Chapter 32: Chapter 32 The Trainee Boyfriend Takes Action

"Grandpa, you’re up really early!"

It was early morning when Lin Fan stepped out of the bedroom.

But he saw Ning Zhenyue sitting on the stone bench in the courtyard.

"When you’re old, you sleep less."

Seeing Lin Fan coming out of the room, a smile spread across Ning Zhenyue’s face.

He had come over early in the morning just to supervise.

"Grandpa, how about I teach you a set of Eight Pieces of Brocade to get your arms and legs moving, it’s good for your health."

Lin Fan certainly knew what Ning Zhenyue was thinking.

Yet he didn’t know that despite sharing a bed last night,

he hadn’t even touched her hand.

"Sure, I need to take care of my health. I’ll be looking after your kids in the future," Ning Zhenyue replied with a smile, getting up.

The two then began to practice the Eight Pieces of Brocade in the courtyard.

And in the bedroom, Ning Mengyao, pretending to have just woken up, watched the grandfather and grandson through the curtain, thoroughly enjoying themselves.

A smile also appeared at the corner of her mouth.

Her grandfather had always doted on her since she was little, and after her father’s death, he took even greater care of her.

Now that she got along well with Lin Fan, she felt consoled.

However, lying in the same bed still made her uncomfortable.

"Grandpa, good morning!"

After freshening up, Ning Mengyao walked out of the bedroom.

She proactively greeted her grandfather.

But seeing Ning Mengyao in professional attire, a hint of displeasure appeared on Ning Zhenyue’s face.

"It’s the weekend, why are you still going to work? Can’t the company run without you? You’re a married woman now, you can’t be working all the time. You should go out and have fun with your grandson-in-law. Even if you don’t go on a honeymoon, you could still take a trip around the lake. They say children conceived on trips are smarter."

"Grandpa, I don’t want to work overtime either. It’s all because your grandson-in-law brought back that order. Many of the devices are ones our company has never dealt with before. We’re now working overnight to find cooperative manufacturers and select products. If there’s anyone to blame, it’s him."

Ning Mengyao pouted, speaking to Lin Fan.

"Should I ask First Hospital to order less then?"

Lin Fan said with a wry smile, sighing.

"You dare!"

Ning Mengyao rolled her eyes at Lin Fan.

Yet that look was more of a flirtatious glance.

"Then it’s up to the CEO to work overtime. I don’t understand the project, so I won’t get in your way."

He had already promised to go to the hospital with Yang Linglong yesterday.

Lin Fan waved his hand at Ning Mengyao with a smile.

He, the apprentice boyfriend, still had his post to assume.

After Ning Mengyao left, Lin Fan stayed with Ning Zhenyue for breakfast.

Then he left the Ning Family’s old house, hailed a cab, and headed straight for First Hospital.

"Why did you take a taxi?"

When the car stopped at the entrance of the hospital, Yang Linglong looked at Lin Fan as he got out of the car.

"It’s quite far, I couldn’t very well walk, could I?"

Lin Fan said with a smile after closing the car door.

"At your age, don’t tell me you don’t even have a car?"

Yang Linglong looked at Lin Fan incredulously.

"Do you get a car just because you’re a certain age? Should the state also assign wives? Can I get two extra ones?"

Lin Fan said, smiling wryly.

"My dad gave you five hundred thousand the other day, didn’t he? Couldn’t you buy a car with that, or are you saying you don’t know how to drive?"

Giving Lin Fan a look, Yang Linglong pulled him towards the ward.

"I do know how, but not the kind you drive. There are countless roads, but safety comes first. With your frail heart, playing such thrilling games all the time, be careful not to burst a blood vessel," Lin Fan replied.

Lin Fan had no choice but to shrug his shoulders helplessly.

This girl really is extraordinarily crazy.

"With you here, I’m not afraid,"

Yang Linglong stuck out her tongue.

