Chapter 69: Chapter 70 Emergency Event

(Third update coming right up, brothers and sisters, votes please!)

—————————————————"All right!"

A huge cheer burst forth in the classroom, followed by thunderous applause.

Xiao Yi also gently clapped, feeling an involuntary surge of fondness for the English teacher; yet he was secretly astounded—indeed, Z University was a place where talents hid in plain sight. Without mentioning anything else, just by this teacher’s personal charisma and influence, he was certain that the English scores of this class would be exceptional.

"So, let’s begin our lesson, shall we? Today, we’re going to talk about another story, a very fun story..."

As the wave of applause gradually subsided, Zhao Hong waved her hand just at the right moment, signaling for the students to quiet down, and with a smile toward Xiao Yi, she began her lecture.

When she started the lesson, her Mandarin ceased, replaced by fluent English.

Listening to Zhao Hong start the lesson, Xiao Yi’s eyes once again showed his astonishment; apart from her influence, her English proficiency was also incredibly high.

As he listened on, the more he heard, the more surprised he became; Zhao Hong didn’t adhere to the textbook. Instead, she used Andersen’s fairy tales, familiar to everyone, to explain the curriculum. She tackled every grammar point mentioned in the book one by one, captivating all the students throughout the class. Even Fatty Tang, breaking his unprecedented record, listened with great interest without falling asleep for the first time.

"Boss, how was it, Teacher Zhao is amazing, isn’t she?"

As the bell signaling the end of class rang and Zhao Hong left the classroom, Fatty Tang turned his head with an admiring look on his face, looking at Xiao Yi, "In all my years, Teacher Zhao is the best English teacher I’ve ever encountered. Compared to her, all the previous English teachers are just rubbish."

"..."

Seeing Fatty Tang’s admiring expression left Xiao Yi speechless, though he couldn’t deny that Zhao Hong indeed had quite the talent.

"Boss, you’re new here, so you don’t know, but let me tell you, having Teacher Zhao this semester is truly a blessing for us. Teacher Zhao is a high-achieving graduate from Yale University in the United States. She only started teaching at Z University last year, and within three months, she was voted as the most popular English teacher of the year at Z University. Rumor has it she’s even as popular as campus idols, with a fan club rivaling the top ten beauties of the university. Students from other classes are green with envy at us."

Without noticing Xiao Yi’s reaction, Fatty Tang continued to gush with enthusiasm.

So she was a Yale graduate, no wonder her accent had such a thick New York flavor.

Hearing Fatty Tang’s introduction, Xiao Yi suddenly showed a look of realization.

Zhao Hong’s second class incorporated many interactive and practical components, no longer solely consisting of her lecture. Nonetheless, the class atmosphere remained as enthusiastic as the first session, exceptionally popular with everyone. Inverse to the usual classroom fear of being called on, everyone was eager to answer her questions. Those not picked showed visible disappointment, especially the girls—Xiao Yi found their expressions frankly speechless.

During the class, Zhao Hong posed a question to Xiao Yi as well, but he failed to answer, not because he didn’t know or was pretending to be unassuming, but because his attention had been momentarily diverted by something else—missing his question.

His phone had rung with calls from Chen Jianguo, and not just once; it kept ringing, three times in a row before stopping, which caused him a wave of anxiety and confusion. Chen Jianguo wasn’t the kind of person to be impetuous. If the call went unanswered once, he would typically hang up, not let it keep ringing continuously.

Just as he was lost in thought, Zhao Hong called on him, and without clarity on the question, he could only reply that he didn’t know.

However, Zhao Hong didn’t say much, not even reminding him to pay attention. After realizing Xiao Yi couldn’t answer, she simply let him sit down. Yet, Xiao Yi caught a meaningful glance from her, making him aware that Zhao Hong had noticed his distraction during class, which was why she had called on him. This understanding made him feel slightly embarrassed and appreciative of Zhao Hong.

There weren’t many students in the English class to begin with, and with Zhao Hong’s teaching method, by the end of one English lesson, Xiao Yi had already gotten a good grasp of this unfamiliar class. He’d identified all the class officers and committee members, thanks, of course, to Fatty Tang, who would quietly explain who each person was every time someone was called upon.

The end of the second class also signified the end of the entire lesson, but there was no cheering from the students. Everyone seemed reluctant, as if they wished Zhao Hong’s class could go on forever.

Yet, Zhao Hong did not indulge the students’ wishes to continue the lesson. As soon as the bell rang, he closed his textbook and said with a hint of reluctance, "Classmates, even though it’s hard to part, I still must say goodbye. I hope that next class, I’ll hear good news from everyone, that all the vocabulary I mentioned will be memorized, and the exercises in the textbook completed."

"Don’t worry, Teacher Zhao, we definitely won’t disappoint you!"

Although the students were reluctant, they knew today’s class had truly ended, and with faces full of regret, they passionately chanted in unison to Zhao Hong.

"Goodbye, everyone."

Hearing the passionate cries of the students, a look of satisfaction crossed Zhao Hong’s face. She waved to the students and then coolly walked out of the classroom, leaving behind a marker used for writing on the blackboard.

"Goodbye, Teacher Zhao!"

All of the classmates stood up and shouted in unison.

Xiao Yi also stood up and bid farewell to Zhao Hong along with the rest of the class.

"Boss, class is over. What do you plan to do? Any activities?"

After seeing off Zhao Hong, Fatty Tang finally turned his attention to Xiao Yi, smiling obsequiously as he spoke.

"No, Fatty Tang, I’ve got something going on right now, so I need to head out. If anything urgent comes up, just give me a call."

Xiao Yi shook his head and quickly said so to Fatty Tang before heading toward the classroom door first.

"Boss, what’s so urgent? Can I help with anything?"

Fatty Tang paused at the sight of Xiao Yi’s anxious expression, then quickly took a step to follow him and asked with concern.

"It’s nothing, just a small matter. If I need your help, I’ll come to you. That’s all for now; you go ahead with your things."

Xiao Yi felt a touch of warmth, patted Fatty Tang on the shoulder, and then walked briskly towards the corridor of the teaching building. As he walked, he took out his phone and dialed back Jianguo’s number.

Fatty Tang watched Xiao Yi’s receding figure, wanting to say more, but after a moment’s thought, he shook his head and stopped pursuing further. However, a look of worry faintly appeared on his face.
