Chapter 456: Chapter 457 We Are Not Worthy

"I’m just a passerby, but I’m a bit puzzled by what you two were saying. Why can’t this gentleman come here?"

Mr. Ma’s eyes harbored a deepening chill as he looked at the expressions on their faces. His hand clenched secretly beneath the table, but his voice remained indifferent.

"Old man, this has nothing to do with you. Go about your business, or else I’ll make sure you won’t even be able to stay in the hospital."

Qian Xiaojie’s patience waned further as he waved his hand dismissively, thinking Mr. Ma was just a nouveau riche or perhaps a so-called high-income white-collar worker with some status beneath him, given his calm demeanor.

"Very well, ’I’ won’t even be able to stay in the hospital!"

Hearing Qian Xiaojie’s discourteous words, Mr. Ma felt as if his lungs were about to burst with rage!

He had initially planned to visit Qian Fuchen today, as their families were old friends; and after the previous misunderstanding was cleared up, he had grown somewhat fond of Qian Fuchen and his brother Qian Fuyu, especially admiring Qian Fuchen after several conversations. Yet, he hadn’t expected to descend the stairs only to hear someone mocking and belittling Xiao Yi, saying Xiao Yi didn’t deserve to be here. The anger inside him had instantly flared—Xiao Yi was a man who had become a lifesaver in his eyes after the noticeable improvement in his own father’s health, and a friend he felt compelled to be close to. When Qian Fuchen’s incurable illness also showed clear signs of recovery under Xiao Yi’s care, Xiao Yi’s status in Mr. Ma’s heart soared to an incomparable height—second only to the old man himself!

How could he not be infuriated when such a person was treated with such flagrant disrespect? In Xuanwu Country, how many dared to belittle his friend? Who had the right to belittle his friend?

Besides, even if Xiao Yi were not his friend, the tone of those comments was something he greatly disliked, something he detested!

He made up his mind on the spot to teach them a lesson, to show the ignorant brats just how high the sky is and how deep the ground is outside!

However, he hadn’t expected that these two would not only ignore his mocking words but also show him blatant disrespect!

Old man? He was just over fifty—a prime time for his successful political career. The arrogant tone was something he had never encountered in his life... He had been born with a golden key in his mouth, and because of his background, he had been respected by all since birth. As he progressed in his political career and his status climbed day by day, he became more and more revered.

When had he ever been looked down upon like this?

"Today, I am getting involved. I want to see what makes you two brats think you can kick me out of the hospital!"

It took a while for Mr. Ma to regain composure from the anger that had consumed him. Below his thick eyebrows, his tiger-like eyes suddenly shot a sharp glance at Qian Xiaofeng and Qian Xiaojie, exuding a domineering presence in an instant.

Qian Xiaofeng and Qian Xiaojie never expected this benign-looking man to suddenly become so fierce, and his expression seemed extraordinarily significant.

The aura he emanated was something they had never felt before, even more terrifying than when their family head was angry. They were momentarily stupefied by Mr. Ma’s intensity, turning pale and unable to speak.

Just then, a door to a nearby ward swung open, and a middle-aged man with an anxious expression stepped out, casting his gaze in their direction.

As soon as he saw them his eyes lit up, and he excitedly called out, "Mr. Xiao!" before quickly walking over.

"Sixth Uncle?"

At the voice of the man, Qian Xiaojie and Qian Xiaofeng suddenly snapped back to reality and looked towards the source of the sound, calling out joyfully.

"Xiaojie, Xiaofeng, you’re here too?"

The man who had rushed out was Qian Fuyu. He had been so focused on Xiao Yi that he hadn’t noticed them, but upon hearing their voices, he turned his attention their way.

However, his mind didn’t linger on them for long; just a moment later, he noticed Mr. Ma standing beside Xiao Yi and greeted him respectfully, "Big Brother Ma, you’ve also come down!"

"Hardly worth mentioning. It seems Xiao Yi and I don’t deserve to be in your high-class ward, so we’ll take our leave now."

With a cool look at Qian Fuyu, Mr. Ma said this and then turned to leave with Xiao Yi.

As he was leaving, Mr. Ma’s gaze, laden with an exceedingly cold sneer, glanced at Qian Fuchen, the corner of his mouth twisting into a smirk, "The people of the Qian Family, truly imposing, aren’t they!"

