Chapter 317: Chapter 1 Redundant 【Request for Monthly Tickets!】_1
Shaonan Town.
Ripples of water on the river follow the breeze, carrying the fragrance of osmanthus flowers.
A small boat in the distance is slowly approaching the shore. A young man dressed in long robes, with a jade-like face, stands in the boat, lightly playing a flute.
The melodious flute music touches the heart.
Under the nearby osmanthus trees, a gentle and shy girl in a peach-pink dress is looking down, bashful upon meeting the young man’s gaze directed at her. But soon, she musters the courage to glance back, afraid that he might not be approaching her.
The night sky is dazzling with stars, osmanthus flowers sway in the wind.
The young man’s boat soon approaches the shore, and he steps onto the bank. A closer look reveals his clear features, accompanied by rosy lips and white teeth.
The girl’s eyes, bright as stars, are filled with expectations and nervousness as she watches the young man approaching.
The young man’s steps do not disappoint her, as the sound of his footsteps echoes. He approaches the girl, and softly asks, "Are you here alone, miss?"
"I lost my friends on the bridge earlier," the girl murmurs in response.
"Why not accompany me for a while?" The young man politely asks.
"Hm," The girl lowers her head and lightly nods in agreement.
Seeing this, the young man smiles and reaches his hand up to pick a small osmanthus blossom from a nearby tree. The flowers on this tree have a specially strong fragrance and are as white as moonlight.
The girl lowers her head even more, her neck blushing, looking rather like a quail.
Just as the young man is about to place the flower in her hair, his gaze shifts past her, onto a more enchanting figure under the not-so-distant grove.
The figure is dressed in long jade-white attire, delicately cinched at the waist, curvaceous and full-bosomed, her black hair and outfit gently swaying with the wind, her skin appears transparent.
A beauty so breathtaking, it seems unreal.
Compared to this woman in white, the soft, lovely girl before him suddenly appears superficial and unattractive.
The young man stares, momentarily stunned. The shy girl, still wondering why he hasn’t placed the flower, grows confused.
Just then, the beautiful woman in white beckons to the young man. This gesture seems to pull his soul towards her.
"Kind miss, I just remembered some urgent business at home, and will not be able to accompany you right now. I beg your pardon, I promise to wander with you next time!"
The young man swiftly excuses himself, then hoists his trouser legs and hurries towards the beauty under the moonlight.
"Ah?" The previous girl–taken aback by his sudden change of behavior–turns to see the young man rushing towards a stunningly beautiful woman in white not far away.
"..." Her petite features crumple up, her small chest heaves. After a while, she finally spits out one phrase, "Men are dogs!"
Nevertheless, she could not deny the allure of the beautiful woman, as she catches herself stealing several glances.
The young man approaches the woman with the flower in hand, mumbling something. The beautiful woman in white gently nods.
Then she turns her head, allowing him to place the flower behind her ear.
After she turns her head, her eyes happen to meet those of the girl’s, even though they are at a good distance. The woman’s eyes are bright, and the girl clearly makes out the look in them. There are no signs of triumph in her eyes, only consolation.
As if she was telling her... Look, this is the man you were interested in.
Wait a minute!
The girl suddenly furrows her eyebrows.
The white-clad woman had turned her head in another direction just now. It should have been the back of her head facing the girl.
How had they looked into each other’s eyes?
A chill goes down the girl’s spine. Does the woman in white have two faces?!
"Ah..." Struck with fear, she wants to scream but before she could, something abnormal happens.
The young man places the flower behind the white-clad woman’s ear. She then softly asks him, "Am I beautiful?"
"The flower is beautiful, as are you. Combined, you are the epitome of beauty..." The young man replies without hesitation.
"You haven’t looked carefully. Such smooth-talking, you’re lying." The woman in white softly counters.
"Then lift your face so that I can look carefully." The young man answers with a smile.
Then, the woman in white lifts her face.
Her features are still as beautiful, but her skin has turned into a porcelain-like texture, like a shattered porcelain vase... Covered with black cracks.
"Am I beautiful?" The cracked lips part to ask, revealing a blood-filled, tongue-less mouth.
"Ah...." The young man’s eyes twitch. Instinctively, he wants to scream and escape!
But the woman in white suddenly grabbed his neck, pulling him back and whispering in his ear, "Tell me, am I beautiful?"
...
"The scenic beauty of Shaonan is really breathtaking," Chu Liang said with a smile. "Even this town is quite bustling."
