Pestilence: Rise Of The Pure Undead
Chapter 979 - 979: Another One

"I swear I can feel random rumbles through spirit life from time to time…" Solzmimi raised an eyebrow, unable to actually find what was causing it to shake like that from time to time, but somehow, her gaze fell to the spot where Loimos and the golden one had vanished, squinting her eyes.

It had been a long time since those two had popped out of existence, the lives of many people had changed a whole lot since then, and quite a few had forgotten that at any time, it was possible for the ruthless pure undead to just reappear amidst them… Of course, it was also possible that the golden man would instead appear, and that would be great news, but the light ancestor was a bit more familiar with the undead as she had spoken with him once whilst she knew next to nothing about the hero.

She had a hard time imagining the skeleton losing, Solzmimi was not confident about facing him with Hirzartanli whilst he was weakened by the Emerald Realm, the sort of power that he could unleash without restraints had to be terrifying.

In any case, the ancestor could not dwell on such topics for too long, as they still had to deal with the minor lords, the first one, Alkayne, had left one of their Divine Dancing Priestess in a rather bad state, and his troops had caused the death of quite a few brave warriors.

The armour-clad zombie had wielded frost and dark lightning, and it seemed like today would be a completely different story, in comparison to the orderly ranks that Alkayne had led, the undeads following the minor lord appeared disorganised, and their seemed to be a lack uniformity amidst them, be it in attire or choice of weaponry, all of those soldiers were different from one another.

Rather than a compact military formation, it seemed like they were more-so going for chaos, a group where nearly every undead looked unique and fought differently would certainly perform much better by causing unrest and disarray, which indicated that they would probably be far more aggressive than the first group overall, much less concerned with holding a line.

Their ample clothing would sometimes let grains of sand fall to the ground, most notably, they were some warriors garbed in more colourful clothing than the rest, bright yellow, pink, pale red, pale blue, or pure white…

This time, the one that been chosen to act as the leader on the side of the livings was Zilania, the eldest of the Emerald Heralds had to look up to look at the minor lord's face, the ancient mask was unmistakable as that of Ir'Houwl, the undead towered over Zilania like she was some sort of amazonian, garbed in dark, ample clothing that made her look like a shadow.

She stopped at the same distance as Alkayne had previously, unfurled her crossed arms, and unsheathed the two scimitars hanging by the sides of her chest, the curved blades decorated with runes were quite menacing, due to being crafted from black stone, their edges looked horrifying to be slashed by.

The two women stared at one another for lengthy seconds before Zilania launched a small projectile of emerald light, which was blocked without much trouble by the undead- Ir'Houwl had a bit too much experience with light-based attacks to be caught off-guard by something like this.

This marked the beginning of hostilities, the undead troops rushing forward, the disorganised mess that was their ranks crashing against the proud warriors of the Emerald Realm, the latter did not dare underestimate their opponent due to their apparent lack of cohesion, and they did well, as one should have expected, the disarray was by design, and those undeads were perfectly able to work together through the chaos they sought to instill.

Meanwhile, Ir'Houwl did not step forward and instead moved to the side, the Emerald Herald doing the same, much like Irlitimiz, she did not wish to catch the warriors into a crossfire, the undead actually taking the step to take their confrontation away was surprising, considering that even destroyed undeads seemed to always return without problem, the minor lord could easily let her soldiers turn into collateral damage, and they would not mind in the least.

The herald took one last look at Ir'Houwl before turning into emerald light and appearing directly behind the undead, aiming to strike at the back of the knee, but Zilania turned into light again nearly immediately as the minor lord was swift to twist her hips and slash down at where the living had been standing a moment ago.

Then, with a swing of one blade, Ir'Houwl manifested and launched red sand toward the herald, the living instantly sensing that this thing was dangerous, rather than turning into light this time, she did something similar, yet completely different, disappearing from where she stood and reappearing somewhere where the light of the sun was striking, this was much more efficient in preventing the undead from knowing where her opponent would appear at, allowing Zilania to manifest a dagger made out of light and slash at the undead's side before stepping back with graceful movements, evading a swing that would have otherwise separated her head from the rest of the body.

The light dagger was dispelled, the herald realising that she had actually struck at nothing, indeed, the ampleness of Ir'Houwl's clothing was misleading, she herself was actually more of a skeleton with just bits of dry skin sticking to her bones here and there, so when Zilania attempted to slash at her opponent's side, she only cut clothes and air.

Stepping forward, the minor lord demonstrated the dance-like nature of her dual-wielding swordsmanship, pursuing the Emerald Herald even as she turned into light, Zilania couldn't help but frown as she watch her adversary nimbly move around, observing as the sand stuck inside of the ample garments was slung around, giving Ir'Houwl an odd, formless appearance, making it appear as though her limbs were sometimes going into a completely different direction than what they really were going.

And being an undead, Ir'Houwl could indeed switch what she was doing mid-movement, this all rendered her nearly impossible to predict, forcing Zilania to instead move backward, before manifesting several light projectiles, all of which he blocked by the scimitars.

The herald appeared above the undead next, and called down a pillar of light, and then another as the first was dodged, Ir'Houwl was adept at dealing with those sorts of attack from her time in the desert realm.

After evading a third one, the undead launched a slash of red sand up at the herald, who turned into light to evade it, only for her to enter into contact with a few grains, feeling herself be momentarily sapped of energy, the very light within her absorbed by the red sand.

'That thing is dangerous…'
