Chapter 858: Chapter 854 Redemption
The next day, as soon as Chen Yang woke up, he went straight to the backyard to check.
He found all five assassins, none missing, lying sprawled across the yard.
However, two of them clearly bore claw marks left by Brother Eagle.
It was obvious—those two had tried to escape and ended up being dragged back by Brother Eagle.
Looking at the two injured ones, their wounds had already begun to turn black. Chen Yang couldn’t help but mock them, "I warned you, didn’t I? Why insist on ignoring me? You’re only causing trouble for yourselves."
After saying this, Chen Yang turned his head towards Brother Eagle perched on the peach tree and to Wealthy, down beneath the tree.
"Good work. Here, take these Body-strengthening Elixirs."
Chen Yang casually tossed two elixirs their way. After keeping watch the entire night, both Wealthy and Brother Eagle deserved a reward.
Their eyes lit up instantly at the sight of the Body-strengthening Elixirs. Brother Eagle swooped down from the tree, caught one, and flew back to its nest with Wealthy following close behind.
Chen Yang, meanwhile, planned to freshen up and make himself some breakfast.
"You... what are you planning to do? What do you want from us?"
Just as Chen Yang was about to leave, one of the assassins wounded by Brother Eagle suddenly struggled to speak.
Hearing the voice, Chen Yang paused for a moment.
"What do I want? Naturally, I’m just waiting for Gu Honghu to send someone to find you," Chen Yang replied with a grin. "Don’t worry, I won’t do anything to you. Once Gu Honghu comes over and we settle the price, I’ll let you go."
After saying this, Chen Yang didn’t bother with the group anymore and left the yard laughing, heading to the kitchen instead.
As for the assassins in the yard, after hearing Chen Yang’s words, they looked at each other in despair. Their eyes filled with humiliation.
They were professional assassins! Yet now, they were confined in a yard, treated as commodities for sale?
Having to pay to regain their freedom?
It was outright disgraceful!
The assassins realized the gravity of their situation and each of them felt a burning rage toward Chen Yang, gritting their teeth in frustration.
But aside from seething, they had no other options.
Seriously injured, escape was simply out of the question. They had already tried last night, which not only failed miserably but also led to even worse outcomes—the wounds inflicted by Brother Eagle were still throbbing in pain!
Forced to accept their fate, they had no choice but to obediently remain in the yard under Chen Yang’s command.
And so, that’s how they ended up staying in Chen Yang’s yard all morning until around eleven o’clock.
It was only then that someone from the Gu Family finally showed up to investigate.
The visitor was Gu Ming, who brought along a few others, pretending to casually stroll around the vicinity of Chen Yang’s home while periodically glancing inside.
He looked sneaky—if someone didn’t know better, they would’ve thought he was scoping out the place for a burglary.
Of course, Chen Yang was well aware that this man wasn’t here to rob him.
He was here for the five assassins trapped in the yard.
Watching Gu Ming darting his gaze around, desperately trying to act natural yet failing so obviously, Chen Yang couldn’t help but chuckle. But he didn’t bother to confront him and let him take his time looking.
The more clearly Gu Ming could see the five assassins, the easier the negotiations would be later.
Chen Yang grinned faintly, then lowered his head and carried on watering and fertilizing his medicinal plants.
Gu Ming gradually wandered closer until he finally saw the assassins sprawled all over the yard, as well as Chen Yang tending the plants nearby.
Seeing Chen Yang completely unharmed while the assassins were bloodied and possibly on the verge of death, Gu Ming was utterly stunned.
Without a word or delay, he grabbed his men and hurriedly left the scene—clearly to report the situation back.
After Gu Ming departed, about ten to twenty minutes later, Gu Hongwei stormed over with a group of people in tow.
As soon as Chen Yang saw their aggressive aura, he already knew—they were planning to settle things by force.
And it just so happened that "force" was the last thing that Chen Yang was afraid of right now.
Whether it was strength or reasoning, he had the upper hand, so there was nothing to worry about.
