Chapter 989: Chapter 63: Entering the View [Seeking Monthly Votes!]

Jiang Yuebai and his companions waited in the Water Moon Cave for a while before realizing that Chu Liang had disappeared.

"He shouldn’t have any trouble with this level." Jiang Yuebai stared at the cave, shaking his head, unable to believe that Chu Liang would fail here.

"He definitely wasn’t stopped by the level," said Immortal Qi Jing.

After taking another look at the entrance of the Water Moon Cave, he returned, holding a cyan leaf in his hand.

"There are some traces of spiritual power on this, suggesting that he was captured by someone after he succeeded in passing the level," he analyzed. "The only ones who could do something like this here are probably from the Shenxu Temple."

"Why would they capture Chu Liang?" Jiang Yuebai was slightly worried.

"I don’t know," Immortal Qi Jing said. "They probably won’t harm him for the time being. If they wanted to target us, he would not be their first choice. I suspect... could it be that Shenxu Temple wants to recruit a new Guardian, and they are interested in him?"

"Absolutely not!" Jiang Yuebai immediately said.

"Don’t worry, if it’s not voluntary, Shenxu Temple won’t force anyone to become a Guardian," Immortal Qi Jing assured as he looked into the distance. "As for why, we’ll find out when we get there."

They stood at the entrance of the Water Moon Cave, looking out. They could already see the majestic spiritual tide in the distance, enveloping the ancient, vast mountains. At the sky-reaching green mountains, under the shade of ancient trees, there lay an unremarkable Taoist temple.

That place had once been the starting point for Skyroad. Years ago, Saint Li had slashed down an entire expanse of the Shenxu Land and various Divine Artifacts here. The treasures within Shenxu have still not been exhausted by later generations.

His lover was also there.

Wandering the Nine States for dozens of years, he had been searching for that person.

"Let’s go."

With a call from Immortal Qi Jing, the three of them rose on the wind, delving into the mountain range amid the clouds. Using the jungle for cover and concealing their presence, they gradually approached Shenxu Temple.

As they were breaking through the levels, Shenxu Temple must have already received the news; otherwise, they wouldn’t have been able to capture Chu Liang so aptly. However, they still needed to keep their actions as covert as possible, not blatantly attacking the temple.

This had been their strategy from the start: stealing a person was acceptable, but forcibly taking them, absolutely not.

Only now, instead of stealing one person, they needed to steal two.

Against the tide of the clouds, they quickly reached the side of the mountain and saw the true appearance of Shenxu Temple. It was the first time the trio had visited this place, and they paused briefly upon arriving.

They saw the Taoist temple occupying not much space, about half a mountainside, with around ten houses and three to five storied buildings, all rather quaint. Surrounded by four walls painted in weather-beaten red lacquer, it looked no different from the ancient Taoist temples found on the outskirts of small towns.

This was somewhat troubling.

They had assumed that Shenxu Temple would be a colossal structure hidden away from the world, not matching the mysterious and vast architectural style of Shenxu overall. However, thinking about it, it made sense since the temple never housed many people and wasn’t a structure that fell from the Upper Realm following Shenxu’s descent. Its simplicity was probably normal.

But this made sneaking in somewhat difficult.

The trio reached the barrier wall and were about to climb over when the side door creaked open, and a figure stepped out.

It was Yang Buwei.

"Come with me," he said, looking at Immortal Qi Jing and waving.

"Hmm?" The Sword Emperor of the Western Sea was startled, not expecting to have an insider here.

Immortal Qi Jing’s gaze grew solemn, "Was it she who asked you to come?"

"There are prohibitions all around the temple gate; the temple master will know as soon as you try to open it. The last thing I did for Miss Bai was to help you open this door," Yang Buwei said as he stepped back a few paces, standing in the impeccably clean courtyard with his hands sleeve.

"And once you step in, I become the Guardian who has discovered the invaders, and I must act," he added.

...

A breeze swept through the courtyard, lifting a fallen leaf.

Jiang Yuebai and his companions stood outside the gate, watching Yang Buwei, who stood firm without hesitation. Immortal Qi Jing strode in, saying, "I’ll handle him; you two go ahead and try to find the Celestial Pavilion."

As for the direction of the Celestial Pavilion...

Yang Buwei’s eyes glanced toward a small path on the right, implying something.

Snap.

As Immortal Qi Jing’s foot stepped into the courtyard first, Yang Buwei’s expression suddenly changed, becoming sharp and authoritative, like a Heavenly God looking down upon all beings.

Immortal Qi Jing charged forward, and multiple Divine Skills descended along with his form.

Yang Buwei’s response was a press of his fingers, as if creating a barrier that effortlessly blocked all of Immortal Qi Jing’s Divine Skills. It seemed like a fusion of The Forbidden Land and Wanfa Glaze, pressing directly into Immortal Qi Jing’s chest.

