Chapter 885: Chapter 95: The Origin of the Vengeful Spirit [Two in One]
"The so-called Observing Heavenly Meridian actually focuses on reasoning and deduction," Ye Yongxing explained earnestly while standing on the Flying Boat. "The Starry Sky reflects the mortal realm, with divine light untainted by flaws. We may not know all the outcomes, but everything has its own trail."
"I see," Chu Liang said as he listened. He then asked, "If we acquire more information during the investigation, can we continue to hone in on a more precise result?"
"Precisely," replied Ye Yongxing. "That’s why my master sent me to assist you, so that as soon as there are any clues, we can delve deeper into the deductions immediately."
Through this conversation, Chu Liang had gained a rough understanding of the principles behind "Observing Heavenly Meridian" and "Omniscience."
The vast starry sky is like a giant mirror, recording all the karma of the mortal realm. "Omniscience" allows us to find the parts we are searching for from this karma. If the secrets of fate are not obscured, one can almost instantly pinpoint the desired object.
However, some cultivators are very adept at using treasures or arrays to shield themselves from the heavens, leaving other divination methods helpless. Observing Heavenly Meridian, though, can deduce the cause and effect to narrow the possible location of the target as much as possible and suggest potential paths.
The two sentences from Wentian Cave were the paths eventually provided by "omniscience."
"The birthplace of the Jade Spirit Flower" likely corresponds to the place where the Twin Demons were born, leading to the creation of the Human-faced Mandrill through the emergence of the Human-faced Jade Essence Flower.
"The road where the resentful ghosts come from" could correspond to the same place, or it might be a clue leading elsewhere; that’s for us to determine upon arrival.
As for the birthplace of the Twin Demons, it has been lost to time for three thousand eight hundred years, unknown even to the Dragon Race and beyond anyone’s knowledge. But to "Omniscience," this is not an issue.
At the time of their birth, the two Human-faced Mandrills had no ability to shield the secrets of fate, and this moment has been forever recorded in the Starry Sky.
Soon enough, Immortal Wulou gave Chu Liang a location.
Xizhou, Cypress Moon Valley.
It is a scenic spot in Xizhou known for its moonlit mountain views. There has been no mention of any Heavenly Material and Earthly Treasure growing there. It seems that nearly four thousand years have passed, and the Spirit Vein of the land has changed.
After all, the flow of Spiritual Energy is like water; its depletion and movement are commonplace. And of course, there’s a small chance it may have been excavated by some lawless rogue.
Standing alongside them was none other than Lin Bei, the leader of the Four Tyrants of Shu Mountain.
He was there because Chu Liang’s current identity was rather sensitive and not suitable for public appearances. With many eyes within and outside of Shu Mountain watching him, he was traveling concealed within Lin Bei’s Flying Boat.
Since Chu’s own Liang Longhao was no longer usable, he was making do with Lin Bei as a temporary driver.
Listening to Ye Yongxing converse cheerfully with Chu Liang, Lin Bei’s urge for social interaction flared up, and he approached to join the conversation. "Since Immortal Wulou has dispatched Young Hero Ye to assist, he must hold you in high regard. Your Heavenly Star Oddity Technique must certainly be exceptional," he said.
Ye Yongxing turned and glanced at Lin Bei, his look briefly one of disdain as if he had seen something filthy, then quickly looked away, replying with a noncommittal, "Hmm."
"..." Lin Bei blinked.
What’s with that disdainful glance?
"Don’t take it the wrong way," Chu Liang interjected to smooth things over. "Brother Ye naturally possesses the mystical ability to ’see the Underworld,’ capable of seeing each person’s manner of death; he feels discomfort upon facing common folk, it is not contempt."
"Right," added Ye Yongxing.
"Ha ha ha!" With a chuckle, Lin Bei asked, "Well then, Brother Ye, could you reveal how I will die?"
"Recklessly revealing the secrets of fate can backlash, so I’ll hold back my words. I’ll just give you a piece of advice..." Ye Yongxing murmured under his breath without looking at Lin Bei, "Exercice restraint."
...
The moonlight fell into the clear valley, shrouding it in a misty glow, with silver-white butterflies fluttering around a column of light as if performing some devout ritual.
To a cultivator, this spectacle is easily understood. It’s just the gentle moonlight bestowing nourishing radiance, which for these little creatures represents a rare dose of Spiritual Energy. Regular exposure might one day enlighten their Spirituality, transforming them into mountain sprites.
This place was Cypress Moon Valley. The trio landed their Flying Boat, with the valley atmosphere ethereal and the sound of spring water trickling.
"Strange," commented Ye Yongxing. "Cypress Moon Valley isn’t desolate wilderness; many people come here to view the scenery in the evening. How come there isn’t a single tourist around when the moon is high?"
"Seems like something must have happened," Chu Liang said as he covered the valley with his Divine Sense yet detected nothing unusual.
It appeared to be a tranquil and beautiful valley, nothing more. It did not seem like a place that hid two Human-faced Mandrills. If this were all the information they had, he might have to stop his search here.
But Chu Liang was not ready to give up.
He donned the Red Demonic Helmet, transforming into the prawn-headed man once again, and instantly his Divine Sense expanded vast and wide—bam—
Divine Sense surged like a torrent, reaching dozens of miles around the valley. At last, he detected the resentful auras of two ghosts, those two resentful spirits who were leisurely approaching the valley.
"Let’s go see."
Without delay, Chu Liang flighted swiftly and in a blink, arrived dozens of miles away.
In the pitch-black wilderness, two faint ghostly figures floated forward, seemingly driven by instinct alone. But as the three cultivators appeared, the ghosts, as if naturally, halted, turned, and began to veer in a different direction.
