Chapter 141: The Demon We Worshiped
Chapter 141: The Demon We Worshiped
Everyone looked at the servant in astonishment. Candace, her face in shock, uncrossed her arms with an increasingly shocked look.
"What... Nosfera, what is that? What does that mean???"
"It’s like you...yaaawn... heard. We were informed about the mental status of Greed, and the Queen would like to seize this opportunity to eliminate a problem."
"Gotta be kidding me!" Mercy stood from her seat. "What the hell? Eliminate? Why? How??? He is not a danger anymore!"
"Yes, and Dora has been under surveillance day and night and never acted like Greed would. How can you make such a decision?" Freya added, placing herself next to Candace.
Nosfera looked at the girls in front and then at everyone else in the room.
Their determined expressions showed that they were not ready to cooperate.
She sighed and closed her eyes.
"Look... we all agree that this thing gave back the old Greed on his will... don’t you think it’s too good to be true?... and he has traces of energies on him."
"What if he had erased himself in anger? What if he had just changed his memory to make us hurt the real Dora? This Dora is the same as before... even better, he is a hero, we got attacked by a Disaster and he was the one who beat..." Iris places her hand over her mouth, realizing that she has said too much.
The Nymphs turned to her and looked at her in amazement, Nosfera sighing and Eryl with anxiety.
"Wow... I’m pretty sure that goes against the Queen’s order." Nosfera said, her eyes still closed.
"You... You can’t be serious..." Moonra stood up, staring at Iris and then at Freya. "No, really? How? How could you let this happen?! He used his power? He fought?! HIM??? And you know that?!"
"So what? Your mother is worse, and you don’t blame anyone! What’s the problem if Dora helps us?" Mercy protested.
"Lady Mercy... You are not all that stupid... Gluttony has been there from the beginning, and this kingdom still exists. She doesn’t need to be perfect, the kingdom still exists and that’s a fact. But Greed..."
"Greed saved us!" Iris stepped forward.
"The same Greed that said... that we would beg for his help?.... It’s called a plan, young woman."
She opened her eyes, her irises glowing oranges.
"You were right... blond dude... it might be better to do this..."
Everyone flinched and stood in front of Dora’s bed.
"Hey, what are you doing?!" Candace said, her irises glowing white.
"The same thing as him, Sloth... there’s an infallible way to stop someone’s plan."
Candace’s body trembled a little; she was ready to jump on her enemy, but a voice behind the maids froze her.
"Erasing his memory," Solaria said, clenching her fists on her knees.
All eyes turned towards her.
"What?" Agharita frowned. "Erase his memory?
"What is this? Agiel, what does that mean? Why erase his memory?! How..." Candace flinched and understood what Nosfera was ready to do.
Agiel walked next to the bed and looked at Dora.
"It’s a safety issue. I’m really sorry for you because I heard that many of you had a great relationship with him after he woke up, but I think it’s time you decide to wake up. Greed did something to become the same as before but without its memory. We already know that Sin won; Midgard herself confirmed it, and there is no possibility that the real Anesidora will return suddenly."
"What do you know?" Iris grabbed his shoulder, her eyes darkening. "You are the reason we have this problem in the first place... You and the Queen! You are the reason the Twilight of God happened, you are responsible for Greed taking over, These servants did everything to delay Elizabeth! You guys are the real culprits of all this bullshit, and now you want to take back our little peace? How far do you have to go to ruin someone’s life?"
"Miss Iris..." Eryl spoke in a very low voice.
"No, you the damn traitor, keep your mouth shut!"
The tension was up again in this room, Eryl lowered her head, unable to gather the courage too speak up.
A part of herself was dead the day when everything changed, and she, too, came to regret the past.
Moonra nodded at her sister and walked to the center of the room.
"Listen, I really understand your reaction, but we..."
"Yer not understanding anything!" Mercy shouted at him, her face burning with rage. "Don’t talk as if we were together, you three have been on the Queen’s side from the beginning’, we shouldn’t have trust ya."
"... We were also unconscious when the iy happened. We woke up in a car, don’t assume we..."
"Then why didn’t you come back? You stayed by her side, despite what she was doing to people! You guys aren’t different than accomplished!" Iris twisted.
Moonra, with a vein on her temple, gritted her teeth.
"And what did you want us to do exactly?! You have seen her already, and you know no one can do anything to oppose her! Do you think we like it? Do you think we’re having fun seeing these people coming to our home, knowing that they will get killed? She does everything the way she wants, she doesn’t care about our opinion, we aren’t even that important!... We will die one day... but she will still exist ... she doesn’t need us, as... we are only her children for this century... Do you think I am fine with Dora’s situation? I know a lot more than what you all know... and at least I have some shame..."
He lowered his shoulders, breathing heavily.
"Nothing is fair... Not just for him, nor you... everyone is suffering... I saw... I saw children among the people manifesting... I saw their skin tear under the spell of Mother... Dozen times... I couldn’t sleep for days. Mother is a monster, but so are Dora, Silva, Apophis, and Shaka. These people are the real poison of this world, and the proof is you. Look, look how happy you were before, look how happy you were these past days, just because he came back to his old self. But have you ever considered the losers who cry in the shadows? Those who have lost everything because of him, those who are neglected because his shadow is too big, is it bad to cry for them?... is there anyone here who had a thought for Cid? Dora has healing and creation magic; he could regrowth his leg anytime; why hasn’t he done that all this time?... he could, and it wouldn’t cost anything... but he chose not to do it."
Freya clenched her fists, her gaze lowering for the first time.
"I understand your point, but not everyone is a saint, not Dora, and certainly not us either. Dora never claimed to be a hero, it was Cid’s choice to antagonize him, he has his reasons to not sweat for him."
"See? This is exactly my point. You’re so blinded that you’re giving an excuse he never said himself... Iris, have you ever considered how the other students council members may have felt?"
Iris frowned and looked slightly away.
"Iris, they may despise you today, I heard that even Sunnah wasn’t around you anymore... But before blaming them, have we thought about what led to it? The way you see the weeks he way you couldn’t careless about their praises for you."
"I’ve never asked for anything like that. I never forced anyone to follow me, and I’ve already acknowledged that they were right. I am a monster, and this is why I will protect Dora."
Moonra shook her head and finally turned to Mercy, the young girl bit her lips, already knowing where it was going.
"And you, Mercy, I heard you had revoked Hope as your Knight after Dora’s return. I won’t blame you, I know he is really hard to understand but... couldn’t you have let go of him sooner?"
"... What?"
"See, I revoked Thomas right after his fight against Dora because I knew that he would be safer far away from him after that. I knew the full extent of a Sin’s madness, but it sure took you long enough. Do you know how much he must have suffered being compared to him? He was an idiot, but didn’t he do everything for you? Training repeatedly, risking his life in Rifts... trying to be a hero... did you once praise him? He was your knight, but you were his noble. Why were you so focused on someone else’s knight? To be on good terms with Elizabeth?"
"... What?! No!... It was never that!... I... I just... I didn’ want him to be rejected... so I tried to keep’im around... but he refused to join... I didn’ do anythin’ with interest."
Moonra’s words hit them like a ton of bricks. They stared at him in disbelief, their eyes widening with shock. It was as if he had read their minds and exposed their deepest secrets.
They all knew that what she said was true. Even the Princess and Eryl, couldn’t deny it. Dora’s importance in their lives had only become apparent to them after he had displayed his strength.
As they stood there in silence, their heads hung low, Candace looked at them in disbelief, wondering if they even realized the gravity of what they were doing.
"You all... Do you even understand what erasing his memory means? You want to kill Dora?"
