Chapter 200: Chapter 97 Did you hear all of that, senior? [Vote for the monthly ticket!]_1
The next morning, Silver Sword Peak welcomed three guests.
The one who led the way was an elderly man with sword-arch eyebrows, white hair, and an aura reminiscent of the deep sea and tall mountains, his strikingly bright eyes intimidating. The elder carried a giant sword on his back that resembled a door plank, catching quite the attention.
Behind him followed a young disciple with handsome features, clad in white silk with a colorful belt. He was slender and upright. He too had a broad, weighty sword strapped to his back, albeit less exaggerated than the elder’s door-plank-like weapon.
At the rear was a brawny man with burly eyebrows and big eyes, Yun Chaoxian, carrying a large halberd on his back, his expression somewhat complex. He seemed nervous around Zhang Juque, as if fearing that his senior uncle could become hostile at any moment.
These three men were naturally the martial artists from the Heavenly Gang Sect.
Zhang Juque was indeed impatient. Receiving Chu Liang’s reply yesterday, he arrived first thing this morning. The young man behind him was his direct disciple, Li Fujian, also one of the four core disciples of the current Heavenly Gang Sect generation.
Yun Chaoxian came along entirely out of loyalty to Chu Liang, thinking that if talks fell through, his presence could mediate and alleviate the tension.
Chu Liang greatly appreciated Yun Chaoxian’s uprightness, but he was confident about this conversation.
"Prepare to receive our guests!" He first raised his hand.
Liu Xiaoyu and the Golden Fur Beast, standing at either side behind him, lightly bowed to the Heavenly Gang Sect party. Everyone in Silver Sword Peak came out to welcome the guests. Even the flower garden had been pruned, the welcome was nothing short of grand.
Zhang Juque’s status in the martial world was worthy of such a grand reception. Any visit of his to Shu Mountain would require heads of each peak to at least come out to greet him.
"Rumors of the senior’s grand visit have made me incredibly nervous," Chu Liang stepped forward and spoke aloud, "Please forgive any shortcomings in the ceremonial etiquette."
"No need for such formalities." Zhang Juque’s gaze shifted as he spoke straight to the point. "I am here to investigate the death of my Heavenly Gang Sect’s Demon Beast, Baize. Didn’t you want to give me an explanation in person? Speak now."
"This is hardly a suitable place for a discussion. I have prepared a hot pot inside with Shu Mountain’s specialties, prepared with recently slaughtered Winged Fire Snake Monster Meat. Why not come inside, take your meal and listen?"
Having said that, Chu Liang led the three into the main hall of Empress Feng’s loft. And, since they couldn’t entertain guests in his small house, they had to manaage with Empress Feng’s loft temporarily.
Zhang Juque took a seat but showed no intention of eating. He said coldly, "Let’s not rush anything. If you are truly innocent, we can discuss the banquet. But if you’re a wicked person, I will not eat your food."
"Rest assured, senior." Chu Liang gave a faint smile, and then proceeded to recount the incident that had occurred on Black Whale Mountain that day.
From his dispute with Baize over the Sword Leaf Xuan Yang Flower, to Baize’s sinister plot to frame others, culminating in Chu Liang’s justified killing of Baize.
Zhang Juque listened with a deep frown, "Baize had cultivated in our Heavenly Gang Sect for many years. Would it really murder out of resentment? Any evidence to back up this story?"
Chu Liang replied, "Both the General and City Warden Official of Yanbo City can bear witness. Plus, if I had left Black Whale Mountain that day, why would I return? If I wanted to murder and rob, why would I return twice, giving it time to prepare an ambush? It’s clear Baize wanted to leverage the power of the Heavenly Gang Sect to exact revenge on me."
Hearing this, Zhang Juque responded, "If this is truly the case, indeed we can’t wrongly accuse you. However, I will have to verify this in Yanbo City before I completely trust your account."
Although he said he would like to verify, the detailed and realistic description by Chu Liang had him 80% convinced.
In reality, Baize’s claim was just a desperate revenge at the brink of his death.
The master it served had passed away years ago. How could the Heavenly Gang Sect risk offending the Shu Mountain Sect for its sake? The only one who would take offense was the righteous Zhang Juque. But as long as he confirmed that Chu Liang was not wicked, he wouldn’t act out.
"Hehe," At this point, Yun Chaoxian dared to laugh, "...As I said, Brother Chu, like me, is someone who embodies both righteousness and intelligence. How could he do any harm?"
Zhang Juque glared at him, and said, "If you dare commit crimes in the future, I won’t hesitate to punish you."
Yun Chaoxian hurriedly laughed it off.
Zhang Juque sighed, and said, "Since my youth, Baize had been in the Heavenly Gang Sect, we’ve known each other for many years. I didn’t expect it to have such a disposition..."