"Though Shaonan is a small town, it’s adjacent to the Osmanthus River, the center of all waterway transportation, so naturally, it’s thriving and lively," Jiang Yuebai replied lightly with a smile.
The two of them walked down the bustling streets; their presence caused the noises to slightly subside wherever they passed. People would often stop and look at them in awe.
The young man in his splendid attire had a handsome face and an extraordinary aura about him. His smile was so warm and kind, that anyone who saw it felt like they were basking in spring sunlight. He had an air of amicability about him.
The girl, on the other hand, was even more ethereal, her beauty unmatched, a true celestial being.
This time, Jiang Yuebai was wearing a classy white dress. Her tall stature, walking next to Chu Liang, reflected rays of warm sunlight on the bustling streets, akin to a celestial maiden descending to the mundane world.
Walking shoulder to shoulder, they looked like a perfect couple, the epitome of ’golden boy and jade girl’. Such a fine combination was not something one could see on the streets every day.
"Huh?" Chu Liang noticed a stall selling sugar painting nearby and asked, "Senior Sister Jiang, would you like to have one... I will pay for it."
"I’m not a child," Jiang Yuebai glanced elsewhere, then back at him, "But if you want one, I’ll have one too."
"Alright," Chu Liang nodded with a smile.
He clearly saw her sneaking glances at the stall a few times before he asked her if she wanted a sugar painting. This woman...
Both of them moved towards the stall. The artist, an elderly uncle, had a grandson beside him. There were several well-crafted sugar paintings on display, of dragons, kylins, spirit plants, and immortal grass. They all looked incredibly lifelike.
The moment Jiang Yuebai approached, the grandson instantly gazed fixedly at her, a little stunned. Presumably, he had never seen such a beautiful young woman before.
"Uncle, can we have two sugar paintings?"
"Oh, what would you like to have?" the uncle asked warmly. He pointed to the list of designs, "You can have any of these."
Chu Liang scanned the list of designs, then suddenly asked, "Can I draw it myself?"
The uncle was taken aback and then chuckled, "Young master, that’s not possible. We’ve spent years mastering this craft. You trying it yourself would only be wasteful. It’s an ancestral rule - never waste sugar..."
"I’ll pay extra."
Chu Liang straightforwardly plucks out a silver coin, his financial strength immediately on display.
Of course, such an amount was not particularly significant to any cultivator.
As soon as the silver coin was placed on the table, a spoon was promptly handed over to him.
The uncle was indeed a straightforward man.
Chu Liang took the spoon, scooped up some sugar syrup, and with a slight shaking of his wrist, the syrup evenly sprinkled down, all in one go.
In an instant, the syrup cooled, and a lifelike sugar painting was done.
He held up the sugar painting, clearly revealing an image of a beautiful woman with flowing sleeves. It was so vivid one glance was enough to know it was Jiang Yuebai.
"Oh, young master, your craftsmanship surpasses mine by leaps and bounds. How miraculous!" The uncle exclaimed.
He wasn’t exaggerating. Indeed, the fine motor control and physical manipulation abilities of a Fourth Realm cultivator were far beyond that of a normal human. The skills that he had spent years mastering, seemingly came naturally to Chu Liang after taking a few glances.
"He he, it’s not bad," Jiang Yuebai smiled. After taking the sugar painting, she immediately walked away.
Chu Liang thanked the uncle and followed after.
The grandson was left behind, still in a daze. The uncle leaned in to teach him, "Did you see? If you learn sugar painting well and master this skill, you can also find a beautiful wife."
"Eh?" The grandson opened his mouth in surprise.
Shortly after, two more youths with extraordinary bearing walked past the stall.
One had sharp brows and bright eyes, stood tall and straight. His eyes were filled with brilliance, and he was dressed in a white robe, looking equally handsome and out of the world.
The other one was dressed in black. He had deep-set eyes and appeared a bit colder. He would occasionally use his hand to swat at the air in front of his left eye, though it was unclear as to why...
These two were naturally the other two of the Top Four of Shu Mountain - Xu Ziyang and Ling Ao.
Watching the backs of the two in front, Xu Ziyang asked in a deep voice, "Why do you always insist on falling a few steps behind with me?"
"Because if I were to lag behind alone, it would make me seem unsociable," Ling Ao replied in a similarly cold voice.
Xu Ziyang puzzled, "Why must we lag behind?"
"Don’t you feel it?" Ling Ao looked at Xu Ziyang, "Walking with them, there’s always this odd feeling."
"What kind of feeling?" Xu Ziyang asked back.
Ling Ao coldly uttered two words: "Superfluous."
