Chapter 673: Chapter 33 Let Me Do It [Two in One]_2

"We are Deacon Disciples of the Shu Mountain Sect, we want to see the general who guards the city." Chu Liang stated outright.

The soldier scrutinized them, "Disciples of Shu Mountain? You want to..."

"This is for you." Chu Liang tossed a bag of silver coins, then threw out another, "This is for him."

The soldier’s face changed as he was pelted by the two bags of silver coins. Immediately breaking into a sycophantic smile, he said, "Alright, I will pass along the message immediately. Young Heroes, please, come in—"

With that, he rushed throughout the city’s walls shouting, something about ’three male guests...’

Shortly afterwards, they met the soldier in charge of guarding the city gates. Although he was referred to as a general, in reality, he was just a squad leader. If he was an insignificant lower-ranking officer, mentioning Chu Liang’s identity as His Highness the Royal Younger Brother might have been useful.

But to these lowest-ranking grunts, revealing a high-ranked identity might only confuse them. Even if they understood, they might think you were deceiving them.

To save time, Chu Liang used the fastest method to gain passage.

A thud.

Another sack of coins slapped onto the table, "I want to know if there have been any unusual people who entered the city today." He bluntly asked, "Any sizable groups?"

"What are you talking about?" The squad leader asked, furrowing his brows, "As long as I’m on guard here, not a single suspicious character would dare..."

A thud.

Another sack.

"Let me tell you, Nine Palaces City might become the new target for the disciples of Mang Mountain. We have received this intel and are here to investigate." Chu Liang continued, "People from the Regent Residence might arrive later. If you keep hiding information, we won’t be able to save you."

"Ah..." The squad leader’s face drastically changed.

A thud.

Another sack.

"Now, I’m asking with money. What the Regent Residence will use to mak you talk, I have no idea." Chu Liang concluded, "If the disciples of Mang Mountain really besiege the city, I don’t know if they will spare you out of gratitude for you letting them into the city."

"There’s nothing!" The overwhelmed squad leader, his face reddening with agitation, got to his feet and responded, "The only ones unchecked when let into the city today were... were the convoy carrying the Prime Minister Mansion’s orders. All the others were regular traders. How could there be any disciples of Mang Mountain?!"

Chu Liang’s pupils contracted, "The Prime Minister Mansion?"

"Indeed." The squad leader replied, "The only large group of carriages entering the city was theirs. They came bearing the orders of the Prime Minister Mansion, and the greetings of our superior officer. How would I dare to stop them? If anything goes wrong, it won’t be my place as a mere squad leader to take the blame."

"Location." Chu Liang did not waste any breath.

An hour ago, a convoy bearing the orders of the Prime Minister Mansion entered the city, concealed by a black cloth canopy. Relying on his many years of experience, the squad leader determined there were about two hundred people riding in the convoy.

The convoy halted at Nangong Mansion in the city. It’s said that the head of the Nangong family is a retainer of the Prime Minister. Their family is quite influential in Nine Palaces City.

Chu Liang and his companions arrived in haste and left just as hurriedly.

"Notify the Regent Residence about the situation in Nine Palaces City on your way back. No one is to escape from here," Chu Liang instructed Lin Bei as they left, then mumbled to himself, "Do they find my money so easy to take?"

...

Nangong Mansion.

The darkness of early nightfall added a layer of shabbiness to the dusty Nine Palaces City. In contrast, this mansion was extremely grand and magnificent, its splendid red lanterns hanging high, illuminating the opulent residence.

Chu Liang and Ling Ao stopped outside of the city wall. They turned to Lin Bei and said, "You stay outside, we’ll go in an take a look."

"Alright." Lin Bei slapped his chest, "I’m good at the lookout job, you guys just be careful."

Having worked with Chu Liang numerous times before, he was now quite experienced in the roles of watching from afar and providing backup.

Once Chu Liang had passed on the instructions, he and Ling Ao leaped into the courtyard.

Chu Liang could have turned into wind for a quicker and more secretive approach, but Ling Ao might not have been able to keep up. It didn’t seem fair to ask for someone’s help, but not give them a chance to contribute, so Chu Liang made a slight concession.

After all, Ling Ao was a Body Cultivator of the Sixth Realm. He was extremely fast and there wasn’t much difference between their speeds.

With two whooshing sounds, they were already inside the Nangong Mansion.

"There’s a formation here, be careful." Chu Liang warned.

Ling Ao had noticed something amiss. With a twist in mid-air, he just leaped over an open area.

The two skillfully avoided all probes and found themselves in the courtyard, where dozens of black carriages were parked. Underneath the black cloth, there were hidden breaths which seemed human.

"But why does the breath seem so weak?" Chu Liang wondered. "It doesn’t seem like a cultivator’s, let alone someone who could siege the city."

In doubt, he approached one of the carriages and gently lifted the black cloth for a peek.

Under the cloth, there were several malnourished women bound in the carriage, looking exceedingly weak.

A woman screamed in shock at the sudden removal of the black cloth, "Ah!"

Her scream immediately drew the attention of the guards.

"Who is it?" A group of men clothed in black rushed into the courtyard from outside the wall.

Just as Chu Liang was beginning to take action, Ling Ao stopped him: "Leave it to me!"

In the blink of an eye, he rushed out and barraged the men with punches and kicks.

A series of thuds...

In a matter of seconds, the group was sent flying by his powerful blows. Whoever was unlucky enough to be in his path ended up with broken bones and torn muscles, their screams of agony echoing around.

He was obviously holding back. With his current physical strength, killing those men would’ve been as easy as the snap of his fingers.
