Chapter 890: Chapter 99: For Justice [Vote for Monthly Tickets!]
Meanwhile, on the water’s surface, the red sedan that had arrived was already blocked by a large net downstream, with dozens of strong men dragging it to shore using ropes. Yet, when they lifted the curtain of the sedan, everyone was shocked.
The two ghosts were also shocked, having no idea why they were exposed.
They had taken on the appearances of Chu Yi and Jiang Guo, and this was indeed accurate, normally sufficient to deceive the villagers around them. However, the issue was that the two children were not the ones inside the red sedan.
It was like copying the wrong answers—no matter how identically the handwriting was copied, what use was it?
"Drag them out!" someone immediately shouted.
The two ghosts howled and attempted to flee in their original forms, but given the tight security that day and the presence of cultivators on both sides, as soon as the ghosts turned into green smoke attempting to escape, someone took action and eliminated them.
They could never have dreamt why they were recognized at a glance.
Word of this event had already been reported to Clan Leader Xiao, Xiao Youde. He held his forehead and shook his head in agony, "With disruptions yesterday and ghosts causing trouble today, why is this year’s sacrifice so troubled? Send for all the boats in town, everyone join in and search downstream, we must find the Spirit Child!"
"Yes!"
At this command, the citizens of Ling Guan Town sprang into action, searching downstream for the two children.
Meanwhile, Xiao Youde felt dizzy amid the chaos and hurried back to rest at his residence in town, instructing family members to report immediately if there were any issues.
"Huff..." Supported by his son, he lay down in his bedroom, breathed a sigh of relief, and then quickly said, "You go back and keep watching. I’m fine here, come back and inform me immediately if there’s any news."
"Alright, father, please don’t worry too much," Xiao Youde’s son reassured him, made sure he was lying down comfortably, and then left.
A moment later, Xiao Youde, lying in his bed, suddenly shed his pained expression, replaced with a sinister look, and abruptly got out of bed.
He approached a lamp in the bedroom, twisted it forcefully three times, clanking sounds echoed, and a door opened in the wall which Xiao Youde then entered.
Within the door was a narrow staircase leading downwards. He followed it down into the darkness as if on flat ground, all the way to the deepest part of the earth.
This place turned out to be an extremely vast space.
At the top of this space hung a lamp burning with purple ghost fire, its purpose likely was to provide light for the spirit plants below.
On this ground, large Human-faced Jade Essence Flowers were planted on both sides!
These spirit plants, extremely rare outside, were here in two large flowerbeds, emitting bursts of jade-colored luminescence from the Human-faced Jade Essence Flowers, converging towards two white jade caskets in the center as if being absorbed by the caskets.
Seemingly sensing Xiao Youde’s arrival, the two caskets began to vibrate slightly and then issued a thud twice, the lids suddenly flipped open.
"You’re here?" an ethereal voice sounded.
From the left casket arose a pure black silhouette, seemingly in human form, glossy and crystalline as if made from black jade, shimmering with divine brilliance.
The figure that arose from the right was similarly crafted from white jade, pure white in color.
These two bodies lacked facial features, having only human outlines, and it was uncertain where the voice came from or where it spoke.
"Greetings, ancestors," Xiao Youde quickly bowed in respect.
The entities within the jade caskets were none other than two Seventh Realm Peak Human-faced Mandrill Demon Kings—the Twin Demons long sought by the Dragon Race for thousands of years!
...
"Has the situation been handled?" the Black Ghost King asked in a deep voice.
"As instructed by the ancestors, I’ve pretended to be ignorant about everything and sent the clansmen to look for the Spirit Child," Xiao Youde replied, "The Spirit Child indeed was replaced in the red sedan, and by now should have been captured in the ghost nest below the Water Mansion."
"Whether those little ghosts were eliminated or devoured by the fierce ghosts, it no longer concerns us," the Black Ghost King laughed, "Humph, we can rest easy here."
"No," objected the White Ghost King from the other side, "this place has already caught the attention of the Human Cultivators, we must leave."
"We have to move again?" the Black Ghost King complained. "It took us hundreds of years to finally find a stable place and cultivate a clan willing to make offerings to us. If we leave, everything will have to start over!"