Only someone with impaired intelligence and dull senses, a complete idiot, would fail to perceive the extreme displeasure in Mr. Ma’s heart. His dissatisfaction with Qian Fuchen had reached its peak.

Qian Fuchen couldn’t help but be stunned; he didn’t have a clue how he suddenly offended Mr. Ma, how Mr. Ma, who had previously shown goodwill towards both him and his brother and had seemingly let bygones be bygones, suddenly seemed to hold a significant grudge against him yet again, even more so than when his third brother had called Xiao Yi a fraud.

It took him quite a while to come to his senses. With a heart racing in fear, he hurriedly caught up and, with an expression of desperate earnestness, blocked the way of Xiao Yi and Mr. Ma, who were about to leave, his eyes pleading as he said, "Big Brother Ma, Mr. Xiao, could you please tell me what exactly is going on? Have I inadvertently offended you in any way?"

He knew very well that under no circumstances could he let them leave like this.

Let alone the fact that Xiao Yi, the Divine Doctor, was tied to his third brother’s health, or even his life, the presence of Mr. Ma beside him was critical. If Mr. Ma left in anger, it would signify a complete and utter break between the Qian and Ma Families. Even if Mr. Ma, out of respect for the past friendship between the elder generations, would be magnanimous enough not to retaliate against the Qian Family, the mere fact of him disregarding the Qian Family from then on was a consequence the Qian Family could not afford to bear!

At this very moment, for the Qian Family, which had just survived a major disaster, the Ma Family represented the last straw, the final chance. Losing the support of the Ma Family meant the Qian Family would have no hope of ever rising again.

"Mr. Qian, I, Xiao, come from humble origins and low status, and I truly don’t deserve to be in this high-class ward. so I will be leaving first," Xiao Yi said with a helpless expression as he spread his hands, looking at the anxious Qian Fuchen.

"Mr. Xiao, this..."

Hearing words similar to Mr. Ma’s coming from Xiao Yi’s mouth, Qian Fuchen felt on the verge of tears, with sweat pouring from his forehead as if a spring had been opened.

Qian Xiaojie and Qian Xiaofeng, standing off to the side, watched Sixth Uncle humbling himself in front of Xiao Yi and Mr. Ma, behaving with the utmost respect as if he were a grandson, and were completely dumbfounded.

What exactly was going on?

Who on earth was that Mr. Ma?

Both of them began to feel a sense of unease arising in their hearts, the unsettling feeling that they had once again caused a huge problem by offending someone they shouldn’t have.

Yet, they couldn’t understand why Sixth Uncle would show such awe towards Xiao Yi, let alone Mr. Ma.

"Qian Fuchen, did you not hear what Xiao said? Do not stand in our way. Moreover, I, Mr. Ma, would like to see how exactly the Qian Family intends to throw me out of the hospital," Mr. Ma said coldly, looking at the frazzled Qian Fuchen, without a hint of politeness in his voice. Although he knew that it was those two young members of the Qian Family who had caused the trouble, not Qian Fuchen, he had no intention of letting him off the hook, nor did he feel any sympathy for him. Pity for one usually implies contempt for their circumstances; the adults were largely responsible for their children becoming so arrogant and presumptuous.

"Thrown out ... of the hospital?"

The words from Mr. Ma nearly made Qian Fuchen’s legs buckle beneath him, and he almost collapsed. His eyes nearly rolled back in faintness, and his speech became stammering, while a cold sweat completely soaked his clothes in an instant.

At that moment, upon hearing Mr. Ma’s reminder-filled words, he began to somewhat understand why things had turned out the way they had...

His gaze shifted toward Qian Xiaojie and Qian Xiaofeng, his eyes chillingly cold and devoid of any warmth.

"Six... Uncle..."

Seeing that the usually affectionate Sixth Uncle now looked at him with an expression he had never seen in his life, Qian Xiaojie couldn’t help but feel a tremor in his heart.

His face turned pale, and a sense of fear took root within him.

On the side, Qian Xiaofeng also felt his legs weakening, a chill running down his spine, and he hung his head low, meeting Qian Fuchen’s gaze only briefly before he no longer dared to look up.
