Chapter 160: A World in Disorder
A few days later, in a chamber of Parliament, a heated debate opposed three factions: the scholar, defending Candace’s plan to transform Greed into Dora by killing, the nobles faction, wishing to return under the Queen and her old system, and the proletarians, opposing both sides and wanting total freedom from the Avatars.
"This is complete madness! People are publicly executed under the pretext of making them noble, how can you allow such cruelty?!" Exclaimed a man in modest clothing, representing the proletarians.
"You have been under the wing of this demon who left her people to starve and now you are using that to drive them to suicide, for their families! You should be punished instead of the Queen!"
An obese man wearing rich clothes and representing the nobles took his turn speaking.
"This is a very pathetic statement, you know your life is a misery because of someone but you are attacking us because you are helpless. I think your people visited him and now you still have to find the bodies so why taking this on us? We are as much victims as you, unlike you, we have been threatened for generations."
"Threatened in luxury?! Are you mocking us? We asked you to share your assets in a showcase of protest and solidarity but You refused! You people are evil!"
"Don’t blame us when you’re as helpless as we are!"
While they were talking, the third man, representing the scholar, spoke.
"I think most of you are just deluding yourself about the situation."
"I won’t hear that from someone who defends genocide!" shouted the proletarian leader.
"I have to agree, you are far worse than any of them for defending such a massacre."
The man coughed and readjusted his tie.
"In that case, you who are so enlightened, tell me how you plan to solve the biggest problem in this country, the Twilight of the Gods. Suppose you win the argument, that if there are no more Avatars, who will end the Apocalypse?"
The proletarian leader flinched.
"The end doesn’t justify the mean! People are getting killed!"
"Yes, and the entire center of the Kingdom has been wiped of all traces of humanity. The West is currently facing back-to-back waves of monsters and we have received word that a giant creature, likely a Player, has wiped out the archipelago of Brodolia. This is happening because no Avatars are fighting them, so technically this is the world you wanted. Now please tell me how you plan to stop this genocide without them."
Seeing the proletarian groan, his face embarrassed, the scholar turned to the noble leader.
"And considering the idea of returning under Gluttony, the Queen hasn’t given a word for years now, and we know thanks to Miss Candace that she won’t try to end the apocalypse out of fear of the General of Fenrir, what do you think licking her boots would change? Aren’t you just clinging to your insignificant fortune?"
The obese man groaned, twirling his whiskers. The scholar sighed and put one hand on his chest.
"I understand more than any of you the horror that is happening with the Greed Avatar, but I also understand the principle of sacrifice. Greed isn’t just a monster, but a monster built to kill anything, even a Player. In the long term, he will be too focused on the Players to consider humans, so I need you all to think about how little hope we have and understand our choices. Sacrifices are necessary, Greed has to be a monster for the sake of the world."

A few days later, at a communications agency, Zuri stood in front of a frightened employee.
"Excuse me... Do you want... Baron Zaine’s new contact?"
"Yes, that’s what I said, why do you look surprised? We haven’t spoken in months and I lost contact with him, is there a problem?"
The employee looked at her worriedly and took his work phone.
"Ehm... Let me check something first, with my superior, could you wait in the waiting room?"
Murmurs rose behind Zuri, everyone looked at her with worried and surprised eyes. The girl frowned and closed her eyes.
"Forget it, I don’t need the service of such a slow employee, no wonder you ended up here." She turned her back on him, facing the people who were looking at her.
"What? Is it wrong for a girl to worry about her father? Focus on your pathetic lives instead of being jerks."
She left the scene groaning and as she crossed the streets, she lowered her head.
"I just want to see someone familiar...I’m tired of this..."
She placed a hand on her head, remembering a warm feeling she had missed for a long time.
Meanwhile, in the Queen’s mansion, Solaria crouched on the floor of her room, her hair disheveled and dry tears on her cheeks.
Her television was broken and many toys were piled up in front of her door.
