Chapter 838: Chapter 58 I Have a Dream [Two-in-One]

"Back then, it was just a nameless little island, and now maybe even the island is no more..."

Xu Ziyang repeated what the spirit of Bronze City had said, while he gazed into the distance, a troubled expression on his face.

Beside him, Lin Bei and Chu Liang, who were levitating shoulder to shoulder, also looked in the direction of the distance, both frowning. Lin Bei cocked his head and said, "He calls this a ’little island’?"

"It’s been so long," Chu Liang said. "The lands may have changed; parts of that small island might have joined here for all we know."

They had flown around the Eastern Sea for five days and finally felt a hint of warmth and vibration coming from the copper talisman.

After tens of thousands of years, the array runes on the copper talisman still contained spiritual power and were operable, which spoke volumes about Jiuli’s artifact refining technique. It wasn’t uncommon for large magic artifacts to endure for ten thousand years, but the survival of such small items truly highlighted their significance.

As they approached a certain direction, the vibrations from the copper talisman grew stronger, until they arrived in front of an island.

To be precise, three of them.

Penglai, Fanghu, Ying State.

Indeed, before them lay the Three Islands of Penglai deep in the Eastern Sea! Beneath the colorful clouds and mists, the islands were boundless and wrapped in immortal breath, while Mirage Mountain above the clouds appeared to be the divine abode of deities.

The copper talisman was located within the Three Islands, at the foot of Mirage Mountain.

"This is indeed a bit troublesome," Chu Liang also said with a wry smile.

The Three Islands beneath the Lower Sect are inhabited and contain numerous Heavenly Material and Earthly Treasures; it’s the foremost fairyland that absolutely forbids outsiders from entering. In contrast, Mirage Mountain, where the Upper Sect resides, serves as a receiving ground for guests from various Immortal Sects.

If it were any other Immortal Sect, Chu Liang could perhaps have smoothed things over with his connections. As the chief disciple of Silver Sword Peak of the Shu Mountain Sect, he certainly wouldn’t stoop to stealing Spirit Plants from someone’s Sect.

The relationship between Shu Mountain and Penglai had always involved conflicts, though they rarely surfaced overtly. At most, Shu Mountain’s greater proximity to the Heavenly King Sect meant that Penglai faced both open and covert opposition, but everyone remained civil on the surface.

However...

Recently, a bold hero from Shu Mountain came by and openly executed Qi Lin’er with a single sword strike in front of all the Immortal Sects.

Since then, the conflict between Shu Mountain and Penglai had escalated to plain sight, and now, Shushan people had to be extremely cautious when they traveled around the Eastern Sea, to say nothing of entering their Sect.

It amounted to a case of the previous generation chopping down a tree and the next suffering from the exposure, except now, somehow, the log had fallen right on their own heads.

"If it really doesn’t work out, shall I think of something?" Lin Bei suddenly said. "I have two... in the Penglai Upper Sect."

"You have friends in Penglai too?" both Chu Liang and Xu Ziyang exclaimed, surprised.

We knew you were well-connected, but we didn’t expect you to have gotten in with the enemy camp.

"I haven’t betrayed us, and they aren’t friends," Lin Bei quickly waved his hand, and then added, "I have two downlines in the Penglai Upper Sect."

Chu Liang: "?"

After Lin Bei explained, Chu Liang began to grasp the situation.

As it turned out, the Penglai Upper Sect strictly prohibited its disciples from interacting with those from Shu Mountain, and even though Red Cotton Peak had been thriving over the past few years, the people from Penglai hadn’t set foot there.

But Mirage Mountain was divided into three factions; the main Penglai line and the Fanghu line from Daoist Chi Niu, both of which were antagonistic towards Shu Mountain, naturally resisted fiercely.

The faction from Ying State, where Xi Miaoxian belonged, was known for advocating peace and keeping out of conflicts. Their subjective resistance to joining the boycott had always been somewhat half-hearted.

Later, some Upper Sect disciples from the Ying State faction secretly harvested Spirit Plants on the Three Islands and sold them to Red Cotton Peak. Lin Bei became acquainted with a few of these individuals, and gradually developed two of them into downlines, serving as Shu Mountain’s eyes within the Penglai Upper Sect.

"Actually, Penglai uses these tactics the most. They have spies planted all over the Nine Heavens and Ten Lands, always instigating turmoil," Lin Bei said. "Like when the Heavenly Star Divine Sect fractured, it’s not unlikely it was due to Penglai spies stirring things up behind the scenes. They even tried to split the Thirty-Six Peaks of Shu Mountain in the early years, but thankfully, the Sect Leader and the Zhenshan Elders stood united and quickly neutralized the impact."

Chu Liang then understood that such struggles had always been ongoing; he had simply never been exposed to that level before.

Xu Ziyang, who had managed affairs for six years, already knew about this and thus was not surprised.

"The Penglai Upper Sect harbors unending malice towards us," Lin Bei lamented at last.

He took out the token from his companion circle and sent out a message; soon, two streaks of rainbow light crossed the distant sky.

In truth, it was now quite convenient to open private realms in the companion circle, but Wen Yulong had always failed to find enough Spiritual Sense to manage the complicated messages, so the Soul Realm tokens that allowed for private messaging had not yet been widely implemented.

After all, if it could not be regulated, the companion circle might well become a convenient tool for evil spirits and treacherous villains to commit unlawful acts, and in that case, it would be better not implemented at all.

But a few of Chu Liang’s close supporters had already received the latest companion circle capable of opening private realms, including Lin Bei.

"Brother Lin!" As the two streaks of rainbow light approached, both garbed in the green robes of Penglai’s young disciples, they greeted in unison, "Did you call for us?"

"Yes, let me introduce you. This is my upline, Chu Liang of Shu Mountain," Lin Bei said, pointing at them in turn. "These two are Penglai’s righteous defectors, Lin Chuan and Xue Pu."

Upon hearing this, Lin Chuan and Xue Pu both smiled, "We can’t exactly call ourselves righteous. It’s really just out of regard for Brother Lin."

Of course, the most important thing was the hefty rewards that came with working with Lin Bei.

After exchanging pleasantries, Chu Liang turned to the serious matter at hand. He pointed towards Fanghu Immortal Island, one of the Three Islands of Penglai indicated by the copper talisman, and asked, "We wish to enter Fanghu Island to search for something. Do you have any ideas on how we might do that?"
