could guess.

Alive, he wouldn’t let her go; now that she was “dead,” he still wouldn’t let go.

He was indeed persistent!

“I don’t know what went wrong that day. The bridal car went off the bridge as planned, the driver was fine, but still, someone died in the car.”

“Who?”

Qiao En’s voice trembled as she asked.

“That woman, she was dressed in a wedding gown impersonating you. As a result, an accident happened with the bridal car, and she died.”

Qiao En’s fingers gripping the phone trembled continuously. Who was that woman so similar to her, what was her relation to her, she had never figured out, and now she had just died.

“Secretary Qiao, now everyone thinks the person who died was you—Ding Shao, your parents, they all mistook that person for you. Only Director Zhou hasn’t; he’s sent a lot of people looking for you. If you don’t want him to find you, remember to keep a low profile.”

Qiao En’s heart experienced a great shock.

The death of that woman, Zhou Jin’an’s persistence, it all made her heart churn like boiling porridge.

“All right, I got it.”

Qiao En responded, and Detective Wu quickly hung up the phone.

Outside, Auntie Jiang was arranging Qiao En’s belongings when a brochure fell out of Qiao En’s suitcase. She picked it up, and her face went pale instantly.

Without a second thought, she clutched the brochure and entered Qiao En’s room, “Little Xu, did you used to work at Nanchen?”