Suddenly, a sinister noise made her raise her head.
Knock Knock.
The girl gritted her teeth.
"... Leave me alone."
Knock Knock knock.
She clenched her fists and put her hands to her ears, trembling.
Knock knock knock knock.
In a room right next to hers, Moonra was hidden under his blanket, shivering.
(... Please... Please just open... don’t make her angry...)
Knock knock knock knock knock.
Solaria bit her lip and stood up, grabbing her pillow and throwing it against the door.
"LEAVE ME ALONE! YOU RUINED MY LIFE! I HATE YOU!!!"
She screamed so loudly that Moonra, who could hear her clearly, rushed under his bed, covering his ears and forcing his body to sleep.
Solaria fell to her knees, wiping a fresh set of tears from her eyes.
On the other side of the door, Gloria, holding a plate of eggs, bread, fruit, milk, and mini cakes, sighed.
She turned towards the hallway and handed the plate to Eryl.
"Do anything but make sure she eats today, I allow you to insult my name if necessary."
She walked down the hallway in slow steps, the maid looking at her emotionless.
In the building where she had taken up residence, Candace received a delegation of emissaries, kneeling in front of the embarrassed lady.
"Wait, please don’t do that..."
"We’re begging you, Sloth Avatar, you are the only hope left for us, please stop Greed!"
"This massacre has lasted for too long, please give us a chance to live."
The dean lowered her head, her lips shaking.
"Please... I would like to give you what you’re asking... but I am just as powerless as any of you, you know... you must understand that we have no other option."
"Please, Sloth..."
"Stop begging me!" She stood up, startling the people at her feet. "I am not a God, not a Saint, I’m just a useless criminal who leads people to their graves because I am an idiot without power! Don’t ask me for help when many have already died!"
She trembled all over her body, her face reddened and her breath heavier. The emissaries seemed troubled when the door opened.
"What’s up, Candace? We heard you screaming." Dora entered the room with a bright smile.
A flash passed through every emissary’s mind and they jumped on their feet, releasing their aura.
Dora observed the emissaries with attention and frowned with a smile.
"Oh? Looks like we’re right on time, did they attack you?"
"What? NO!!! Nonono! They did nothing!" She tried to run to him, but in her rush, tripped on the elbow of one of the emissaries and almost fell.
"Gotcha," Dora said, holding the dean like a princess in his arms.
She was a little disheveled by the quick change of view but gave him a smile, scratching her nose.
"Uh... Oh, thanks."
"No need for thanks, We’re here for you, those evil people won’t lend a hand to you.
"... Hm, about this, they are not evil, so please, be a good boy and don’t attack them."
Dora observed her for a moment and grimaced.
"What?"
".... Oh... they weren’t? Your enemies?"
Dora looked in a specific direction, Candace followed his gaze and her eyes widened.
On the floor, the emissaries were extended over a pool of blood, lifeless. In shock, the dean was unable to formulate a word or even think about one.
"Ah... that’s unfortunate... Hum... We... we didn’t really think... we... we made an error?"
He looked at her, keeping her gently in his bloody arms. Candace’s eyes trembled and narrowed, her lips forcing a smile.
"... No... It’s not your fault... I’m the one who... You made no mistake."
"Ha! Great, and see how fast it was? Definitely something the other us couldn’t do, right? We are the true Dora and We’ll save the world in your name."
Her body trembling more and more, she placed a finger on his forehead.
"It’s... also true... the other you refuse to fight... so you’re the Dora the world needs... If he really wanted to stop all this, maybe he might try something...for once."
"He won’t, he’s an impostor." Dora puffed out his chest.
He placed Candace back on the ground and levitated the soul stones around them.
"Here, since it was our mistake, we will give you this as an apology, all the treasure for our benefactor’."
The soul stones circled around a disgusted Candace, doing her best to drown her emotions in the boy’s smile but soon, something made her mouth open.
A tear fell down Dora’s left cheek.
