Pestilence: Rise Of The Pure Undead -
Chapter 849 - 849: Trembling Skies
The world seemed to shake and vibrate with every violent impact upon the barrier, everyone understood that the undeads were challenging them to fight on an open field, but how exactly were they supposed to step outside with what was going on? Pretty much everyone and anyone would end up shredded if they went out, not to mention that they would get struck by around a few dozens of different elements at once, without counting those that were variations of the same one, it was simply madness, and the undead did not seem to be running out of anything.
Not only did they seemed to have infinite stone and the likes to throw, but their energy reserves appeared bottomless too, an undead wouldn't falter even if they exhausted everything that they had, so it was likely that they were just converting their spare inner energies to the one they needed to go longer, but on top of that, they had no problem replenishing themselves using mana crystal, not like they could get sick from absorbing foreign mana into their bodies.
And anyways, there were so many of them that they could rotate whenever necessary, in short, it was already a nightmare even though things had barely even begun.
Thankfully, even their ceaseless assault that would have definitely torn apart the barrier of Tamaris a thousand times over and turned the kingdom into a pile of ash was totally ineffective against the barrier here, it wasn't even wavering at all, it stood firm and unchanging, truly a wonder.
Nothing the undead did was having any effect on it, however, it definitely was setting the tone-
"People of the realm, prepare to reply in kind!" even amidst the chaos, and quaking world, Ioleznta was all smiles, in fact, she seemed totally relaxed, and upon hearing her, the emerald folks present seemed to relax as well, nodding their heads as all of them raised their right hand up.
The heralds and priestesses did not join in, only the beast sorcerers, beast follower, green sun battlemonks and green sun warriors took part, and together, they were shaping a single spell.
Although it wasn't often that one could see the worshippers actually use much of their capabilities, across nearly a decade, those who had come from outside had learned.
Each of the two worships had three distinct castes to them, but they weren't your traditional ranking, they were more of a path to follow, a ladder to climb…
At the bottom, there were the beast sorcerers and green sun battlemonks, everyone began there, some would ascend, and some would remain, either due to a lack of talent, or due to a wish to perfect something.
There, the worshippers would be taught how to control energy, those who followed the sun would learn to manipulate light and spirit life, whilst those who followed the beasts would learn to manifest bestial aspects, one did not see the latter happen often, but every beast worshipper could do it, controlling a sort of bestial essence that they cultivated within them.
This essence and what could be done with it was independent from the beast or beasts the user communed with, there was no clear restriction on that front.
A step above the sorcerers and battlemonks- There laid the beast followers and green sun warriors, where one would instead learn to become a close-quarters combatant, as one might expect, the beast worshippers, compared to the sun worshippers, fought up-close most often, but yet again, their fellows could do the exact same.
Both worships had basically identical steps toward the top, but each favoured a certain aspect more, which, in layman's terms, would make the sun worshippers more like casters, and the beast worshippers more like warriors.
Right now however, they were working together, pooling emerald light, bestial essence and spirit life together into a single construct, when the Emerald Heralds and Divine Dancing Priestesses had joined forced to manifest a single thing, it had resulted an enormous, mass of living light, this time however, the plan wasn't do to something like this, with great focus and effort from everyone involved, they compressed the three different energies as they moulded the raw forces into a specific form.
Meanwhile the assault of the dead did not slow down, every second that passed was punctuated by several powerful blasts that created vibrations so powerful that some people's brains were literally trembling.
A volley of giant arrows crashed against the barrier, and it felt like even the sky was shaking.
It did not take too long for the emerald folks to be done however, positioning themselves, ùade sure no one was in the way, and simply launched their spell forward, revealing a concentrated beam of living light, possessing the destructive capabilities of light, the killing intent of countless beasts, and being granted a life of its own by spirit life, it shot forth, going through the barrier without resistance.
In just the blink of an eye, it was already upon the undeads, but none of them panicked whatsoever, the beams struck an unseen barrier, the latter of which flared up as it resisted the powerful attack, but the instant the corpse mages got involved and began funnelling mana into it, it seemed like beam wouldn't be able to pierce right through.
But it did not need to, no longer controlled by those who had create it, the beam moved of its own volition, trying to reach the undeads from another angle, only to be blocked by another barrier, and soon enough, the assault ceased as they focused on trying to dispel the living coalescence of three distinct energies.
And whilst they were busy chipping away and whittling at the agile beam, a voice rose amongst the livings.
"Everyone who can, give them a taste of what they just launched at us!" it was Iliz shouting whilst standing on top Artazun's head.
Naturally, everyone obliged, and a deluge of spells and projectiles once again started, with the only difference that its direction was opposite to the previous one.
Although the concept was the same, it was a fact that it was much less impressive, much less powerful or deadly than what their enemies had been raining upon them for the past few minutes, there was far less diversity as well.
There ranged attacks crashed against barriers, although those were casted in the moment, and were thus, rather easily destroyed, new ones would just sprout up to replace them immediately, things might be different if the heralds, priestesses, or the the two ancestors joined in, but that would just cause the powerhouses of the undeads to show up as well, and in terms of powerful individuals, they might not have the same quality available right this instant, but they definitely had far greater numbers as well.
It was best not to provoke any reactions from them for now, and instead allow the regular soldiers and warriors to duke it out amongst themselves.
The first battle went on.
