Chapter 971: Chapter 54: Convinced [Two in One]

"Over Dragon Thorn Ridge, through Demon Slaying Gorge, across Water Moon Cave, to see Shenxu Temple."

Under a gloomy sky mixed with wind and thunder, Immortal Qi Jing, holding a map, nodded towards a towering mountain range shrouded in darkness ahead.

"This is the Dragon Thorn Ridge marked on the map."

Immortal Qi Jing, Sword Emperor of the Western Sea, Jiang Yuebai, and Chu Liang came to Shenxu, following the route drawn on the map. Qi Jing was used to roaming Shenxu and familiar with many areas, so the first half of their journey went very smoothly,

This barren mountain ridge stretched from north to south, blocking the path for thousands of miles, towering into the clouds with not a trace of life in sight. It was not unusual for there to be no creatures in some areas of Shenxu, but a deathly silence without even the slightest sound was somewhat eerie.

Shenxu Temple was a place of danger and mystery in the world, and the journey there was equally unpredictable.

"Let’s scout ahead," said Immortal Qi Jing.

With a gesture of his hands, strands of Spiritual Breath floated away with the wind. Soon, a giant Seven-color Divine Sparrow was attracted, screeching sharply before speeding towards them.

Immortal Qi Jing immediately pointed his halberd forward, guiding the Spiritual Breath towards the mountain.

However, as the Divine Sparrow approached Dragon Thorn Ridge, it suddenly stopped its wings and refused to come closer. Even the temptation of an Immortal Spirit Body’s Spiritual Breath could not overcome its fear.

It just circled outside the mountain, screeching repeatedly.

"It seems that the Demon Beasts around here are all terrified of this mountain," said the Sword Emperor of the Western Sea.

Seeing this, Immortal Qi Jing did not force the Spirit Beast further, but instead pinched some soil between his fingers and flicked it forwards. The moment the soil hit the ground, it transformed into a clone, resembling his appearance, and swiftly flew towards the mountain.

The clone moved forward and soon glided over the area on Dragon Thorn Ridge, seemingly without incident.

"Could it have been a false alarm?" Chu Liang muttered, slightly puzzled.

The clone of Immortal Qi Jing then flew back, leaving the area of Dragon Thorn Ridge, about to land in front of the group, when suddenly something went wrong.

A flash of dark light appeared above the clone, followed by a sudden burst of a ghostly aura, and then it exploded loudly.

Bang—

In a blink of an eye, the previously intact clone had exploded into scattered mud.

"A strand of ghostly energy clung to it, which burst out suddenly after it left the mountain range," Jiang Yuebai, keen in sensing Spiritual Energy, immediately realized what had happened: "There are ghosts beneath this mountain."

"Ghosts?" The gaze of the Sword Emperor of the Western Sea sharpened.

If the identity of the threat had been unknown, there might have been some trepidation, but once they knew what lurked below, there was nothing to fear. They should remember, their team had the combat power of the Peak of the Eighth Realm.

Immortal Qi Jing suddenly stood up and stepped forward, climbing onto Dragon Thorn Ridge, murmuring to himself, "Whatever ghostly creature lurks here, come out and show yourself."

There was no response, only a thread-like wisp of ghostly energy winding up to him.

Immortal Qi Jing focused his energy and lifted his foot, stomping down hard! Boom—

The stones of Shenxu, toughened by constant buffeting by wind and thunder, were far more solid than those of the outside world, normally impervious to ordinary attacks. Yet, his stomp, channeling all the power of The Peak of the Eighth Realm, cracked open a deep crevice.

The crevice followed the direction from which the ghostly energy had attacked, forming a thin line that eventually split deep into the mountain, accompanied by crackling sounds.

Deep beneath Dragon Thorn Ridge, two ghostly fires suddenly blazed into existence!

...

With that stomp from Immortal Qi Jing, the ghostly energy shattered, seemingly calming everything.

Just like that?

This thought barely surfaced in everyone’s minds before they realized it couldn’t be that simple; the Demon Beasts deep in Shenxu wouldn’t be so easily frightened.

There had to be something terribly dangerous here.

Then, in the next instant, the earth shattered and the sky fell apart.

Boom—

Large sections of Dragon Thorn Ridge collapsed, revealing vast expanses of pale inner walls under the black rocks, which weren’t contiguous but appeared as separate entities... like a massive white skeleton!

Indeed, after Immortal Qi Jing leapt into the air, the being below arched upwards, pushing the shattered mountain apart with a roaring sound, unleashing a fierce ghostly wind and finally revealing its entire form!

It was an incredibly enormous Dragon Bone skeleton, its body and claws being of white bone, and its spine adorned with additional rows of blade-like, curved long bones.

The hollow sockets of the Bone Dragon’s eyes flickered with pale green ghostly fires, interspersed with surges of Spiritual Power that seemed to weave like threads around its body. The ghostly filaments also stretched from this core, with countless such threads spreading around the Bone Dragon!

"So it’s a big fellow," Immortal Qi Jing laughed loudly, his body swelling in size as the Law of Heaven and Earth was instantly enacted, matching the height of the Bone Dragon.

Though the Bone Dragon’s body stretched endlessly and he ultimately could not compare, this was enough. With such a stature, his palm pressed down, pinning down the rising Bone Dragon!

Bang!

This palm strike was heavy and powerful, pressing the Bone Dragon down. It seemed that only then did the creature fully awaken, throwing its head back to emit a sky-shaking dragon’s roar: "Roar—"

This roar shocked the area far and wide, causing waves of alarmed noises to spread in the distance, as if every creature with spirit nearby was frantically fleeing, and even the sky responded with thunder and lightning.

But the group was not worried, for no creature could be stronger than one from The Peak of the Eighth Realm, who could summon the Shu Mountain Divine Boat at any time.

Immortal Qi Jing gestured with one hand, summoning rolling Divine Thunder, his cultivation unleashing Wu Lei’s Heavenly Heart, truly creating a vast ocean of Divine Thunder. He used this technique because, for ghostly creatures, righteous Divine Thunder was the most powerful.