"Chen Yang, open the gate!"
Gu Hongwei, with his men behind him, shouted from outside the wall, demanding to enter.
Chen Yang calmly put down his watering can, cast them a quick glance, and replied with a smirk, "Why should I open the gate?"
The animosity between Gu Hongwei and Chen Yang was no secret, and now, knowing Chen Yang had subdued their five assassins, Gu Hongwei’s face looked downright dark.
"Why? You know perfectly well why!"
Gu Hongwei gritted his teeth and said, "If you don’t open the gate, at least hand over those men!"
Chen Yang burst into laughter upon hearing this.
No beating around the bush—this guy got straight to the point.
Honestly, Chen Yang had thought Gu Hongwei might try to bargain or run circles around him.
But this approach worked too, saved them all the trouble.
"Oh, no. These guys broke into my house in the dead of night trying to kill me. Letting them go just like that? Not a chance." Chen Yang said with a calm smile.
Though his tone was lighthearted, his refusal to release the assassins was resolute.
Gu Hongwei, though seething inside, knew he had no chance of convincing Chen Yang to let them go for nothing. So, after a brief moment of thought, he went straight to the point.
"Fine. Name your price."
"Heh, now that’s straightforward."
Gu Hongwei’s straightforwardness made Chen Yang even more direct. "Two million per head. Transfer the money, and you can take them away immediately."
"Two million each?"
Gu Hongwei’s eyes narrowed slightly as if weighing the cost.
After about ten seconds of consideration, he nodded in agreement.
"Alright, then make the transfer now. Once the funds arrive, take them away. They spent the whole night groaning in my yard; even I’m sick of it." Chen Yang waved dismissively, as if shooing away flies, clearly eager to see the last of the assassins.
Gu Hongwei had kept his emotions in check, but Chen Yang’s casual attitude made veins bulge on his forehead!
It was evident he was furious, though there was nothing he could do against Chen Yang, so he restrained himself.
Chen Yang didn’t care, though. As long as the money arrived in his account, he was good.
Chen Yang provided his bank information, and after some operation on Gu Hongwei’s end, the funds arrived within a couple of minutes.
"Quickest transfer I’ve seen. Feel free to come in and take them away. And next time you want to send people after me, find someone more competent. Stop turning this into a charity drive."
With the payment received, Chen Yang couldn’t resist throwing one last jab at Gu Hongwei.
This time, the veins on Gu Hongwei’s forehead bulged even more!
"Go in and fetch them!"
In the end, Gu Hongwei held back his rage and only barked orders at Gu Ming to retrieve the assassins before he stormed off himself.
Gu Ming, meanwhile, led a small group into Chen Yang’s yard to collect the beaten and bruised assassins.
"Chen Yang, don’t get cocky. Nobody who crosses the Gu Family ever has a good ending. You’ll see!"
After hauling the assassins away, Gu Ming still found the time to leave a parting threat.
"Heh, then I’ll be waiting. Though next time, the price won’t be the same. Just a heads-up."
Chen Yang chuckled at Gu Ming’s threat, utterly unbothered.
Empty threats like that? He had heard far too many to be fazed.
Would he truly be this relaxed if he was afraid?
Watching Gu Ming and the group disappearing into the distance, Chen Yang pulled out his phone and immediately transferred the freshly received ten million yuan to Wu Kexin.
The funds were for school construction purposes.
Chen Yang managed all school construction expenses through Wu Kexin.
Whenever he had sufficient money, he’d transfer it to her for management.
After transferring the money to Wu Kexin, Chen Yang didn’t linger in the backyard. He left for the climate-controlled warehouse to help Aunt Wang and the others with wild mushrooms harvesting.
The sales of wild mushrooms these past few days had been booming—producing thousands of kilograms a day still wasn’t enough to meet demand.
Because of this, Chen Yang started planning to add two more climate-controlled warehouses, which should improve production significantly.
Of course, before proceeding, he would still need to discuss the matter with the Wang siblings. After all, it wasn’t a venture he was running solo.
