Chapter 212: Chapter 6 Emergency Task [Seeking monthly ticket!]_1
Pagoda Peak.
This was a place where Chu Liang regularly met with Senior Sister Jiang in secret, so he was naturally somewhat familiar with it. Apart from the Water Curtain Cave, there were many other places on the mountain.
The most conspicuous was a pit which was said to be the former site of the Demon Suppression Tower. After the loss of the pagoda, all that was left here was a huge pit, which over time became a valley. It is believed that most of the disciples of Shu Mountain would have come here to pay a visit to these ruins.
The scenery seen from within this valley was almost identical to that surrounding the second clue.
Chu Liang landed and looked around for the location, spreading out his divine sense slowly.
Finally, he found the approximate accurate location in the middle of the dense forest. There was a giant stone, which seemed to need to be pushed to get through.
Chu Liang pushed against the giant stone with both arms, easily moving it. This stone was not light. For a cultivator of the Third Realm, it might prove somewhat challenging. But for Chu Liang, it was easy due to his increased physical strength, even without resorting to using his cultivation power.
With a rumbling sound, the giant stone moved aside.
As expected, there was a dark entrance inside. The surrounding soil was soft and black, which indicated that it had been freshly excavated, probably for the Mountain God Sacrifice.
Just as he was about to enter, he heard a "yawning" call from a distance, and a flash of silver lightning rushed over as if it wanted to hit him.
Swoosh——
The supposed lightning stopped short just before it hit Chu Liang. Recognizing his face, it came to a sudden halt, leaving two deep tracks on the ground.
"Why is it you?"
Chu Liang picked up the Baize cub that bumped into him and curiously asked.
"Yawning!" The Baize cub looked up and called out, looking proud.
Chu Liang looked at it and laughed, "Did the seniors arrange for you to guard the third clue? Isn’t this too bad?"
This was indeed a big problem.
Whenever anyone would move the giant stone, this Baize cub would appear to obstruct the path. Who amongst the common disciples of the Third and Fourth Realms could overcome this Shu Mountain divine beast? Even if many people together managed to tackle it, who would dare to seriously hurt it?
Or perhaps that was the intention of the one who posed this problem...
They didn’t want a single team to obtain the next clue. By positioning the cub here, which could only be driven away by the combined efforts of many, they strove for several teams to collaborate to get the third clue.
Luckily for Chu Liang, there was no difficulty at this stage.
He pointed gently towards the entrance of the cave, saying, "Lead the way ahead!"
The Baize cub immediately let out a "yawning" sound and bounded ahead happily, showing an utterly undisturbed readiness to switch sides.
With it leading the way, the journey deep into the cave became extremely smooth. It was able to comfortably pace through the sporadic traps and formations, which crackled and snapped on its robust skin.
The upper echelon of Shu Mountain probably did not expect the cub, their second challenge, to promptly obliterate their third one.
Upon reaching the deepest part of the cave, there was a wall made of jade.
Carved on the wall was a picture of a crescent moon hanging in the sky with a transparent white cup in the middle of the lunar disc.
A white jade glazed cup.
What did this picture mean?
Was it indicating the white jade glazed cup was on the moon?
Chu Liang knew that this was the third clue, and unraveling it should lead to the final location of the white jade glazed cup. But compared to the previous clues, this one indeed left no traces to be followed.
After pondering it for a while, making sure there were no other clues missed, Chu Liang decided to exit the cave.
Before leaving, he could have destroyed the jade wall. In this way, he would be the only one across all of Shu Mountain to have this clue.
But he didn’t do it.
...
Two days later, all of Shu Mountain was swept up in a fervor.
It was about analyzing the second clue of the Mountain God Sacrifice, pondering the meaning of those four jumbled pictures pieced together.
Those who had initially obtained the clue thought it was a secret and studied it surreptitiously. But soon it was discovered that almost all the teams participating in the Mountain God sacrifice had bought the picture scroll.
But it didn’t matter, as everyone had it, it facilitated discussion. Most of those who should have been eliminated early on now had the pleasure of participating.
In the history of the Mountain God Sacrifice, there had never been a time when none of the participants failed in the first round and all had moved on to the second round. All thanks to the selfless contribution of one handsome young man.
"Wow... So many Sword Coins."
The members of the Mountain God Sacrifice Team gathered together, marveling at the small mountain of Sword Coins. Almost every team from Shu Mountain bought their clues this time, altogether they had garnered almost seven thousand Sword Coins.
This was more than Chu Liang had anticipated.
Lin Bei had made such accomplishments possible. He alone sold more than half of the clues. Some teams, who didn’t initially have any interest, had already given up by the time they met the triplets at Yunyao Peak. But Lin Bei went to their door a second time to sell it and managed to sell it off.
Looking at his exuberant demeanor, Chu Liang was confident that if Lin Bei decided to sell houses, he could single-handedly take over an entire housing estate.
