Chapter 389: Chapter 73: What Is This? [Seeking Monthly Tickets!]_1

"Shitshitshit...glug glug....shit... Glug glug...."

Lin Bei’s cursing and the bubble sounds got drowned out in the midst of the overwhelming waves.

It was as if a monumental force betwixt heaven and earth was at play.

Only the vast blue waves could bear such a spectacular sight—a "Water prison" that encapsulates a significant portion of the sea getting swallowed in one gulp by a fearsome Swallowing Python.

In the context of the entire Southern Sea, this incident may seem like a minor scene. However, were it to happen on the Nine States Continent, the affected area would be large enough to rival a top-tier city. This means that without any constraints, the Swallowing Python could swallow cities like Northern Glutton City or Yu Capital City in the Central State at once.

Once the water prison entered the beast’s mouth, the surrounding wave walls also shattered, whether due to the caster releasing the Divine Skill or unable to bear the colossal force. Nevertheless, Chu Liang and the others could no longer escape. A powerful suction force, enough to move mountains and rivers, emanated from the depths of the black hole, sweeping all the infinite seawater and everything within it.

Swallowing heaven and earth!

At first, Chu Liang managed to maintain his balance on the water’s surface, trying his best to observe the surroundings. All he could see was pitch darkness and horrified sea creatures amidst the waves. Soon after, a huge wave swept him under the water. After several unsuccessful attempts to resurface, he gave up and let the water currents carry him forward.

It seemed the black hole was getting narrower. The pressure from the water flow increased, and the deafening noise of thundering waves filled his ears. His body felt like a lone leaf in the familiar stream.

Just as Chu Liang started to believe in his substantial cultivation level, making him a master in the Immortal Cultivation World, this ordeal immediately put his insignificance into perspective.

In front of these mighty beings, even a cluster of mere fire could kill him, an innocent pond fish.

He faintly heard the roar of an enraged dragon. Was it the Fire Dragon of the Southern Sea?

The Swallowing Python swallowed it along with the entire water prison. This newly awakened Fire Dragon of the Southern Sea wouldn’t let this go. Typically, these two beings are considered formidable beasts in the Mortal Realm, but the Swallowing Python’s mystical power lies in its ability to devour everything. If the Fire Dragon manifested its powers, it could potentially fight against it.

Yet, the dragon’s roar didn’t last long. The swooshing sound of the current prevented Chu Liang from hearing it clearly. He could only muster up his True Qi to shield his body against sharp objects swept along in the flash flood.

Simultaneously, he spread his Divine Sense to locate Lin Bei. They were separated when swept into the water. It was no easy task to find someone amidst the chaos.

Boom——

His Divine Sense, although it didn’t detect Lin Bei, found a large Shark with a sword-like fin charging toward him, taking advantage of the flow!

With this single gulp, the Swallowing Python would likely wreak havoc on countless aquatic Demon Beasts.

If Chu Liang didn’t react, he might well get swallowed by this massive shark. He was already headed towards the stomach of the Swallowing Python, he couldn’t allow this beast to play a Russian Doll trick on him!

Chu Liang dared not to use his Dustless Sword, afraid of losing it in the turbulent waters. He forcefully invoked his Qi to shake his body slightly and roll aside.

The enormous shark swiftly crossed beneath him. Now, Chu Liang was now behind the shark.

And it was his turn to charge at the shark with the might of the current.

Chu Liang thrust his Qi Sea, cast a punch at the sword-like dorsal fin of the shark. Although impaired by the water, the punch carried the force of a thunderbolt.

Thud——

The enormous shark expelled a dull sound, exploding into a cloud of ink-black blood in the water!

The murky blood quickly spread, agitating the surrounding aquatic Demon Beasts. But most were helpless, struggling for their own survival amidst the torrential waters.

However, one Demon Beast managed to swim closer to Chu Liang, a massive red-scaled, snake-like creature with four legs. Likely an offspring of the Fire Dragon, its vertical eyes flashed with a fiery blaze.

The red-scaled beast’s size was impressive. However, to Chu Liang, who had just encountered the Swallowing Python, it didn’t feel all that big.

As the long tail of the red-scaled beast swung towards him, Chu Liang grabbed onto it. Before he could attack, there was a sudden change—

The torrential water broke out of the waterway and opened up widely!

Boom——

The infinite seawater seemed to have been thrown into the sky, including Chu Liang and the red-scaled beast that he grabbed. In the rush, Chu Liang only managed to kick the beast and propel himself upwards.

But what came next was a severe blow.

The cascading seawater above crashed onto him like the end of the world, smashing Chu Liang downward. His head was buzzing!

Boom boom boom——

As if plunging into an abyss, it seemed like being thousands of feet high up in the sky.

Bang——

A deafening explosion was succeeded by silence.

...

"Puh."

Chu Liang opened his eyes after recovering from brief dizziness.

He furrowed his brows, remained still, and relied on his Divine Sense to observe his surroundings first.

Where was this...?

On a reef in a lake, his whole body was soaked in water. Every now and then, the waves submerged him as he lay on a black rock.

Suddenly, a large net was thrown over him.

Someone was pulling him forcefully.

Was she a girl in grey on the shore?

She wore a robe sewn from patches of cloth, with her hair simply tied up, appearing to be around sixteen or seventeen years of age with delicate features. A small bamboo basket on her back, she was trying to haul Chu Liang towards the shore with a large net.

"Heave ho...heave ho...heave ho..."

The girl was panting hard, trying to motivate herself, but she couldn’t budge Chu Liang—it felt as if she had snagged a huge rock.

