Chapter 28: Chapters 26-27 Rescue

"Eh, that’s right, just now, that guy seemed to have come from the rooftop. What was he doing up there?"

It took a while before the sweet and adorable girl snapped out of her endless speculations and remembered a practical question, her eyes darting around.

Smoking?

No, that couldn’t be right; he didn’t smell of smoke at all.

The girl’s eyes darted again and suddenly she spun around and dashed upwards, heading straight for the rooftop.

"Eh? The rooftop door is locked?"

Arriving at the rooftop, the girl found the main door securely locked, which made her look around curiously as she started searching the surroundings, only to find the ground extremely clean and tidy, showing no signs of anything amiss.

"Hmm!"

Just as she felt a wave of disappointment and was about to leave, she suddenly heard a painful moan from the rooftop.

"Eh?"

Hearing this moan, the girl couldn’t help but exclaim in surprise, her eyes shifting as she turned and pressed her ear against the rooftop.

"Young Master Gao, I’m so furious, today this bumpkin really screwed me over."

The voice that came up belonged to a burly man. After a few minutes, although his hand still ached, it was no longer the excruciating pain he had felt earlier, so he spoke more smoothly.

"Hmm."

The one who moaned again was the last handsome man, who now turned out to be the most in pain; he had kicked a steel pipe with his foot, not feeling pain would have been odd.

"Yeah, Young Master Gao, this time, we definitely need to seriously deal with that bumpkin."

The tall and lean man was also not in much pain anymore, but his hatred towards Xiao Yi was even greater than that of the muscular man. The pain from that injection he had experienced was something he had never endured in his life, and his malice exceeded that of the muscular man— while the muscular man always wanted to just cripple Xiao Yi, he wanted him dead.

"Killing him isn’t necessary, but no matter what, we must give him a deep lesson!"

In Gao Junjie’s handsome eyes flashed a hint of coldness, "Zhao Hu, Li Han, can you guys walk now? If you can, let’s get out of here, it’s pointless staying here."

"We can walk."

"Let’s go."

"Li Han, help me."

...

Xiao Yi was completely unconcerned about what was happening on the rooftop. As he walked out of the school and checked the time, he felt it was still early and not in a hurry to return to Azure Waterfront. After a thought, he decided to visit the G City Book City. He remembered the old man once saying that G City’s Book City was one of the top three book cities in the country, comparable to the Yanjing Bookstore, with a rich collection of classics. Since he was currently in G City and still unaware of the old man’s intentions, and having some free time, it would be a pity not to check it out.

Of course, it would be even better if he could chance upon some useful materials.

G City’s Book City is located in the new central district of G City, almost twenty kilometers away from Z University. However, transportation was very convenient; not only was there a rail service directly there, but also several buses passed through the area.

Xiao Yi casually glanced at the station in front of Z University’s main entrance, then, like the other waiting passengers, turned his gaze towards the direction of the incoming bus, anticipating the arrival of one of the several lines.

Fortunately, the bus frequency in G City was quite high. Xiao Yi didn’t have to wait too long before he saw a bus that passed through the Book City approaching from a distance. As he prepared to stand, an unexpected incident occurred. A dilapidated, gray-white van suddenly cut diagonally from the adjacent lane and violently veered towards the direction of the bus platform.

More precisely, it charged towards a pretty girl standing next to the platform, who was holding several books and apparently just passing by; she seemed to be another Z University student.

Damn, is this the trend in G City now, scaring people with stunt driving?

Xiao Yi stared dumbfounded at the van that suddenly flew out. Only this morning, he had been subjected to this kind of stunt scare by Gao Junjie and his crew. Now, just a few hours later, another incident occurred.

But suddenly, his expression changed. From the corner of his eye, he caught sight of the menacing look on the face of a fierce-looking man in the van heading straight for the girl. In his gaze, he detected something sinister: a murderous intent!

The pretty girl had also noticed the van crashing towards her from the side, but the mad speed at which it approached had stunned her into immobility; her face went pale, and she had no reaction whatsoever.

The people standing next to him only saw a blur before the person who had been standing in front of them disappeared; they all couldn’t help but rub their eyes, wondering if they had just experienced an illusion. Before they could confirm what was going on, they heard several cries of alarm and pain nearby, turning their attention to the noise. They immediately saw the young man who had just been standing beside them, now lying far behind on the safety barrier, embracing the pretty girl who had just been walking by the roadside, almost certainly assumed by them to have been hit. Both had some dust on them, a clear sign they had rolled over the ground.

’Those cries of pain just came from that girl’s mouth.’

So, had that young man just dived to save her?

However, his jumping power was incredibly fierce, wasn’t it? From where he stood to where the girl had been, it was at least three meters away!