"Everyone has put forth great effort this time. You each should take twenty percent of the Sword Coins," said Chu Liang.
The others beamed at his words.
Twenty percent each, was that equivalent to dividing equally among the five of them? That was a huge sum of money.
But on second thought, they were somewhat embarrassed.
Especially Lin Bei, who had previously shared the profits from Black Whale Mountain with Chu Liang and had already made a fortune. Reaping the benefits again this time was a bit too much for him to handle.
He voiced his concern, "Is that really alright? You were leading the whole process. Isn’t it unfair to you if we all take an equal share?"
"No problem at all," Chu Liang replied nonchalantly, "I am taking ninety-two percent already."
"... I see." Lin Bei immediately dismissed his embarrassment.
So, this is how the division at Silver Sword Peak works.
Even so, even two percent was more than a hundred Sword Coins, quite a decent sum for an ordinary Divine Consciousness Realm disciple. If they weren’t following Chu Liang, they would have had to spend a long time to earn so much.
Henchman A said, "Actually, we didn’t contribute equally. Lin Bei sold more than us."
Lin Bei waved his hand dismissively, "Hey, hey, we don’t need to overthink this."
"Indeed." Chu Liang added, "The rest of you merely need to strive harder next time."
"Yes..." Henchman A nodded, suddenly feeling a bit off, "Wait a minute, next time?"
As the group were happily divvying up their spoils, the echoing sound of a crane’s cry came from outside, followed by another letter from Chu Liang from Tiantian Peak.
Chu Liang opened it to find a message from Elder Shen.
Given the urgent tone of the message and the fact that affairs here were already wrapped up, Chu Liang immediately set off.
As soon as he arrived at the Sword Exchange Pavilion, he saw Elder Shen waiting there with a mischievous grin.
"Do you know why I’ve asked you here?" Elder Shen asked Chu Liang.
"I would assume you have another challenging task for me?" replied Chu Liang.
"Smart." Elder Shen nodded in approbation, "Indeed, it’s no trivial matter. Traces of the Demon Sect’s Soul Slaughter Sect were allegedly detected in Yanbo City in the Eastern Sea. Nearly ten ordinary citizens have already died; we suspect it to be the demon residue from the Third Realm of the Soul Slaughter Sect. Hence, a Golden Core Realm Disciple is needed to lead a team for the arrest. And I recommended you first."
"Thank you for the recommendation, Elder Shen," Chu Liang thanked him promptly.
Chu Liang didn’t know too much about the Soul Slaughter Sect as it was busted and smashed to pieces hundreds of years ago. The remains, however, which resurface occasionally always suffered heavy peer pressure from Nine Heavens and Ten Lands.
Whenevwer a case arises that involves the Demon Sect harming ordinary people in the Human City Pool, it’s always given top priority and is a focal mission. After all, it encompasses Shu Mountain’s doctrine - the elimination of demons is the foundation of being a cultivator.
Such an important mission offered a chance for Chu Liang to enter Shu Mountain’s upper echelon early. Even though he had already become part of the upper echelon by following his master in extortion and blackmail.
This was only a great opportunity to improve his reputation...
"If you do well in this task and successfully lead the team, you will potentially be treated as well as Xu Ziyang and Jiang Yuebai in the future," Elder Shen added.
Being treated the same as them would imply the treatment of core disciples.
"I will spare no efforts!" declared Chu Liang.
"This task will require you to bring along two to three disciples in the Divine Consciousness Realm. Do you want to invite them yourself or should I help you recruit?" Elder Shen asked.
Immersed in her words, Chu Liang felt nostalgic. Not long ago, he used to be the one following along. Now, he was the one leading as a Golden Core Realm disciple.
He thought for a moment and said, "I’ll call in two fellow school disciples. It’s more efficient to work with familiar people."
"Great," agreed Elder Shen.
After returning, Chu Liang called Shang Ziliang and Lin Bei.
"I’ve been assigned an urgent task and need two Divine Consciousness Realm disciples. If you two are available, come along with me," he told them.
Shang Ziliang, who was at the peak of the Divine Consciousness Realm preparing for his Core Formation, had top-notch combat power among Divine Consciousness Realm disciples in Shu Mountain. Lin Bei was only a late-stage Divine Consciousness Realm disciple, but was extremely useful when traveling outside and could help avoid a lot of trouble.
They were his first choices since they were already familiar with him.
Lin Bei readily agreed; however, Shang Ziliang said, "A mission, right? Why don’t I bring my two brothers along? The more people, the better."
"Hmm..."Chu Liang pondered, "Having your two brothers along wouldn’t necessarily bolster our fighting strength that much, but it would significantly increase food expenses. Let’s consider them for next time."
Shang Ziliang agreed with Chu Liang after some thought, "That’s true."