"Starting over is better than losing our lives," said the White Ghost King. "The Dragon Race has been hunting us, and they won’t stop even after ten thousand years! The Human Cultivators will not tolerate us either. As long as we are noticed, we only have one path—death."
"But how long must we keep running?" the Black Ghost King came over to the side of the White Ghost King’s Jade Casket.
"Until we control Tianyuan, that will be enough," said the White Ghost King.
"We have waited for thousands of years," said the Black Ghost King. "The most compatible Daoist Master Wanxiang Technique is monopolized by the Fox Clan of the Far West, and the Daoist Xushi is hard to comprehend. Until today... when these Human-faced Jade Essence Flowers mature and our bodies reach the Perfection Stage, we might have a chance to master the Daoist Xushi. But if you leave again, these Human-faced Jade Essence Flowers will all be left behind, and it will take us at least another few hundred years to cultivate them again!"
"Then we will spend a few hundred more years," the White Ghost King said firmly. "We must leave, our survival until today is because we have been cautious enough. If we greed for temporary stability, we should have died three thousand years ago."
"This..." the Black Ghost King seemed unconvinced.
Just then, another voice suddenly echoed in the underground space.
"He’s right. You indeed should leave."
A young man clad in brocade emerged from the darkness, his presence completely undetected by the two Ghost Kings.
This was not because they were careless, but because Chu Liang possessed a stealth technique specifically to counter detection, called the Spirit Cat Microstep.
The drawback of the Spirit Cat Microstep was its slowness—extremely slow, the kind of slow where an elderly lady could cover two laps to and fro during a morning vegetable run.
But the advantage was that once activated, it made him almost absolutely undetectable. At the same cultivation level, no one could detect Chu Liang’s silent steps.
Chu Liang had followed Xiao Youde down earlier, and it took him until now to reach this point. Yet he had finally achieved his goal of encountering these two large Human-faced Mandrills, his excitement barely contained internally.
"You..." Xiao Youde retreated in panic, "how did you find this place?"
"By using the Heavenly Star Oddity Technique," Chu Liang said with a smile.
Ye Yongxing and Lin Bei hadn’t reached the Seventh Realm, so Chu Liang didn’t let them come down to face the enemy directly but assigned them other tasks. However, their contributions were what enabled him to pinpoint this location.
"You hid here, and with treasures shielding heavenly secrets, it indeed was hard to find," Chu Liang pointed at Xiao Youde. "Unfortunately, he doesn’t possess such treasures."
"You had the Xiao Family clan making sacrifices to you for so many years. Without the Clan Leader Xiao’s help in maintaining these rituals, it couldn’t have continued. So I deduced that even if other Xiao Family members were unaware of your conspiracy, the Clan Leader certainly knew."
"The nest of ghosts you arranged in the Water Mansion was indeed very convincing. If I had truly stumbled upon it by chance, I might have believed that it was all the doing of that nest of Ghosts."
"Unfortunately... I came specifically for you."
Chu Liang looked at the two Human-faced Mandrills, his gaze as illuminating as torch fire in the dim space.
A moment ago he had observed Jiang Guo slaughtering that nest of Ghosts with his Divine Sense and immediately realized something was amiss. If it were just a nest of mischievous Ghosts, it shouldn’t have had any connection with the Twin Demons at all, thus making the divination incorrect.
Just then, when Xiao Youde disappeared, Chu Liang determined there was something off about him and had Ye Yongxing help calculate his location using the Heavenly Star Oddity Technique. Since Xiao Youde didn’t possess an item to shield against heavenly secrets, Ye Yongxing’s calculation showed he was in his own bedroom, although the rest was a bit vague, it was still revealing enough.
And with Lin Bei looking after the children, preventing them from disturbing the focused Ye Yongxing, he also contributed significantly.
"You came specifically for us?" questioned the White Ghost King.
"Yes, I have an inevitable reason to eliminate you! And that is..." Chu Liang drew his Demon-slaying Sword, his tone resolute, "Justice!"
Indeed.
He stood there today for the sake of justice and righteousness—to eradicate evil spirits!
