Chapter 1030: Chapter 84 Past Events [2 in 1]_2

"Originally, there were two continents in the world, and to the west of the Far West lay a land of Buddhism; that was where I was born. In our world, the Nine States were considered a pilgrimage site because Shenxu existed there," Venerable Wanfa began his tale, with Zen Master Da Yu listening intently.

"I too had been a Buddhist Disciple since youth, my teachers always said I had a profound connection with Buddhism, and my path of cultivation was smooth. At a young age, I had already become a Primordial Taoist Leader, a great power, and even more, within less than a century, I had reached the status of Limiter."

Though his words were astonishing, Zen Master Da Yu did not question them.

He realized that the other might well be among those few legendary figures in the human history, whose names were mentioned lightly but who were the brilliance of their time.

"At that time, there was nothing godly in the world, and perhaps in a few more years, I could have smoothly achieved Tongxuan. But then, an accident occurred; the Monarch wanted to summon the true Buddha but accidentally brought down the Heavenly Demon instead, yes, none other than Supreme Evil Ksitigarbha," Venerable Wanfa said.

"His devastation in Buddha Country was even deeper than here; he sank the entire continent. With the ground shattered and beings wailing, I personally experienced that catastrophe," Venerable Wanfa remarked with some emotion when mentioning Evil Ksitigarbha.

Zen Master Da Yu knew that this was indeed something within Evil Ksitigarbha’s means. He could easily destroy Yu Capital City, and just as easily it could have been Nine States. The reason this emergence hadn’t caused such extensive damage was because the Demon God had stopped him.

"I could only disgracefully flee. Even as a Limiter, I had no power to fight him. I sought refuge in Shenxu, hoping to find answers." Venerable Wanfa continued, "There I did not find how to defeat Evil Ksitigarbha, but I contemplated and devised a method to achieve godliness."

"I divided myself into two, cutting away all desires and malevolent thoughts, transforming them into a Demon Seed. The me that was the epitome of brightness finally gained recognition from the Primordial Path and merged with it, evolving into the new Ninth Realm in this world."

"With this new power, I finally had the capability to defeat Evil Ksitigarbha. But even using the Primordial Path I couldn’t kill him, only manage to separate his Primordial Spirit from his body and suppress it, using time to weaken his power, waiting for the moment when I could destroy him," he added.

"Afterwards, I left this realm and opened the Skyroad," he mentioned nonchalantly.

Zen Master Da Yu was amazed once again, looking at him with a peculiar stare.

"Heh, don’t be surprised; I truly did go to the Upper Realm, otherwise how could I survive tens of thousands of years under the lifespan restrictions of the Mortal Realm?" Venerable Wanfa shook his head and added, "At that time, I still believed in Buddhism, and when I left, all I thought about was how to do good for this Mortal Realm. Saint Li established the Ascension Law, and I strictly adhered to it."

"Before breaching the Skyroad, I erased all traces of myself in this world, so that even if I failed, no one would seek to use the Path to resurrect me. After succeeding, I separated my physical body and the Path, leaving them in this realm because if I took the Primordial Path with me, henceforth this world would lack brightness. I hid my physical body in a cloud, a spoil of war I had brought down from the Upper Realm. I’m not as strong as Saint Li; it was my limit, barely enough to offset the Spiritual Energy I took with me. I also left all of my legacy on that cloud," he explained.

"So that’s how it is..." Zen Master Da Yu finally understood the origin of that body in the zenith clouds.

"But only after I left did I realize how foolish I had been," Venerable Wanfa said, looking up at the sky. "Do you know what kind of place the Upper Realm is?"

"I’m afraid I’m doomed to remain ignorant," Zen Master Da Yu replied calmly.

Not just him, through the ancient and modern times, how many had gone to the Upper Realm?

"Simply put, in four words: the strong are revered," Venerable Wanfa said. "That world is too vast; my once-prided talent and connection with Buddhism are unworthy of mention there. Having lost the cultivation of the Ninth Realm, I initially still wanted to uphold justice for others, but only after enduring much humiliation did I realize, without strength, none of it means anything."

"The Upper Realm also has Buddha lands. The me that was the epitome of brightness braved dangers along the way west, finally finding that land where I thought I could convert," Venerable Wanfa paused, then suddenly sneered, "But even Buddha lands are cannibalistic."

"There it’s even harder to advance to the Ninth Realm than in the Mortal Realm. After enduring hardships for ten thousand years, just as I was finally about to advance, the Arhat whom I had always followed suddenly attempted to refine me into a Buddha fruit and devour me. I barely escaped with my life, eventually falling back to this world."

