Chapter 528: Chapter 1: Temporary Palace 【Seeking Monthly Tickets!】_2
If only he had known earlier that it would have been better to lend the Detoxifying Whip to someone else during that rescue mission, he wouldn’t have needed to get involved. Now that he did, not only has the event been on the lips of everyone in Yu Capital City forever, but various exaggerated versions of the story had also been circulated.
How regretful.
When others are mentioned, they are deemed the Divine Dragon Penglai or the Shu Mountain Immortal. But when he’s mentioned, he’s none other but the Hero with the Divine Whip...
What would first-time listeners think of such a name?
He intended to clarify things, but could only mutter phrases like "It’s not that kind of whip," or "These are all rumors." Yet, hearing his words only served to amuse the people even more, filling the carriage with laughter and light-heartedness.
For the group from the Shu Mountain, the atmosphere wasn’t normally so relaxed.
In the past two months, they had gone through a harsh special training regime in Master Wen Yuan’s Hongmeng Secret Realm. Now, everyone seemed different. They appeared more composed and mature, with a trace of fatigue.
Although tomorrow marked the commencement of the Immortal Sect Tournament, they were in no hurry and could rest for a bit.
The Immortal Sect Tournament consisted of three parts: the Four Seas Selection, the Hundred Sects Battle, and the Imperial City War.
The Four Seas Selection involved a ring competition amongst the hundreds of powers from the Four Seas and Nine Continents, to select the top eighty-one teams for the next stage.
The Nine Heavens and Ten Lands were seen as seeded players and therefore didn’t need to participate in the Four Seas Selection. Even the Imperial Family and the teams from the Regent Residence had to go through this selection phase. This demonstrates the honor reserved for the Nine Heavens and Ten Lands.
The subsequent Hundred Sects Battle allowed no privileges; all power sects would compete fairly. The top ten teams would then proceed to the final Imperial City War.
The Shu Mountain Sect... had fallen short at the second stage for four consecutive years.
Repeatedly missing out on the Imperial City War, even the disciples from the other Nine Heavens Immortal Sects jokingly nicknamed them the "Imperial City Guard," - the gatekeeper of the Imperial City. This title didn’t sit well with the disciples of the Shu Mountain Sect.
After all, the gatekeeper stands within the gates...
Although they didn’t need to participate in the first round, Chu Liang and his team arrived at Yu Capital City a day early, hoping to familiarize themselves with the environment, while also observing potential future opponents. There tended to be wildcard teams that emerged from the selections and exhibited strong performances, so they absolutely couldn’t take any chances.
Upon reaching the gates of Yu Capital City, there were pre-arranged escorts who took them to settle in Emperor Qiu.
...
Emperor Qiu.
This area was where the founding emperor of the Yu Dynasty discovered the Pan Yang Ancient Jade, an augury of prosperous times. Although it’s just a small hillock outside Yu Capital City, it holds significant importance.
The grand temple of the Yu Dynasty was built on top of Emperor Qiu Mountain. Every spring, along with princes and senior officials, the Emperor would hold a ceremony. Any major events like wars or natural disasters would also require a ceremony at the grand temple.
On the middle of the hill, there was an imperial palace for the Emperors and bureaucrats to stay overnight.
The Hundred Sects Battle of the Immortal Sect Tournament was held in Emperor Qiu.
Of course, the Emperor wouldn’t allow cultivators to fight near his ancestral grand temple. During the tournament, the cultivators would compete in a secret realm and spectators could watch from the foot of Emperor Qiu Mountain. The grand temple on top of the hill would remain undisturbed.
The location was chosen because accommodating so many cultivators in the city would be inconvenient, and holding the tournament here would highlight the Imperial Court’s emphasis on the Immortal Sect Tournament.
The special privilege of the Nine Heavens and Ten Lands was to be accommodated in the residences halfway up Emperor Qiu, giving them a more relaxed preparation time.
When the carriage arrived at the foot of Emperor Qiu Hill, it took a straight road uphill. It didn’t take long to reach the residence, as the hill wasn’t that high.