The strength of True Qi pertains to the Qi Sea and may not manifest externally. However, the strength of the physical body belongs to the essence and blood. Given the level of enhancement Chu Liang’s body had gone through, how could it still be the same as before?

Although he still looked like a thin and delicate youth, his frame was as if forged from diamond, with a weight no less formidable than that of the average demon beast.

"Heave ho...heave ho..." The girl was still struggling on the shore, using all her strength to pull the net.

As she pulled, she realized something was amiss. Why had the weight decreased significantly?

As she looked up, she saw him standing in front of her, her fishing net contained nothing more than nearly dead fish and shrimps.

"Are you awake?" The girl asked unexpectedly.

"Umm..." Chu Liang responded, feeling somewhat dazed at the sight of a living person in front of him.

He then surveyed the surroundings. All around the lake were bare black rocks, the likes of which he had never seen before and was unsure of their material. In the distance, there seemed to be the silhouette of a city, also a dusky black.

There was no sun in the sky, only a violet halo hanging high, making everything seem a bit eerie.

"Excuse me, miss, where are we?" Chu Liang finally asked after a pause.

"This place is called Python Belly City," the girl answered cheerfully. "Since you just came from the outside and are unfamiliar with the situation, you can come with me. I will tell you more about it on the way."

Chu Liang forced a bitter smile, thinking, ’Did that really need explaining?’

The answer was right in front of his eyes.

Python Belly City?

What a straightforward name.

The Swallowing Python was said to be able to devour the heavens and earth and swallow billions of lives in one gulp. Though it was a slight exaggeration, it certainly wasn’t an empty boast. A creature large enough to have a city built inside its belly was a first for Chu Liang.

Since he was unharmed, Lin Bei was likely fine too. However, where he had landed was uncertain.

Chu Liang decided to go with the girl for now and make further plans once settled.

"Then I would appreciate your guidance," he said.

"No trouble at all," The girl replied with a soft giggle. "Everyone is always happy when the white rain falls. Besides bringing new food and tools, most importantly, it brings newcomers like you... oh no, I mean, new people."

Chu Liang just smiled. If they saw him as labor, so be it.

"My name is Xu Zhiyin, I grew up here in Python Belly City. I’ve never been outside, so I like hearing stories about the outside world," the girl continued. "I always come out after the white rain to look for survivors."

"Miss Xu, you’ve mentioned ’white rain’ twice now," Chu Liang asked curiously. "What is it?"

Xu Zhiyin explained: "There are two types of rain in Python Belly City, black rain and white rain..."

After some explanation, Chu Liang finally understood the general situation of Python Belly City.

They were standing on a vast piece of land, with a city of nearly one hundred thousand people in the middle. The city was surrounded by a pure black expanse known as the Mysterious Sea.

The water droplets from the Mysterious Sea were extremely toxic. Touching even a bit would cause the entire body to corrode and turn into blood. No one knew what lay at the end of the Mysterious Sea.

The Mysterious Sea had unpredictable and massive tides, during which toxic waves would flood more than half of the city’s land. Only the area within Python Belly City was safe from these tides. Therefore, it was somewhat safe inside the city, but almost nothing could survive outside it.

The only thing strong enough to withstand the corrosion of the Mysterious Sea was the black rock on which they were standing.

But even within Python Belly City, danger existed. Occasionally, the sky would rain black water, the droplets of which were as potent as the sea’s waters, capable of annihilating a demon beast.

Fatalities were inevitable for those not under shelter during a black rain.

White rain, on the other hand, referred to each new influx of seawater from the outside world, bringing with it fresh beings and objects.

So for people in Python Belly City, black rain symbolized destruction, while white rain meant life.

Chu Liang listened with astonishment.

It seemed that an entirely unique ecosystem had indeed been established here.

He then asked bemusedly, "So where does the food here come from?"

The black rocks beneath their feet were as hard as meteoric iron, making crop cultivation impossible, and there was no sun. Relying solely on the food and seafood washed in from the outside could hardly sustain a population of over one hundred thousand.

"The main food source is Black Rice Tree, several large fields of which lie outside the city. They’ve always been a contentious establishment among the competing factions," Xu Zhiyin explained. "The rest comes from livestock and the fish and shrimp raised in the lakes. This last white rain was quite heavy, so we should see several new large lakes."

Upon looking around, Chu Liang realized that these so-called lakes were simply pockets on the surface of the black rocks. When filled with seawater, they became lakes.

"But wouldn’t these things, being outside the city, be swallowed up by the tide of Mysterious Sea?" Chu Liang asked.

"No, the Black Rice Trees can only grow if nourished by the waters of the Mysterious Sea. And the black rain doesn’t dissolve in water, so if one encounters black rain or a tide outside the city, the best escape is to dive into the water... if one isn’t afraid of drowning, that is," Xu Zhiyin replied.

"It doesn’t sound too dangerous..." Chu Liang murmured thoughtfully.

"And then there are the demon beasts to watch out for." The girl continued, "The demon beasts and the human clans have treaties with each other, and the beasts won’t hunt for food in the cities. But outside the city, desperate and hungry beasts often hunt... those that don’t like Black Rice Tree, only meat..."

"There are demon beasts?" Chu Liang was instantly alert. He reopened his Divine Sense, which he had just withdrawn, to stay vigilant of his surroundings.

"You don’t have to be afraid," the girl said calmly. "The territory of the demon beasts is to the west of the city, so they rarely come to the east."

"Really?" Chu Liang pointed to a large figure behind them, asking, "Then what is that?"

In the direction he was pointing, a beast resembling a deer but with large tusks and thick limbs had just locked them in its sight.

The girl looked in that direction and her pupils instantly contracted. In response to Chu Liang, she only screamed, "Ah! Help!"