"I no longer believe in Buddhism; everything started over. After I took control of the Primordial Path again, I found that godliness had not yet perished in this realm. If I did not change my path, I would die here; of course, I was not resigned to that, so I switched to cultivating the Longevity Path."

"That is how today’s Venerable Wanfa came to be," he stated, pointing to the sky-reaching giant trees to the north.

"The Longevity Path is cannibalistic; the life energy from untimely deaths in the world turns into my lifespan, so I have to continuously incite war and slaughter to maintain my longevity. Moreover, there’s one thing nobody knows: when the Longevity Path reaches the limit, I can absorb life energy through slaughter to enhance my cultivation. It’s just that ordinary cultivators killing thousands or even millions won’t make much difference, so I never revealed this."

"But then I remembered the Evil Ksitigarbha, that Heavenly Demon whom I personally suppressed. Who would have thought that after endless years he could still be of use to me? I used his struggle with the Demon God; regardless of who would win, just killing the survivor would provide me with almost infinite life energy. As long as I retrieve my original body, my strength would rival that of Supreme Evil Ksitigarbha in his prime. Once again successful in proving the Path, I can return to the state of Tongxuan," Venerable Wanfa said, his eyes glittering.

"To advance to the Ninth Realm in the Longevity Path, you’d have to kill a lot of people, right?" Zen Master Da Yu asked.

The Longevity Path was a means of seizing vitality, and its manner of ascension would also be filled with bloodshed.

"Don’t worry about that," Venerable Wanfa said with a smile. "This time, I will take the Longevity Path and leave this realm. By then, all vitality in the Mortal Realm will vanish, and not a single creature will survive. As for how many I need to kill to achieve enlightenment, it’s meaningless."

"Then..." Zen Master Da Yu asked, "Are you planning to start with Yunque Temple?"

"Quite the opposite," Venerable Wanfa replied. "You are the ones who have received my teachings. If anyone is to remain in my camp, I hope it is you from Yunque Temple. Even after opening Skyroad, I can take you with me as we leave."

"Later, I will retrieve my physical body and the Zenith of the Buddha Country will collapse. I am here to tell you to leave early."

His gaze at Zen Master Da Yu was earnest, not seeming to lie.

"Looking at those Buddhist Disciples outside, they truly believe in Buddha, just like when I was cultivating. I plan to give them hope. When I return to the Upper Realm this time, I will become a Buddha myself and create a Buddha Country of my own. In that land, there will be true compassion."

"You intend to annihilate a realm and then preach compassion?" Zen Master Da Yu’s pupils contracted.

"Sacrifices are always necessary in the process, I have already sacrificed once, and there will not be a second time." Venerable Wanfa suddenly stood up, faced the Buddha statue in front of him, and gently tapped it.

The Buddha statue cracked and clanked, then split in two and crashed to the ground.

Boom—

"From now on, I am the Buddha," he said softly after the dust had settled.

Zen Master Da Yu also stood up, walked out, and stood outside the main hall’s door, transmitting his voice: "All disciples of Yunque Temple, leave the mountain—"

As he shouted this, a multicolored aura rose from the ground, and the Mountain Protection Array opened. This time, however, all temple disciples were excluded and violently ejected.

No one knew what had happened.

"It seems you are still stubborn," Venerable Wanfa sighed.

"Even if there is no true Buddha in the world, there will be true compassion," Zen Master Da Yu slowly said, "but it’s certainly not as you describe."

Boom!

As his voice fell, a huge seven-colored lotus, like a massive ship, rolled towards Venerable Wanfa. As a supporting type of Divine Artifact, the Law Lotus Platform’s means of attack were truly simplistic.

Venerable Wanfa leaped up with one palm, pressing above the Lotus Platform, and suddenly, a layer of circles spread out behind him. The tremendous force repelled the Law Lotus Platform—Boom—

Colored light pierced down from the cloud canopy above, directly hitting Misty Mountain Immortal below, instantly piercing through the mountain in the sea, thunderously plunging into the ocean.

Thump—

Venerable Wanfa followed this pierced hole directly to the deepest part of the clouds where a white-robed monk’s body was quietly suspended.

Thousands of years had passed, yet it still radiated a dignified aura.

Venerable Wanfa stepped forward, gently pressing his hand on the brow of the body.

Whoosh.

A ray of golden light brightened, yet a layer of golden light appeared above the body, blocking his action.

Venerable Wanfa shuddered, "Even you won’t accept me?"
