Chapter 820: Chapter 49 What? [2 in 1]_2

The troop was each about ten feet tall, all humanoid in form, with the upper half of their bodies resembling various beasts. Every one of them was clad in dark cyan armor, with a thick helmet and face guard on their heads, and wielding weapons inscribed with strange array runes in their hands—they were armed to the teeth.

"Trouble approaches," Jiang Yuebai also noticed the troop and immediately voiced a warning.

Scramble scramble scramble—

In just a few moments, they emerged from the underbrush directly ahead, assuming a battle-ready stance with blades brandished, shouting, "Lowly Human Clan, how dare you approach Jiuli City!"

Their accent was thick and strange, making it somewhat difficult to comprehend, but one could still roughly make out what they were saying. Given their appearance, could they actually be members of the Jiuli tribe from ancient times, believed to be extinct?

With beastly heads, bodies as tough as bronze and iron, and skilled in metallurgy, they were known to be the most brave and proficient in battle.

"Elder Tan, perhaps your family has some influence here?" Chu Liang whispered.

Out and about with unclear circumstances, it was best to prioritize communication for now.

So, Elder Tan stepped forward and loudly declared, "We are not trespassing uninvited; I am a descendant of the Tan Clan, most loyal to the Jiuli God!"

"The Tan Clan?" The Jiuli Warriors opposite them paused at the mention, but then declared assertively, "Never heard of it, execute them!"

With the command, several Jiuli Warriors all raised their weapons, and a ferocious intent washed over them, putting even Chu Liang under some pressure.

"Elder Tan, it seems you truly have no influence," he said helplessly shaking his head and immediately drew the Demon-slaying Sword, with Sword Qi bursting forth in an instant.

Hiss—

The Sword Qi roared out, enveloping the sky and sweeping across all the Jiuli Warriors!

The Demon-slaying Sword also had a buff against the Jiuli Tribe, it seemed the Divine Artifact was not solely against demonic creatures but equally hostile to any being outside the Human Clan.

Boom!

Numerous strands of Sword Qi converged, eventually exploding with a roar. These Jiuli Warriors were by no means weak, but Chu Liang’s current might was vastly improved from the past, and he could be called a great power in any era.

Surprisingly, although Chu Liang unleashed at least seventy percent of his cultivation with that strike, even though the Jiuli Warriors were decimated, most of them were severely injured but not dead, merely incapacitated.

This was due to their Jiuli Armor and their bronze and iron skin, which formed a defense several hundred times more solid than the flesh of ordinary demon beasts, resulting in astonishing effectiveness.

It’s no wonder that in the later generations, after countless years, the artifacts and armor from the Jiuli Secret Realm accumulated and were considered treasures.

Although this group of Jiuli Warriors was taken care of, they weren’t all there was; the sound of incoming footsteps grew loud, and from the underbrush, dozens of Jiuli brutes emerged to surround them tightly.

"Cease your actions!"

Just as a battle seemed inevitable, a commanding voice suddenly came from within the forest.

This time, the Jiuli Beast People that came out did not wear armor but were draped in colorful beast hides, with a fox head painted in brilliant colors on one of them. One held a copper staff in his left hand and looked to be the leader of the group of warriors.

"Your Holiness the Priest," the Jiuli Warriors greeted in unison, "There are intruders here."

"Have you not seen the noble Iron Eating Beast over there?" The Jiuli Priest, robed in beast skins, pointed with his hand, and the ferocious Jiuli Warriors finally noticed that indeed, a small beast was cowering at Elder Tan’s feet.

It was less than half the height of a person and, apparently scared by the combat that just happened, was tightly curled up, its paws covering its eyes as it tried to hide itself behind Elder Tan.

It seemed to think that if it couldn’t see them, they wouldn’t hit it.

This innocent and cute sight, in the eyes of these Jiuli Warriors, transformed into utmost terror.

A series of thuds ensued as all the Jiuli Warriors kneeled heavily on the ground, shouting loudly, "Great Iron Eating Beast!"

The little creature seemed to hear itself being called and, not daring to open its eyes, peeked discreetly through a gap in its paws. Seeing everyone kneeling, its small black bean-like eyes blinked, seemingly unclear about what was happening.

The Jiuli Priest, however, knelt on one knee; he looked toward the Iron Eating Beast and asked softly, "Noble Iron Eating Beast, are these your servants?"

Hm?

The Iron Eating Beast looked bewildered by the question, its pair of bean-shaped eyes unsure how to react.

Chu Liang, quick to respond, immediately answered, "Yes, that’s correct."

Elder Tan nudged the Iron Eating Beast lightly with his foot, prompting the little one to nod eagerly, although it seemed unclear whether it understood the implication.

"If that’s the case, you are entitled to enter Jiuli City," the Priest lifted his head, his gaze turning cold as he looked at the group, "But remember, within Jiuli City, the Human Clan must stay close to the Iron Eating Beast. Otherwise, if you stray three steps away, you’ll become food."

...

The largest city in the Nine States is Yu Capital City, yet in comparison to Bronze City, its size was perhaps less than one percent. Chu Liang looked around to find the city walls extended as far as he could see, the area enclosed within must have been at least as large as a province, if not larger.

All the buildings within were made of bronze and metal; the sheer amount of material used was staggering, leaving one to wonder how long it took them to construct such a grand scale.

Of course, there was a reason for the massive size of the city.

Its inhabitants were not of the Human Clan, but the massive Jiuli. The Jiuli Warriors encountered earlier who stood ten feet tall were merely average; some Jiuli Beast People were even taller, reaching up to twenty or even thirty feet tall. These Beast People typically wore no clothes, but were covered in armor, whether light or heavy.
