Chapter 542: Chapter 15 Conflict [Request for Monthly Votes!]_1

In the quiet room of the Prime Minister Mansion, the air was still hazed with incense.

A black-clad, masked man stood, bowing. "I have fulfilled Prime Minister’s orders," he began. "I have retrieved the jade pendant."

As he spoke, he placed the Shen Character Jade Pendant on the table.

"I received some minor injuries last night, which delayed my return slightly as I had to find a place to treat them. I hope you can forgive me, Prime Minister."

Su Qian still donned the dress of a middle-aged scholar, gentle features rendered effeminate, yet there was an undercurrent of restrained, weighty authority in his facial expression.

"You have done well, why would I blame you?" Su Qian’s voice was laced with a smile, "Shen Qing Yan’s divine skills have actually hurt you? It seems her cultivation is outstanding."

The man in the black robe paused.

From the tone of Su Qian, it seemed as if he was rather pleased that I was hurt?

So, he thinks like this - if Shen Qingyan had killed me, would he have been ecstatic and praised that girl for her strength?

As much as he thought about it, he did not dare to voice his opinions out loud. All he could do was agree obediently, "Yes, disregarding her musician identity, Shen Qing Yan’s cultivation is indeed top-notch in the Nine Heavens and Ten Lands."

"Hehe." Su Qian laughed softly, shaking his head. He added, "You’ve earned a reward for your merits this time. The Night Travel Armor you wanted to create, despite its high cost is now at your disposal. I will collect the materials for you and ask the Sword Casting Sect to forge it. You can now set your mind at ease."

"Thank you, Prime Minister." The man in the black robe quickly expressed his gratitude.

"I know you must be upset that your Mirage Sect was not invited to the Immortal Sect event this time. I understand that I’ve lost some respect in your eyes because of this," Su Qian continued, "You have made so much effort."

"I dare not." The figure in the black robe immediately replied: "The Mirage Sect owes all its current prosperity to Prime Minister’s favor. We wouldn’t dare to defy his commands."

Unlike the Sects like the Sword Casting Sect and the Earthfire Door which sprang from nothing to something under Su Qian’s support, the Mirage Sect had always had quite an old history, being passed down over a course of thousands of years.

But such sects were always in between righteousness and evil due to their sneaky operation methods. A few hundred years ago the Sect Leader, possessed with evil intentions lead the Mirage Sect astray. It turned to crime with stealing and assassinations, which bore prosperous fruits for a moment.

However, a few decades later, the Mirage Sect, which had gained too much notoriety was eradicated by the Imperial Court, leaving only a few survivors and nearly cutting off their lineage.

Just then, Su Qian found the remnants of the Mirage Sect, providing them with resources and support, allowing them to expand in numbers and accumulate power. After many years of development, they finally became powerful once again.

Even though what they do is still illegal, having a backer makes it a different story.

"It’s best if you think this way," Su Qian said leisurely. "Even though the Immortal Sect event would let you become famous, it doesn’t suit you. Mirage Sect should grow and expand in the dark. If everyone knew about your methods then you would lose your strongest weapon. And I, who need you, also hope that people don’t know too much about you."

"I understand." The man in the black robe replied, "The Mirage Sect will follow your commands."

"Alright, go back and keep an eye on Shen Qing Yan. Report any abnormalities to me immediately," Su Qian continued, "However, she would probably take more precautions this time around. You should also be more careful."

"I will obey." The black-clad man retreated at once.

He had left for quite some time before Su Qian reached out to lightly pick up the jade pendant on the table.

In his palm, the jade pendant suddenly lit up, emitting a faint, blinking light. Under the dim and shadowy silence of the room, it was particularly eye-catching.

A soft smashing sound echoed.

Su Qian closed his fist, and the whole jade pendant was instantly turned to dust.

Then he revealed a relieved expression.

...

"Brother Chu!"

From a distance, a voice called out. Several familiar figures approached, all with a smile on their faces.

"Brother Yun?" Chu Liang turned back, and it was the guys from the Heavenly Gang Sect, with Yun Chaoxian leading. Behind him were the silent Ren Hongdao, the serious Li Fujian and the silly Tang Shi.

At the very end was Zhang Juque, the leader of the Heavenly Gang Sect this time. He was standing at the back, keeping an eye on them. No wonder Li Fujian was so nervous.

"Hehe, long time no see," Yun Chaoxian laughed.

"Why are you guys so late?" Chu Liang greeted each, then asked.

In the past two days, disciples from all over the Nine Heaven Ten Lands have come to Emperor Qiu’s place. The Heavenly Gang Sect was one of the last groups to arrive.

"We were in seclusion cultivating for the Immortal Sect event..." Yun Chaoxian was about to explain when Tang Shi interjected, "We got the time wrong."

"Haha." Chu Liang laughed. The girl is indeed honest, but something did not make sense, "But there are so many of you..."

"We all got the time wrong," Yun Chaoxian replied.

Goodness me.

As expected of the disciples of the Heavenly Gang Sect, all using the same brain.

"And, I was the one who remembered the time most accurately." Yun Chaoxian added proudly.

"Truly, Brother Yun is both brave and smart," Chu Liang had to compliment.

Looking at the Heavenly Gang Sect’s team again, there is a significant difference in character between then and now, most notably the consolidation of their vitality, appearing much more stable. The vitality of Martial Arts Cultivators is generally very much external, but this time they were much more introverted.

It seems that they too, have endured rigorous training.

While Chu Liang was conversing with the others from the Heavenly Gang Sect, there was a small disturbance behind him.

The grand selection from all over the Nine Heavens and Ten Lands was nearing its end, and it was almost time for the opening ceremony. Disciples from all the lands gathered here, creating a dazzling display.