Bang!

Catching the finger with his palm, Immortal Qi Jing’s brows furrowed, "What formidable strength."

"This is the difference between Shenxu Temple and the Mortal Realm." Yang Buwei’s gaze was indifferent, even tinged with murderous intent, "You are using True Qi, while I am using... Immortal Breath!"

Hiss—

As soon as he spoke, Immortal Qi Jing’s palm burst into fresh blood.

His cultivation level was definitely higher than Yang Buwei’s, yet the Spiritual Power that Yang Buwei unleashed was extremely pure and powerful, causing his use of Divine Skills to greatly exceed their usual limit. Even though Immortal Qi Jing was of a higher realm, he was still breached.

With a whoosh, Yang Buwei’s finger shot through the air, and Immortal Qi Jing’s figure had already turned into two shattered leaves, while his true body retreated back to the threshold.

If he hadn’t used an Escape Technique to defend against the attack, he probably would have suffered greatly.

In a situation where the difference in spiritual power levels was not huge, the "Immortal Breath" used by Yang Buwei could unleash greater power, swiftly gaining the upper hand.

However, Immortal Qi Jing was not flustered but instead raised his bloodstained palm and suddenly clenched it, "Immortal Breath, is it?"

"Heh." Yang Buwei sneered coldly, "Do you think you can replicate this?"

Suddenly, he darted forward, charging again.

Though he had helped them open the door, it was not out of kindness, but because of the threats from the woman in Celestial Pavilion. This also aligned with Yang Buwei’s intentions, for if he had remained outside the door, these people from Shu Mountain would not have possibly died.

But once inside Shenxu Temple, he could justifiably kill them.

The Shu Mountain Divine Boat that Immortal Qi Jing and Chu Liang had jointly found was the key to the great defeat suffered by the Penglai Upper Sect, which nearly led to its annihilation. Yang Buwei would not admit that his unauthorized divulgence had led Penglai to such a fate; he only felt it was the sin of the Shushan people.

Chu Liang and Immortal Qi Jing were most to blame.

Seizing this opportunity, he was eager to eliminate these Shushan people!

Thinking of replicating Immortal Breath, how easy could that be?!

Boom!

...

While a booming sound resounded behind them, Jiang Yuebai and the Western Sea Sword Emperor had already swiftly run toward the direction Yang Buwei had indicated. Because he had helped open the door, they believed his indicated direction was toward Celestial Pavilion.

But another figure blocked their way.

"Trespassing into Shenxu Temple is no small offense," the dark-skinned middle-aged man said coldly, "Retreat now, or I shall make my move."

Jiang Yuebai had encountered Lu Cang in the Jiuli Secret Realm and knew he was a senior from Shu Mountain. But now he stood backed by Shenxu Temple and could not likely show favoritism. She didn’t say much, only asking, "Senior, is Chu Liang here?"

Lu Cang’s gaze shifted to a pavilion in the middle of the Taoist temple, "The temple master has asked him to return to discuss matters, there’s no danger, don’t worry."

As he spoke, he looked toward another opposite direction, "Celestial Pavilion can observe the events of the world, your arrival was anticipated by our temple master, and nothing could be hidden from anyone."

The Western Sea Sword Emperor’s pupils dilated and he stepped forward, "I’ll stop him, you go find your mother."

Jiang Yuebai looked at Lu Cang, then at the Western Sea Sword Emperor, and promptly let out a "hm" as her figure dashed towards the other direction.

The direction Lu Cang had pointed out was the correct one, and since he seemed inclined to help, he likely wouldn’t strike the Western Sea Sword Emperor severely. With these thoughts flitting through her mind, Jiang Yuebai chose to set off immediately.

Within the small Shenxu Temple, the different factions immediately became clear.

The act of Yang Buwei opening the door was not necessarily kind-hearted; the direction he indicated was false, his intention was clearly to kill those few people!

As these thoughts flashed through her mind, Jiang Yuebai suddenly stopped. The Taoist temple was not large, and she didn’t need to rush much before arriving at an elegant and quiet courtyard.

In the courtyard, there was a pavilion, and within its first-floor threshold stood a woman in white.

The woman was barefoot and disheveled, wearing a flowing white dress, and her face seemed veiled in a soft light, obscuring her features. But the moment Jiang Yuebai saw her, her heart inexplicably skipped a beat.

No proof was needed, just one glance was enough for her to be absolutely certain, the woman before her was her mother. She wanted to call out, but a sourness choked her throat, making it impossible to speak.

She didn’t want to cry, but somehow, tears welled up.

Similarly, the woman behind the threshold also couldn’t utter a word, shedding tears first.