Chu Liang said, "Senior, this may not be appropriate for me to say, but... for humans, decades might be a long time, but for demon beasts, it’s just a trivial span, insufficient to reveal their true nature."
Yun Chaoxian also wistfully said, "If my junior brother Fujian has a spirit pet right now, and I grew up with it, and by the time my junior brother Fujian dies before me, that spirit pet might leave the Heavenly Gang Sect and do bad things. I might feel the same as you, uncle teacher."
"Hmm..." Li Fujian wanted to express his agreement, but felt something was wrong as soon as he nodded, and frowned, "Why would I die before you?"
"It’s just an example, don’t mind it." Yun Chaoxian laughed and said, "Moreover, your cultivation is not as good as mine, what’s so surprising about you passing away before me?"
"You... you’re spouting nonsense..."
Li Fujian seemed about to utter some crude words, but quickly corrected himself when he remembered his master was present.
He retorted to Yun Chaoxian, "Even if there comes a day when I die before you, it will definitely be because my cultivation is higher than yours! Our Heavenly Gang Sect always believe that the cultivator should lead the charge in battle! Those of you who remain alive are the weakest!"
"Huh?" Zhang Juque, standing nearby, twisted his eyebrows and turned to look at the rebel.
Listening to their squabble, Chu Liang could only force laughter while sneering inwardly.
It was widely rumored that disciples of the Heavenly Gang Sect shared a common brain, and it seemed that the rumor was true...
While they were arguing, a sudden uproar came from outside, as if someone was shouting.
"Chu Liang, come out!"
...
Chu Liang went out and saw three people standing on the open mountainside of Silver Sword Peak.
They were the two close disciples Liu Qin and Lu Xun, of the previously encountered Pill Furnace Elder. Ahead of the duo, there was also a scowling kid.
Clearly, their intentions were malicious.
"Senior brothers, is there any matter?" Chu Liang asked.
"Yesterday you instigated the child to provoke Baize, today we are here to seek an explanation!" Lu Xun responded first.
"What explanation?" Chu Liang asked again.
"To give you a beating!" Chen Lingtong, acting haughty and showing off, stood in front with his hands on his waist and yelled at Chu Liang.
"Hehe." Chu Liang looked at the kid and suddenly asked, "Have you learned not to throw stones at Spirit Beasts now?"
"Wah!" Chen Lingtong immediately flared up at those words, and shouted, "Hurry up and beat him!"
"Hmph." Lu Xun muttered grimly, "Empress Feng is not around, and you dare to be so arrogant..."
"Wait!" Chu Liang suddenly raised his hand and loudly said, "You can hit me if you want, but we must first clarify the matter! Anyway, I’m not your match, but after I’ve finished explaining, I assure I won’t fight back."
"What kind of explanation are you thinking of?" asked Liu Qin coldly.
"Firstly, you indulged this kid in tormenting the Golden Fur Beast. When the Golden Fur Beast defended itself, you beat it up. Isn’t that the case?" Chu Liang pointed at Liu Qin. "And then, I took the initiative to apologize, and when he tormented Baize and Baize retaliated, rather than finding Baize, you came to cause trouble for me. That’s also true, right?"
"Isn’t this clearly bullying those weaker than you, depending on your higher cultivation level, isn’t it?" Chu Liang’s voice rang out powerfully, "Do you carry on so arbitrarily just because your cultivation is higher than mine?!"
"Just spouting nonsense." Lu Xun flicked his sleeve, "What’s wrong with having higher cultivation than you?"
With that said, he leapt into action.
As to Chu Liang’s claim of taking the moral high ground, he had absolutely no interest in dispelling it. For he didn’t plan to engage in debate today, instead he had already secretly resolved to look for an opportunity to take some action. Finally having instigated his brothers to act with him, he didn’t wish to waste time talking. If there happens to be any accident amidst the chaos later, it certainly wouldn’t be his fault...
At this point, Chu Liang slightly turned his body to face the building behind him, and respectfully asked, "Senior, you’ve been listening, haven’t you?"
"Hm?"
The voice had hardly died away.
He then saw an old man with a large sword on his back slowly walk out from the building, his face stern, "The famous, upright Shu Mountain Sect of thousands of years has indeed produced such disobedient disciples. It appears that today, I must teach you a lesson on behalf of your master."
Looking at the evidently extraordinary old man, Lu Xun and the others were momentarily stunned.
Where did this guy come from? They had never seen him on the Shu Mountain before?
Liu Qin recognized the large sword on his back and showed fear and shock in his eyes as he raised his hand and shouted, "Senior, it’s a misunderstanding..."
That day.
The screams on Silver Sword Peak were particularly loud.
