Chapter 393 - 396: They Make Trouble
Chapter 393: Chapter 396: They Make Trouble
It must be said that his reaction speed was quite swift, and his velocity wasn’t slow either, at least, faster than the companion he had before him. Perhaps against someone else, he might have had the chance to run away. Unfortunately for him, he wasn’t facing someone else, but Xiao Yi, whose speed was nearly unmatched even among his peers at the Initial Tier of Condensation!
Thus, his escape was doomed from the start. No sooner had he bolted than a pain so intense as to seemingly tear his heart and lungs apart flared up from his back, sending his body stumbling forward to collapse onto the concrete floor in a posture resembling a dog’s mess, releasing a cry of pain even more exaggerated than that of his companion.
Witnessing the efficiency of Xiao Yi’s actions, the bystanders couldn’t help but gasp in unison. They truly hadn’t expected Xiao Yi to dare to strike these men so decisively and in broad daylight, especially as a car was already speeding their way!
With their eyesight, they couldn’t make out the extent of the damage Xiao Yi’s strike had inflicted, but they could clearly see the twisted expression of pain on their faces, one that clearly wasn’t faked.
Even Wang Qingqing hadn’t expected Xiao Yi to act so impulsively and ruthlessly. For a moment, she stood rooted to the spot. She did indeed hate these men, and for the first time, she found herself betraying her legal principles by secretly hoping that Xiao Yi would teach this guy a lesson. Especially after hearing the sounds that had just been made and seeing their smug expressions of victory, she seethed with irritation at these despicable and shameless villains who pretended to go get money, all to cheat Xiao Yi!
But now that she actually saw Xiao Yi’s decisive action, she couldn’t help but feel a surge of complex emotions in her heart.
"It seems you’re a bit more enduring," Xiao Yi said.
Xiao Yi didn’t pay attention to the peculiar looks from the people around him. His gaze swept over the two men writhing on the ground, then he turned his head to look at the skinny man who was the first to be hit by him but had yet to start howling in pain. Instead, his face was pale and he watched Xiao Yi with an expression filled with utter terror. A cold smile crept across Xiao Yi’s lips as he shook his iron club and walked over to him once more.
"Hiss..."
Just as Xiao Yi had stepped in front of the man, ready to lift his club for another blow, a strange sound suddenly rang out, accompanied by an odd and distinct smell.
"What’s going on here?"
Some of the people closest to the source immediately caught the scent, and their faces showed surprise.
"Urine... he actually wet himself..."
Finally, someone realized what was happening and cried out.
"Whoosh!"
Following the direction of the pointing finger, a surge of murmuring swept through the crowd.
People often say, "Scared so much they wet their pants..."
But nobody had actually seen someone literally wet their pants out of fear, which was always thought to be an exaggeration found in movies and novels... but at this moment, such a scene was genuinely unfolding before their eyes. As the crowd murmured, they couldn’t help but get excited, pointing at the slender man and starting to gossip...
The slender man’s mind started to spin, his cheeks burning so hot they could have boiled a kettle of water. When he heard the cry of alarm and the pointing and murmuring of the crowd, he couldn’t stand it any longer. His vision darkened, breath failed him, and with a sway, he collapsed to the ground, unconscious.
"Didn’t expect this one to be even worse off," Xiao Yi muttered to himself.
Xiao Yi hadn’t expected the man would wet himself and faint from fear. He glanced at the skinny man now lying on the ground and, losing the urge to deliver another blow with his club, set it down. He dusted off his hands and prepared to greet the oncoming ’saviors’.
"What’s going on here, who’s causing trouble?" A commanding voice called out from beyond the crowd.
As those words were spoken, an imperious-looking man in his late forties, whose presence would have been commanding if not for his decidedly rotund belly, pushed through the throng that parted to create a clear path for him. He was followed by another similarly pot-bellied man, none other than Director Li who had claimed to be going for the money. Behind the two men trailed a dozen or so others, each of them armed to the teeth, exuding impressive martial bearing.
With the arrival of this group of enforcers, the atmosphere seemed to freeze, filling the air with tension. The onlookers began to find even breathing difficult, treading very carefully as if the mere act might ignite a blaze. Each person was exceptionally quiet, as though a loud breath could bring disaster upon them.
Next to her, Li Xiaomei’s legs went limp as well; people have an innate sense of dread towards thugs. Observing their stern expressions, they looked like grim deities, and beside them, there was also a portly man joining the group. Having never witnessed such a scene before, Li Xiaomei was overwhelmed.
Fortunately, Wang Qingqing reacted quickly and reached out to support her, preventing her from falling to the ground.
However, Wang Qingqing’s own hands began to tremble with equal nervousness. She had already guessed that these thugs were trouble when she had seen them excited earlier.
Not to mention that Xiao Yi had just hit their people—even if he hadn’t, it was clear that attempting to reason with them was futile...
After Xiao Yi glanced over the approaching men, he took no hesitation in addressing the three fallen individuals on the ground.
"Ah? Wang, Wang..."
Without Xiao Yi pointing it out, Director Li had not yet noticed the sorry state of his three companions. As Xiao Yi gestured, Director Li suddenly became aware and let out an exclamation, quickly stepping forward to the tallest of the men, crouching down to help him up, and said in shock, "What happened to you guys?"
"Director Li... you’ve finally arrived. Had you been any later, you wouldn’t have found us here!"
The tall and broad man, with Director Li’s help, finally stood up and looked despairingly at his companions.
"What’s going on? And what about Wang and Lan, what happened to him?"
Director Li felt a surge of alarm and, while urgently examining him, quickly went to assist another companion.
"This little bastard, he did it!"
The burly man glared at Xiao Yi, his face filled with resentment, and spoke through gritted teeth, "He said you were late, gave each of us a hit with a stick, and Lan has been knocked out by him!"
"You can eat whatever you want, but you should watch what you say. That guy fainted on his own, and everyone here can bear witness!"
Hearing this guy pin blame on him that wasn’t his, Xiao Yi quickly retorted.
"So you’re saying, you did hit these two?"
Hearing his companion’s words and realizing that Xiao Yi had really raised a hand against his men, and the intensity was no small matter, the portly Director Li’s face displayed an expression of disbelief. This kid was harsh; had he been any later, who knows what might have ensued!
It took him a while to come back to his senses, and a spark of anger ignited within him. He bit his lip, pointed at Xiao Yi, ready to unleash a scolding, but just as he was about to speak, the portly man he had brought along spoke first, his gaze coldly fixed on Xiao Yi.
By now, he had made up his mind about what had happened.
He had already heard the gist of the situation from Director Li on the way here; Director Li had been urging him to hurry, but he hadn’t taken it too seriously. He thought the young man was just threatening them and wouldn’t really hit anyone, yet he hadn’t expected this young man in his twenties to be so audacious to actually strike.
"Don’t spout nonsense; I was acting in self-defense, not hitting anyone!"
Xiao Yi corrected the man with a stern face.
The portly man did not expect Xiao Yi to face his questioning without a hint of fear and to respond with a calm demeanor, which momentarily startled him.
But soon, he remembered what Director Li had mentioned, the matter of hastily offering a million. A sneer flashed in his eyes, and a cold smile appeared on his lips. This kid must be the son of a newly rich magnate, accustomed to throwing his weight around at home and really thinking himself to be something, huh?
Too bad, this is G City!
G City is no place for any Tom, Dick, or Harry to throw their weight around! (To be continued. If you like this work, you are welcome to vote for it on qidian.com. Your support is my greatest motivation.)
