Chapter 810: Chapter 46 You’re Not Even Willing to Call Me Master Chu [Thanks to Alliance Hierarch "Lao Liu824"!]
"Even Penglai’s influence is resisted by all and unable to expand to the Nine States. Even if you gain control of the Ten Lands, do you really think you can reach out? Thus, your position as Penglai’s hounds is firmly fixed, and there’s no changing it."
"However..."
"I may not be much, but I can help you change the status quo."
Chu Liang’s voice was full of seduction, causing Hong Jufeng to be astonished time and again. This was not the kind of divine skills that the Great Master of Mars wielded, but rather because Chu Liang had struck a chord deep within him.
As a member of the younger generation of Town Star Island, Hong Jufeng truly felt bored with a life only confined to a corner of the Eastern Sea.
Every sect in the Immortal Cultivation World actually has its own general sphere of influence, where they can participate in the struggle for secret realms, treasures, or fairylands, and where they are first in line for tasks such as dealing with Evil Demons and evil spirits. Even if there are disputes, they happen between neighboring Immortal Sects.
If a sect from afar comes to snatch these, it will be seen as an overstep.
The range of influence varies; smaller ones cover three mountains and five lakes, while larger ones span an entire region.
The influence of the Ten Earth Sects roughly corresponds to one of the Four Regions, and they usually do not leave their own region to operate elsewhere. Only the Nine Heavens Immortal Sect is generally free to go to any corner of the Four Seas and Nine States.
When Chu Liang and his fellows took on missions at Sword Exchange Pavilion, even though most were in the Southern Region nearby, occasionally they would run from one end of the world to the other, something unthinkable for disciples of smaller sects.
This unlimited expansion of influence is one of the advantages of the resources of the Nine Heavens and Ten Lands.
But there are exceptions.
Take the Lunar Sect, for example. Although they are a Nine Heavens Immortal Sect, they are extremely reclusive. They seldom leave their corner of the North Region to fight for resources. However, they also do not allow outsiders to come near their territory, even if they are also sects from North Region. For such self-enclosed behavior, the various Immortal Sects are actually quite happy to let it be.
Similarly, the Penglai Upper Sect, although they have long existed as the foremost sect of the Righteous Path, is situated far from the mainland in the Eastern Sea and has the Penglai Three Islands, which is the first fairyland in the Mortal Realm. So, they do not really need to leave the Eastern Sea.
Apart from being self-sufficient, one of the major reasons why Penglai does not come ashore is the blockade of Nine States Immortal Sects.
Led by the Imperial Court and including Tianxing Branches and sects like Shu Mountain and Heavenly Gang Sect, they have actually long been resisting Penglai’s power coming ashore, both openly and secretly. This is because everyone knows how strong it is; once it expands to the Nine States Land, it is likely that no one will be able to contend with it.
Just give Penglai a domain to let loose in exploring secret realms and recruiting Immortal Cultivation talents, and soon within that land, aside from Penglai and its lackeys, it will be hard for any other Immortal Sects to survive."
Over the years, the Penglai Upper Sect has been secretly making moves, using establishments like Taotie City and Thunder Fortress to infiltrate, in order to break this joint resistance and expose its fangs.
As Penglai’s hounds, Town Star Island has certainly reaped many benefits in the Eastern Sea, but it has also shared in the bitterness, facing difficulty in landing onshore.
Not to mention anything else, Hong Jufeng was sick of eating seafood, and he was fed up with only getting to eat a roasted lamb leg when his father hosted a feast.
Hey?
Speaking of which, Hong Jufeng suddenly remembered that he had left his lamb leg elsewhere, and it must have cooled down by now...
Thinking of that made him terribly sad.
Seeing Hong Jufeng’s expression turn somber, Chu Liang knew his words had been taken to heart, and continued, "If you want to connect with the Nine States Land, Red Cotton Peak is the best gateway. I think the first step could be to use the Zhenshan Stone as an incentive, to allow the spiritual mines of Town Star Island to flow out and the resources of the Nine States to flow in, deepening contact with the various Immortal Sects and achieving a breakthrough. With me pulling the strings, you need not worry about any pressure. I have quite a network in the Nine States Land..."
Hong Jufeng glanced at Elder Mayfly beside him and thought to himself that it was true indeed.
He hesitated for a moment, then asked timidly, "Young Hero Chu, it’s not that I don’t want to. What you’re saying is all well and good, but the foundation of Town Star Island is still in the Eastern Sea. We still have to live at the behest of others..."
"I don’t need you to sever ties with Penglai. Having one more person to help you isn’t a conflict," Chu Liang smiled and shook his head. "I understand your situation, having to recognize Penglai as your overseer in the Eastern Sea, so you can think of me as... an endearing Uncle Wang from next door?"
"Hmm..." The metaphor made Hong Jufeng fall into contemplation.
"But you must understand who is actually your kin," Chu Liang continued. "I will be funding and assisting the development of Town Star Island. I want at least sixty percent of future profits and a veto over all decisions in return. Although I won’t interfere in your sect’s affairs on a daily basis, when it matters, our interests must align. Continue to act as your Sect Leader, whilst I’ll be the Head Master. Understand?"
Hong Jufeng stared blankly at Chu Liang, his gaze slightly unfocused, clearly overwhelmed by these concepts.
Though Chu Liang’s methods had become more skilled after his last negotiation with Huan Leisheng, it was different with Town Star Island since they were a legitimate candidate for the Ten Earth Sects, and having reservations was only natural.