The two of them chatted and laughed as they arrived at the door of the ward.

"Grandfather, this is Lin Fan. It was him who saved your life,"

Yang Linglong immediately dragged Lin Fan to the bedside as they walked into the ward.

Mr. Yang, although still as thin as a rake, had eyes that were exceptionally bright.

"Young man, you’ve been a soldier, haven’t you?"

"Good eye, Sergeant Major. I served for six years and just got discharged,"

Lin Fan said smilingly with a nod.

"Six years of service and then discharged? Looks like you didn’t do too well in the military."

Mr. Yang furrowed his brows slightly.

Having spent half his life in the military, he understood it very well.

A six-year discharge usually meant turning into a second-term non-commissioned officer.

It was essentially the end of the line for junior NCOs.

In other words, it meant no connections, no capabilities.

That’s why he would be returning home after discharge.

"It was okay. The leaders didn’t agree at first, but they finally let me go,"

Lin Fan certainly understood Mr. Yang’s implication.

But he did not elaborate further.

"Grandfather, Lin Fan is the one who saved your life. How come you don’t even have a word of thanks for him?"

Yang Linglong looked puzzled as she glanced at her second uncle, Yang Tianqi, standing at the doorway.

Clearly, her grandfather’s attitude had been influenced by him.

"Young man, I do indeed have to thank you for saving my life. We who have been soldiers all know that we must never underestimate our enemies, nor overestimate ourselves. This is not only an iron law of the battlefield but also a maxim of life. My granddaughter has been spoiled since childhood, unaware of the hardships of the world; I can’t bear to see her lead a life of poverty in the future. You should keep some things in mind,"

Mr. Yang, although not explicitly stating it,

His meaning was quite clear.

He did not approve of this grandson-in-law.

"Sergeant Major is right, but have you forgotten, ’Only by despising all enemies can one become a king, and on a narrow path, the brave wins.’ Without giving it a try, you’ll never know your limits. No matter how high a swan flies, there eventually comes a time to land. Life is never all plain sailing. There’s a saying, ’Better to deceive an old man with white hair than to deceive a young man in poverty,’"

Lin Fan said, standing up with a smile.

There are some things he didn’t want to fight for,

But if they insisted on pushing him back, he was determined to go against the wind.

"Don’t be so arrogant here!"

Yang Tianqi, who had deliberately hidden outside the door, couldn’t bear to listen any longer.

He stepped into the ward and mocked Lin Fan directly, "You really think you’re something. ’You can tell how a person will be in their old age by how they are at three,’ and you, a brute who only knows brute force, think you can marry into the Yang Family? What a daydreamer."

"If I only knew brute force, Mr. Yang here would probably be ash by now,"

Lin Fan could tell that there would be no good to come from this banquet.

They had called him here today with the intention of humiliating him.

"You just used witchcraft and took advantage of Professor Wang’s misfortune; if you really had extraordinary medical skills, you wouldn’t have needed to take a taxi here. Don’t flatter yourself. You have the look of a pauper about you. Since you’re here today, let me state my big brother’s position on his behalf, you’re not fit to step into the Yang Family’s door, so you’d better not see Linglong again from now on,"

Yang Tianqi glared at Lin Fan, his face red and his neck thick.

Just now, standing upstairs, he had watched Lin Fan get out of the taxi with his own eyes.

"Who are you to speak for my dad!"

Yang Linglong quickly stood in front of her second uncle, "Even if he had come today, so what? It’s a different era now. Do you understand what it means to have freedom in love and marriage? Whom I choose as my man is my business, and it has nothing to do with you."

"Linglong, shut your mouth!"

Mr. Yang barked angrily, and only then did Yang Linglong close her mouth.

After coughing twice, he turned his gaze back to Lin Fan.

"As the Sergeant Major, I won’t beat around the bush with you. A marriage that is not well-matched in terms of social status won’t end well. You should stop seeing Linglong from now on!"
