Chapter 850: Chapter 62: Master Chu Must Have His Reasons for Doing This [Two in One]
Why did Thunder Fortress side with Talisman Sect?
After the news of the great assembly of the Nine Heavens and Ten Lands spread, all the Immortal Sects were puzzled. It was clear that since the Heavenly King Sect had breached Thunder Fortress, Thunder Fortress could only rely on Penglai’s protection to survive. Why would they suddenly turn against them?
It wasn’t until Chu Liang arrived at Unbounded Palace that he learned the whole story.
"You have been running around outside these past few days, so I didn’t get to tell you about this," Master Wen Yuan said with a chuckle, "all credit goes to you, remember the Du Wuhen you brought over previously?"
"Ah..." Chu Liang suddenly recalled.
He had previously settled Du Wuhen and Elder Mayfly, the two brothers, on the Stone Mining Islands and had even sent quite a number of people over to help them mine. Their interactions had been fairly close, and they had shared several meals together.
During the banquet, they started talking about their biggest regrets.
Chu Liang said his greatest regret was establishing Red Cotton Peak, despite having no interest in Spirit Stone Coins, yet being forced to toil every day for them.
Lin Bei admitted his greatest regret was not fulfilling his youthful dream of becoming a relaxed and weary brothel owner.
He had never thought his cultivation talent would allow him to stay on Shu Mountain, but accidentally ended up being one of the Four Tyrants of Shu Mountain. It seemed he would never "graduate" from Shu Mountain in this lifetime.
Master’s greatest regret was, naturally, not being very "polite" in the past and having done many wrong things.
After holding back for a long time, Du Wuhen finally revealed his biggest regret was believing Penglai’s lies, which incited the conflict between Thunder Fortress and Heavenly King Sect.
It was only then that everyone truly understood that the incident was indeed instigated by Penglai from behind the scenes. It had always been speculation, until Du Wuhen, a person directly involved, confessed with his own lips.
After thinking it over, Chu Liang suggested, "In that case, Brother Du, why not make amends and try to help mend the relationship between the two sects?"
As Du Wuhen hesitated, it was Lin Bei who persuaded him, "Ah Du, have you still not figured it out after drifting around for so long? Thunder Fortress is your foundation; a man cannot stand without his roots!"
Du Wuhen was suddenly enlightened.
Can a man live without roots?
No!
Though he still had some hesitations, Chu Liang didn’t force him, and later returned to Shu Mountain to attend to other matters.
During his days at Zhongshan Scabbard, Du Wuhen had come to Shu Mountain in Chu Liang’s absence, and it was Master Wen Yuan who personally received him. After being touched by his words, Du Wuhen agreed to confess about the past.
Then, with Shu Mountain’s facilitation, Heavenly King Sect and Thunder Fortress, two old enemies, sat down at the same table. Although the atmosphere was still hostile, Master Wen Yuan’s presence ensured no violence broke out.
However, when Master Wen Yuan called Du Wuhen out, the situation almost escalated. Thanks to the presence of Empress Feng and Daoist Yan behind him, providing considerable deterrence, they were able to suppress the tensions.
Once Du Wuhen openly confessed his wrongdoings and collapsed to the ground in tears, he was willing to come forward and clear the air, urged by the people of Shu Mountain and, more significantly, overwhelmed with guilt from Huang Ling’er’s previous rescue.
Huang Hanshan had suspected this all along, but now he finally had irrefutable evidence.
Afterward, members of both Heavenly King Sect and Thunder Fortress realized that nearly all their past disputes had been secretly instigated by Penglai.
"Did you do this?"
"No, and this, was it your doing?"
"No, it wasn’t!"
"..."
Everybody had thought Penglai was merely exploiting their conflicts for profit, but they never imagined it was the mastermind behind everything. To weaken Heavenly King Sect and draw Thunder Fortress to its side, it had been weaving these secretive plots and conspiracies.
Now the two sects put their past grievances aside, united in their enmity against Penglai Upper Sect. Heavenly King Sect made a bold statement; we of the Nine States Sects are branches of the same root, if Penglai dares to oppress you, our Starry Sky sect will protect you.
Although Heavenly King Sect’s power was not on par with Penglai, they had the support of their brother sects, and banding together, they could make Penglai wary.
As a result, Thunder Fortress surreptitiously defected, revealing its fangs on the day of the great assembly of the Nine Heavens and Ten Lands.
Before the assembly, Huang Hanshan’s stance was that he would definitely support Town Star Island, even if he might not be elected, as a show of loyalty.
Then, during the voting, he did not hesitate to cast his vote for the Talisman Sect, ones who helped expose the conspiracy, recommended by Shu Mountain Sect, which unbeknownst to its own members, cast the decisive vote that changed the course of the battle.
With that vote, Penglai was outraged, Heavenly King Sect sneered, Huan Leisheng was pleasantly surprised, and Chu Liang was utterly bewildered.
What the heck?
Up until now, with only Huan Leisheng standing alone in the Talisman Sect, could they actually become one of the Ten Earth Sects?
The world is too crazy.
All the competing sects were beaten black and blue, and none could snatch the spot; Huan Leisheng was dazed for a moment, then achieved it?
Shu Mountain’s original intent was to not offend anyone, but now they couldn’t help but subtly offend the other fiercely competing sects. However, having another little brother in the Ten Earth Sects was not necessarily a bad thing. They didn’t think they could succeed even if they tried hard in the election, so if a pie falls from the sky, of course you take it.
But now, Talisman Sect was faced with a significant problem.
...
"Taking disciples?"
The next day, during the meeting at Red Cotton Peak, Huan Leisheng looked at Chu Liang, and he paused when suddenly told to take on disciples, then immediately nodded and said, "Master Chu asks me to take disciples, so I shall take them."
His look towards Chu Liang could no longer be described as mere admiration; it even carried a hint of devotion.
