Chapter 722: The Genius Gemini Stars
After having dinner with Fatty Tang, Xiao Yi left the classroom, leaving Fatty Tang to study hard for the exam. Xiao Yi actually wanted to stay and study in the classroom like Fatty Tang, but unfortunately, he hadn’t prepared much when he left the house that day; he had only brought one book from the morning class, which he had pretty much finished reading.
Leaving the classroom, Xiao Yi didn’t head back to Azure Waterfront but went straight to the library.
Arriving at the library, Xiao Yi was once again amazed. The huge library was completely full! Not only that, even the spaces without seats in the book towers were filled with people standing and reading.
Fortunately for him, the books Xiao Yi wanted were not popular examination materials but just some regular textbooks, which were almost never in demand at the library. Also, he wasn’t picky about his reading environment. As long as it wasn’t too noisy and nobody deliberately bothered him, everything was fine. After successfully getting the books he wanted, he found a secluded corner, settled down, and immersed himself entirely in those textbooks.
This was the first time since entering University Z that Xiao Yi had seriously studied these textbooks. In the past, although he always seemed to be attentively listening in class, he hadn’t really taken those things to heart and only occasionally read a little.
The freshman year courses were generally not too difficult. Nearly half of the courses were common basic ones for the whole school, such as philosophy, which mainly tested memory. For Xiao Yi, there was almost no difficulty; he simply glanced through them and set them aside.
Soon, he shifted his main focus to the remaining foundational courses. Mathematics, as a pure science, had foundational courses that were tougher than those of other subjects. Unlike the humanities, which involved memorization, these were all about understanding and logical reasoning. Absorbed in deciphering each formula, Xiao Yi soon completely lost track of time until the library staff came to clear the area, and only then did he suddenly realize how late it had gotten. He put the books back on the shelf and walked out of the library.
These subjects were quite interesting, but mastering them needed more than just reading books; they required practice, just like medicine.
It seemed that he, too, would have to buy some workbooks like other regular students and start doing some ’homework.’
While walking home, Xiao Yi reflected on the knowledge he had absorbed that afternoon and shook his head with a wry smile.
All this time, although he had been attending University Z as a student, he had never really seen himself as one. He unconsciously always thought of them as the students, treating them like children, yet completely forgetting that he was just a child himself, even younger than some of them.
Therefore, he had never bought any workbooks, let alone like other students, obediently doing homework every day and submitting it to the teachers. He hadn’t handed in homework even once since his enrollment.
It was also fortunate that University Z had a relatively free atmosphere and the teachers weren’t strict with management. Otherwise, just based on Xiao Yi’s failure to hand in homework, he might have been reprimanded by the teachers.
Of course, it was also thanks to his fierce performance from the moment he enrolled, which made the class representatives and student leaders too intimidated to collect homework from him, allowing him to remain unbothered.
"Boss, it’s bad, really bad!"
Having bought those workbooks and returned home, just as he was about to open one to start some exercises and consolidate the afternoon’s gains, Xiao Yi’s phone rang urgently. Pressing the answer button, he heard Fatty Tang’s frantic voice on the other end.
"What happened? Why are you panicking?"
Listening to Fatty Tang’s anxious voice through the phone, Xiao Yi’s heart skipped, "Fatty, are you alright?"
"I’m fine, boss, but you’ve got trouble..."
Touched by Xiao Yi’s concern, Fatty Tang felt a surge of emotions, then anxiously said.
"Me? What trouble could I have? I’m fine."
Relieved to hear Fatty Tang was alright, Xiao Yi was both relieved and puzzled.
"Boss, did someone challenge you today?"
"Challenge? What do you mean? Oh, I remember now. This morning, when I was buying you food, some crazy guy came up out of the blue wanting to challenge me. How did you know about it?"
Xiao Yi paused for a moment, then recalled the morning’s events.
"Crazy guy?"
Hearing Xiao Yi label Fang Jingxu, the math genius, as a crazy guy, Fatty Tang’s mouth twitched violently a few times.
"Yeah, I don’t even know him. He just came up wanting to challenge me; if that’s not crazy, what is?"
Xiao Yi shrugged his shoulders.
