Chapter 538 - 538 536 Hand-copied Buddhist Scriptures

538: Chapter 536: Hand-copied Buddhist Scriptures 538: Chapter 536: Hand-copied Buddhist Scriptures After giving Chen Yang a disdainful glance, he stood up.

“You just wait a moment, kid.

I’ll go get it for you.”

Saying this, Old Li turned and headed to the corner of the pharmacy, ascending the staircase there to the second floor.

Chen Yang sat by the tea table and waited for about two or three minutes before he saw Old Li coming back down with an old book, which he tossed in front of Chen Yang.

Chen Yang glanced at the book subconsciously and could tell from the cover that it seemed to be a Buddhist scripture.

Realizing this, Chen Yang was a bit surprised and couldn’t help but ask, “Old Li, what is this?”

Old Li sat down with a smile that was not quite a smile and explained, “This is an old Buddhist scripture that was passed down from a foreign monk.

Though I don’t believe in this stuff, I recognized that it seems quite precious and have been keeping it as a treasure at home.”

“Since you, kid, are looking to give a gift, I thought you could take it to give away.

The old man of the Li Family should like it.”

“Is it really a Buddhist scripture?”

Chen Yang was slightly surprised.

He picked up the scripture and leafed through it carefully, finding that the characters in the book were not printed but seemed to be hand-copied.

It looked to be somewhat valuable.

However, Chen Yang was still somewhat hesitant—wasn’t giving an old Buddhist scripture as a gift for an eightieth birthday a bit miserly?

Just as Chen Yang was thinking this, Old Li, who was sipping tea across from him, seemed to read his mind and immediately continued to explain with a smile, “Yang Zi, you shouldn’t underestimate this scripture.”

“To us, this thing might not mean much, but to someone like the old man of the Li Family who believes in Buddhism, it’s simply priceless.”

“If you give it to him, it’ll definitely catch his attention.

You just go ahead and do it with confidence.”

Old Li waved his hand with full assurance, indicating that Chen Yang could go ahead and give it without worry.

Initially, Chen Yang wasn’t very interested in the scripture, but upon hearing Old Li say that the old master Li was a believer in Buddhism, his interest was piqued.

“Old Li, how do you know that Master Li is a believer in Buddhism?

Do you really know the old master that well?” Chen Yang asked curiously.

Old Li nodded his head: “We interacted a bit when we were younger, so I’ve got some understanding.”

“Alright then, I’ll give this scripture as the gift!” Seeing Old Li nod his head, Chen Yang immediately felt at ease and decided to give the scripture as the present.

After discussing the gift, Chen Yang didn’t leave right away.

Instead, he sat down and chatted with Old Li for a while before getting up to leave.

“Thanks, Old Li.

Both gifts you’ve given me are so precious, I don’t even know how to repay you,” Chen Yang said with a laugh to express his thanks.

Old Li waved his hand with a laugh: “It’s nothing.

You should hurry on your way.

The eightieth birthday celebration is a big deal, and you, as the son-in-law, need to make a good impression.

I’m looking forward to going there for the wedding feast.”

“Alright, I’ll be going then,” Chen Yang said with an embarrassed smile, turned around, got into his car, and drove away.

After leaving Old Li’s herb shop, Chen Yang immediately drove his car toward the urban-rural junction on the south side of the county town.

It took about twenty minutes or so, and he arrived at the urban-rural junction.

The three large trucks they had arranged to meet were already waiting there for a while.

Upon seeing Chen Yang arrive, after a brief exchange, they each got into their trucks and started following Chen Yang towards Liuhe Village.

Before long, Chen Yang led the three big trucks and stopped near his family’s clinic.

Seeing that they had reached their destination, the drivers hopped out of the trucks.

After getting out, they instinctively looked around, curious about what kind of goods they were there to load, but they didn’t see anything relevant.

So, a rough-looking truck driver lit a cigarette and asked Chen Yang, “Buddy, what goods are you looking to load?

Where are they?”

“Hauling wild boars to the city.”

Chen Yang said without turning his head.

“Wild boars?” The truck driver was taken aback, and then asked, “How many?”

“Three.”

Pfft.

Upon hearing Chen Yang’s response, the truck driver almost burst out laughing on the spot, “Bro, are you kidding us?

You called for three trucks for just three boars?

Isn’t that a bit of an overreaction?”

“Yeah, brother, it’s just three wild boars, no need to call for three vehicles, right?”

“We have to make this clear, we came all the way here, so the price can’t be any less even if there’s no cargo.”

Hearing it was just three wild boars, the other two drivers also piped up, afraid that with little cargo to load, Chen Yang might not pay them and they would have come for nothing.

Chen Yang replied with a slight smile, “Don’t worry, the price we agreed on is set in stone, you won’t lose a penny, nor will you have to go back with empty trucks.”

“That’s good then, it would be a huge loss for us to come all this way for nothing.”

Reassured by Chen Yang’s words, the three truck drivers relaxed and quietly followed behind him without saying much more.

When they reached the entrance to the breeding farm, Chen Yang opened the iron gate, and they followed him in as well.

On the way in, the drivers had a sort of smirking smile on their faces, as if they were relieved that the job was turning out to be so easy.

But when they saw the three boars in the woods, they were almost scared stiff…

“Holy crap!

Monsters!”

“My God, run!”

“What the hell is that!”

The three were so frightened that they started shouting and without a second thought turned to run away.

The scruffy man, in particular, tripped and fell, scrambling to get outside.

But Chen Yang stopped all three of them.

“Don’t be afraid!

These aren’t monsters, they’re just wild boars!

They’re just a bit larger than usual, they won’t hurt people!” Chen Yang, holding onto the utterly panicked driver, tried to explain.

The drivers were terrified, but calmed down a bit upon hearing Chen Yang’s explanation.

They all turned back for another look, still afraid though.

“Bro…

you’re joking, right?

These are wild boars?

Boars this huge?

They are almost as big as elephants!” the driver exclaimed in terror.

“Exactly!

Wild boars are already ferocious, and being so large, they could be deadly!”

The scruffy man chimed in from the side.

Seeing the three grown men scared like this by his wild boars, Chen Yang couldn’t help but laugh, continuing to explain, “They really are wild boars, and they’re not dangerous!

If you’re scared, just stand back and watch how I herd them out.”

Though fearful, the drivers were adults and had some degree of composure.

Hearing that they wouldn’t have to handle the situation themselves and would just need to assist a little without any danger, they all nodded in agreement.

“Alright, we’ll wait for you at the gate.

You herd those wild boars out yourself,” said one of the drivers.

“Mm-hmm, okay.”

Chen Yang nodded in agreement, and then the three drivers hurriedly ran out of the breeding farm, leaving Chen Yang alone inside.

Watching the three drivers leave, Chen Yang wanted to laugh and felt a bit helpless at the same time.

He had to go back alone and drive the three boars out of the breeding farm.

The three boars had eaten a huge amount of food and thus consumed a lot of the taming pills, so they didn’t hesitate at all to follow Chen Yang’s commands and simply followed him out.

When they reached the gate, the drivers were even more astonished to see the full scale of the wild boars.

The three boars were of enormous size, and their tusks were frighteningly long.

If one were to be gored by them, their body would definitely be pierced through.
