Wang Qingqing hadn’t expected Xiao Yi to say he would accompany her, and after a moment of stunned silence, she suddenly leapt up with joy. But immediately, she hesitated and said, "But, Xiao Yi, won’t it interfere with anything you have to do?"

"It’s all right, I don’t have anything else this morning."

Xiao Yi smiled, his determination to help Wang Qingqing solidifying in his heart.

"That’s good."

When Wang Qingqing heard that Xiao Yi was free, she felt relieved, smiled, and then pointed to a bus stop not far ahead, "Let’s go over there to catch the bus, there’s a station just ahead."

"No need for that, let’s take a taxi. It will be quicker."

Although she had never been to the Provincial People’s Hospital, she often passed it when she took the bus to her tutoring jobs. Fortunately, just as her heart felt like it might leap out of her chest, the taxi finally stopped steadily at the curb, and the driver announced with a pleasant voice, "We’ve arrived at the Provincial People’s Hospital."

Wang Qingqing let out a long sigh of relief, glanced at the meter, and felt a bit more at ease. Fifty-six yuan was still within an acceptable range. She reached for her wallet.

"Driver, here’s the fare, and keep the change."

However, before her hand could touch her wallet, Xiao Yi had already handed over a fifty and a twenty yuan bill to the driver.

Watching the driver take the money with a smile, Xiao Yi then turned to Wang Qingqing with a smile of his own.

Wang Qingqing didn’t think much of it. Hearing Xiao Yi agree to her terms, she relaxed and got out of the taxi along with him.

The Provincial People’s Hospital was a well-established institution with a long history, tracing back to before the republic was founded. It was also known as a prestigious hospital within the province. Although affiliated hospitals of Z University and other hospitals had rapidly developed in recent years, this old-brand hospital had continued to wield significant influence. It provided treatment not just to patients from within the province, but also to those from neighboring provinces with serious conditions.

From the parking area at the entrance to the outpatient department building, there was a constant stream of people, bustling with activity, and occasionally one could see doctors and nurses moving hurriedly.

Xiao Yi and Wang Qingqing, following the address given by Wang Qingqing’s aunt, arrived at the emergency department’s consultation room.

As soon as they approached the consultation room, they saw a dark-complexioned woman sitting in agony on a waiting chair near the door, clutching her stomach with one hand and gripping her medical record and registration form with the other. People of various ages surrounded her, clearly all waiting their turn for consultation.

"Auntie!"