"Boss, tell me, was this guy short with thick glasses?"
Fatty Tang’s mouth twitched a few times before he regained his composure and asked seriously.
"Yes, that’s right, Fatty, how did you know?"
Xiao Yi nodded, a flicker of confusion passing through his eyes. He remembered that at noon, when that incident happened, there had been no one around, and even if there were people, Fatty Tang definitely wasn’t among them.
"Boss, you’re in big trouble; you better check the school forum right now, and you’ll understand,"
Fatty Tang said directly, "Do it quickly."
Having said that, he didn’t wait for Xiao Yi to respond and hung up the phone.
"Hello? Hello..."
Xiao Yi wanted to say something more, but Fatty Tang had already hung up. Listening to the dial tone on the phone, Xiao Yi had no choice but to put down the phone somewhat bewildered, "School forum? What exactly is Fatty Tang up to, being all secretive and mysterious?"
However, after hesitating for a moment, he still turned around, went to his computer, and logged onto the school’s forum.
"Huh?"
The moment he opened the forum, Xiao Yi’s eyes went wide, nearly bulging out of their sockets. It took him a moment to regain his composure, thinking he was seeing things. He rubbed his eyes, then looked again at the screen before him.
When he confirmed the content on the screen again, Xiao Yi almost bounced off his chair.
"This is nonsense, all nonsense!"
Xiao Yi couldn’t hold back his rage anymore, losing his composure for the first time; he felt like he was going insane.
The computer screen was filled with banners like "Xiao Yi challenges Fang Jingxu, seeking to prove who’s better!" The worst part was, some posts even involved Zhao Yuhua, "Xiao Yi bets a beauty in a wager with Fang Jingxu, vowing to win first place in the School of Mathematics. If he fails, he will leave Zhao Yuhua on his own accord!"
He had nothing to do with Zhao Yuhua. What would Zhao Yuhua think if she saw these postings? What would people think if it spread?
It took him a while to calm down slightly; he didn’t bother reading the later messy comments like "Xiao Yi doesn’t know death, idiot" and others. He quickly picked up his phone again and dialed Fatty Tang’s number, "Fatty, give me ten minutes, find out who that bastard spreading rumors online is, and also, remove all those posts at once!"
"Boss, if they could be deleted, I would have done it already. Would I need you to tell me that?"
Fatty Tang said helplessly, "I can’t hack into the school’s website at all!"
"You haven’t even tried, how do you know you can’t hack in? No matter what, you have to think of something!"
Xiao Yi said discontentedly.
"Boss, how could I have not tried? Since the semester began, I have tried at least seven hundred times, and I just can’t hack in,"
Fatty Tang said exasperatedly, "But, boss, about that bastard who’s spreading rumors, I do know who he is."
"Who is it?"
Xiao Yi’s face turned cold.
"It’s that madman you mentioned. Moreover, I must remind you, although I agree with you that he’s a madman, I think it’s necessary to tell you that this madman isn’t just any madman. His name is Fang Jingxu, known as a prodigy child in mathematics. He didn’t participate in middle school or college entrance exams and was always admitted on a recommendation. He has won three consecutive Olympic Mathematics competition gold medals and was directly taken as an Inner Sect Disciple by our dean. He is our School’s guaranteed talent for continuous Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD programs. Moreover, he is also hailed as the future hope of the mathematical world."
Fatty Tang explained earnestly to Xiao Yi.
"What? It’s that madman!"
Hearing Fatty Tang’s words, Xiao Yi’s mouth hung open, at a loss for words. He had never expected that the mastermind would be that guy. His initial reaction had been to suspect those problematic kids he had conflicts with in the past, like Li Ziming, Zhang Botao, among others.
He didn’t catch much of what Fatty Tang mentioned afterward.
After a while, he finally came back to his senses and asked Fatty Tang, "You just said, that madman, he is pretty amazing?"
"Not just pretty amazing, he’s insanely incredible!"
Fatty Tang corrected Xiao Yi’s words, "He and Zeng Xiaoxiao are recognized as the genius Gemini Stars!"(To be continued. If you like this work, we invite you to vote and support us on qidian.com. Your support is my greatest motivation.)