The names that they could only have heard through household reports and rumors were now right in front of their eyes, causing the crowd’s attention to shift from the tournament ring to the crowd below.

At this moment, a child suddenly surged out in front of Jiang Yuebai.

The child seemed to be around eleven or twelve years old, short for their age, which highlighted their youth. However, their face held a mischievous air that didn’t match their age.

"You must be Jiang Yuebai of Shu Mountain. You’re quite pretty," the child said directly. "Marry me and become my wife."

The surrounding crowd immediately glanced over. This statement was probably something everyone thought of, but few dared to say it out loud to Jiang Yuebai.

However, seeing it was a child who spoke, many folks laughed at it as a joke.

"Who’s child is this? Don’t their parents keep an eye on them?" Some of Jiang Yuebai’s fans grumbled in indignation.

"Hold on, this child seems to be from Penglai..." Someone in the crowd recognized the child. "It’s Qi Lin’er!"

Jiang Yuebai could sense that this child’s cultivation was not weak, but as he was only a child, she didn’t feel like arguing with him. She merely furrowed her brows and turned away to ignore him.

Yet, Qi Lin’er continued pestering her. He jumped in front of Jiang Yuebai again and said earnestly, "Xi Miaoxian got here first, so she’ll be my first wife. You came late, so you’ll be my second wife. I promise to treat both of you well, hehe. Come with me."

Seeing that Jiang Yuebai was still indifferent, he threw his hands up in frustration, "What good prospects do you have in this dump known as Shu Mountain? If you marry me, you can ascend Mirage Mountain. I suggest you stop being unreasonable."

At this moment, Chu Liang had already made sense of what was happening. He stepped forward, intending to take this childish kid away for Jiang Yuebai.

However, Jiang Yuebai grabbed his wrist and whispered, "Let me handle this."

With that, she took a step forward, her figure appearing briskly in front of Qi Lin’er, extending one finger out.

Thump.

Her finger was pointed on Qi Lin’er’s forehead.

At the moment she moved, Qi Lin’er’s face bore a faint smirk, seemingly dismissing it with indifference.

However, a muffled sound followed immediately, and his entire body was sent flying, flipping mid-air before tumbling back onto the ground. When he stood up, his face was covered with dust.

"How dare you hit me?" He stared wide-eyed in disbelief.

Rather than him believing Jiang Yuebai dared to hit him, he was shocked that Jiang Yuebai could actually land a hit on him.

He was naturally born with an iron body, and from a young age, his cultivation was extraordinary, and he had never lost a fight before. Given his age, he could actually wait another twelve years to participate in the Immortal Sects Conference, and there would be absolutely no competition for him.

But he believed that there would be no one to compete against him in this year’s conference, so he adamantly attended.

To his surprise, before the conference even began, he suffered a loss under a woman’s hand.

For a moment, he was slightly stunned.

Actually, Jiang Yuebai was surprised as well. She knew the child’s cultivation was formidable, hence she had initially only exerted seventy percent of her strength. But seeing that he was nearly unaffected, she increased her strength and finally managed to get him off his feet.

The fact that Penglai could send a child to participate in the Immortal Sects Conference was indeed extraordinary.

But at this moment, having gained the upper hand on the field was all that mattered.

She slightly flicked her sleeve and said in a cold voice, "I, as the Chief of Shu Mountain, forgive your disrespect due to your young age. But publicly insulting my sect, if I don’t give a small punishment it wouldn’t be justified."

Wearing white robes that fluttered in the wind, she stood proudly.

"You..." Qi Lin’er, dirty and disheveled, was about to burst into anger, but someone suddenly grabbed his neck, suppressing his anger back into his chest.

It was the delegation from Penglai breaking through the crowd, the man in the lead had a face as cold as jade and eyes that sparkled, giving off an otherworldly, ethereal air. It was Yang Shenlong, the Chief of Penglai.

Behind him followed his younger brother Yang Yuhu and Xi Miaoxian, trailed by a group of Five Mountain Slaves with different appearances. This group walked over with an aura of "no intruders allowed", causing both the cultivators and ordinary people around to unconsciously give way.

Yang Shenlong grabbed Qi Lin’er by the back of his neck, instantly suppressing him with pressure, leaving him speechless.

"The child’s insolence is due to our lax discipline in Penglai, I hope the Chief of Shu Mountain will forgive us." Yang Shenlong began, pausing before continuing, "Any conflict can be settled in the Hundred Sects Competition, is that acceptable?"

The surrounding crowd gasped, and the atmosphere became tense.

The first half of Yang Shenlong’s words seemed to be an apology to Shu Mountain, but the latter half appeared to be a declaration of war. Though his tone was polite, the provocation was intense.

In fact, the first sentence was said to Jiang Yuebai, whilst the second was meant for Qi Lin’er under his control. As a chief, he understood that protecting his sect members too much would be unreasonable, but too much suppression would also damage his authority.

Making such a decision in an instant was already perfect.

As expected, after his statement, the agitated Qi Lin’er immediately behaved. That’s right, just wait until the Hundred Sects Competition to settle scores, then it would be worth it to get revenge.

Facing the provocation of the strongest Immortal Sect, the pressure naturally fell on Jiang Yuebai. If she softened her stance at this moment, Shu Mountain’s prestige would undoubtedly be lost. Yet, if she confronted them head-on, once they entered the Hundred Sects’ competition, would Shu Mountain be able to withstand Penglai’s aggression?

Chu Liang, Xu Ziyang, Ling Ao, and even Wang XuanLing gathered around Jiang Yuebai, but at this moment, none of them intervened. That’s because they knew it was the Chief’s responsibility.

Facing the overwhelming pressure, Jiang Yuebai’s expressions did not change. She simply replied casually, "We’ll see."