As everyone exited the carriage, a young palace attendant was already leading a group to welcome them.
Before he could greet them, the cart driver came over first, his face wearing an embarrassed smile as he whispered to Chu Liang, "Warrior Chu, I didn’t dare ask earlier, but is your divine whip... really that effective?"
Facing his sincere and eager smile, Chu Liang could only reply truthfully, "Brother, for something like this, you should consult a doctor."
Disappointed, the carriage driver walked away, and the group followed the palace attendant to continue their journey.
The housing along the main road was simple and a bit shabby. After all, this was where the officials stayed when they worshipped at the Grand Temple; it had to be modest and couldn’t be too luxurious.
The welcoming procession was standing by the roadside.
"I’m palace attendant Lao Fangrong, and I’m in charge of the affairs here at the palace residence. I’ll be directing Immortal Master Wang and four young heroes to their accommodations today, please follow me," the young palace attendant greeted.
Chu Liang was puzzled by the attendant’s youthful appearance and rich clothing that indicated a high-ranking position, but the moment he heard his name, he realized.
This must be the foster son of Lao Lishi.
"Thank you for your help," Wang Xuanling nodded in acknowledgment, showing respect.
As the Shinling of Shu Mountain Peaks, his majestic presence faced outsiders. With his hands behind his back and his eyebrows tightly knitted, he had an aura of an Immortal Master.
The palace attendant led the group forward, passing the humble houses on both sides. As they passed a rare courtyard with fences and a pavilion, a shout suddenly came from within, "Jiang... Warrior Chu, you from Shu Mountain have also arrived?"
Everyone turned to look, seeing several robust young men standing in the courtyard. Among them, a familiar face - Feng Chaoyang from the Heavenly King Sect.
Days absent, Feng Chaoyang was looking bright-eyed, evidently having just completed rigorous training.
As for the three young men next to him, Chu Liang didn’t recognize them. But that was irrelevant, as Feng Chaoyang’s team for this generation was renowned for including him and his three accessories.
At first glance, Feng Chaoyang seemed to see Jiang Yuebai... which was quite normal, as Jiang Yuebai was always the first one to be noticed in a crowd. But when he was about to call out to him, he spotted Chu Liang next to Jiang Yuebai and changed what he was about to say.
"Brother Feng’s energy is flourishing, it seems your cultivation has greatly progressed," Chu Liang responded with a smile.
"Hehe, I don’t know if I can beat you guys in the big competition, but when choosing accommodation, you guys definitely lose," Feng Chaoyang laughed, "This is the only place with a courtyard, and we claimed it first."
"You have indeed grabbed the best spot," Chu Liang responded with a laugh.
Looking around, the houses in this area were indeed simple, not much better than his cabin in Shu Mountain. The only tower with a small yard was indeed the one Feng Chaoyang’s group occupied.
"This place is indeed more modest, but it’s not because the imperial court doesn’t value you. It’s just that the Grand Temple is here so the officials dare not live in luxury," the palace attendant explained to everyone, "This courtyard was actually the residence of the Prison King, so the standards are slightly higher."
"A cultivator does not focus on external items, these things truly do not matter," said Wang Xuanling, who had been both participant and leader at this event several times, and was not surprised by the simplicity of the place. He pointed and said, "Then we’ll settle next to the Heavenly King Sect."
Shu Mountain and the Heavenly King Sect were on good terms, so since they were already here and had greeted each other, he decided to be neighbors.
To his surprise, the palace attendant responded, "Master Wang, it’s not that I’m trying to stop you. But the Shu Mountain Sect’s accommodation has already been arranged elsewhere, not here."
"Huh?" Wang Xuanling looked at him and asked, "Where, then?"
Lao Fangrong gently raised his hand, pointing to a place towards the end of the road at the mid-mountain, and respectfully said, "Over there."
Everyone looked over, their faces all showing surprise.
Nothing else mattered because that place was distinctly out of place here with its green tiles, white walls, pavilions and towers. It was clearly a grand palace residence.
