Chapter 142: Chapter 145 Impulse

(Thanks to Tianya1983 for the tip. Also, today Old Xie is not taking a day off, at least five updates.)

———————————————————————————————

Xiao Yi had not expected Fatty Tang to be so impulsive, to rush up alone without even a warning signal. After a brief pause, a faint smile appeared on his face, and he slowly followed suit. Although he could tell at glance that those thugs were just common hooligans, and that Fatty Tang should be able to handle them with the Jiu-Jitsu he had taught, the fact was that Fatty Tang had not yet fully mastered the technique. He worried that if something went wrong, it would be disastrous. Moreover, he intended to indulge him—though the story of a hero saving a damsel was an overdone cliché, it was still effective in touching the hearts of girls.

"If you want to keep doing business in this area, behave yourself, and cook these things properly for me!"

The thug, seeing the girl’s frightened and pale face, afraid to speak, sneered. He casually grabbed handfuls of skewered meats and other items from the nearby supplies, filling a whole basket before handing it to the girl.

Looking at the basket full of items the thug had prepared, her face instantly turned green, and her body began to tremble. These items were the most expensive ones there—chicken wings, mutton skewers, and the like. The cost of a whole basket would be at least twenty dollars, meaning she would be working for nothing today. If business was bad, she might even end up losing money.

But facing the menacing faces of the thugs, she knew that if she didn’t prepare the food for them, the consequences would be even worse. However, if this continued day after day, how would she make any money?

She took the basket silently, a bitter and aggrieved feeling welling up inside her, and her tears could no longer be held back as they started to fall.

Seeing the girl take the basket and start preparing the barbecue, a smug look appeared on the faces of the thugs. The leader turned around and gestured to his followers, preparing to sit down at a nearby table to wait for the girl to finish cooking.

However, as he turned around, his vision blurred as if a huge fist was rushing towards him. Before he could react, a searing pain shot through his cheek and into the nerve center of his brain.

A trail of fresh blood flowed from the man’s nostril.

"Ah!"

He involuntarily cried out, his body swaying, nearly falling to the ground. Fortunately, one of the thugs managed to hold him up, keeping him upright.

"Brother Shui, are you okay?"

"You’re looking for death, you fatso!"

"Do you know who we are?!"

"..."

The sudden turn of events took the gangsters by surprise. The one supporting their leader was staring nervously at his boss, whose nose was still bleeding, while the rest of the gang glared at Fatty Tang with furious eyes, swearing and cursing at the audacious stranger who had appeared out of nowhere and dared to strike their boss.

Fatty Tang didn’t respond to their words. He glanced at the girl to make sure she was unharmed, then turned his attention back to the other gangsters. Without hesitation, he threw a punch at the one standing closest to him.

"You actually dare to hit back!"

This time the gangster was ready, avoiding Fatty Tang’s punch by tilting his head. A fierce light shone in his eyes as he swung a vicious hook toward Fatty Tang’s chin.

Although these gangsters were neither very tall nor trained experts, they were all tough fighters who had honed their skills through street fights since they were young. Their attacks were brutal, with strikes aimed at particularly vicious and vulnerable spots.

If Fatty Tang had been hit by one of their punches, even if it might not cause him significant damage, it would definitely have been painful, possibly rendering him temporarily incapable of defense and subjecting him to a severe beating from the gang.

But just as the gangster’s punch was about to land, mere centimeters from Fatty Tang’s chin, his complexion suddenly changed. He felt as though his arm had been lightly pricked by a needle, and then his hand seemed to lose all strength, going limp.

Fatty Tang naturally didn’t miss this opportunity. With renewed force, he swung a fierce punch at the gangster’s face.

"Ah!"

Instantly, the gangster screamed, blood trickling from his nostrils as he clutched his face and collapsed to the ground.

The other gangsters, seeing yet another comrade felled, collectively moved in to attack Fatty Tang. But without exception, as they made their move, they suddenly found their arms devoid of strength mid-strike, and Fatty Tang punched each one to the ground.

"Kid, you’ve got guts. Do you know who we are!"

The initial gangster who had been punched by Fatty Tang earlier had already recovered, wiped the blood from his nose, and was prepared to pick up a stick and beat Fatty Tang, but seeing how Fatty Tang had floored all five or six of his brothers with ease, and the imposing figure he cut, hesitated and only glared at him fiercely.

"I don’t care who you are. You’d better get out of here right now and never show your face again, or I’ll beat you to death!"

Fatty Tang had felt nothing out of the ordinary while he was fighting, but now, seeing the gang leader with a long stick and a savage look, his heart sank. Immediately though, his gaze fell on the girl next to him and Xiao Yi standing not far away, and his confidence swiftly returned. He glared fiercely back at the gang leader.

He had absolute faith in Xiao Yi’s kungfu. Even if the gang leader had a stick, what was there to fear with Xiao Yi around? Moreover, since he had knocked out the other gangsters with a punch each, it proved that the Jiu-Jitsu taught by Xiao Yi was extremely effective. Perhaps he wouldn’t even need Xiao Yi to step in; he might be able to take down the gang leader himself.

During the fight, he had been completely unaware of anything unusual, simply thinking that the reason he could knock down five or six gangsters with single punches was due to the arduous cultivation of Jiu-Jitsu Xiao Yi had taught him. He was now even more determined to train harder in this technique and felt immense gratitude toward Xiao Yi, for imparting such a supreme cultivation technique to him. (To be continued.
