Chapter 145 - 145 145 The Clever Pheasant
145: Chapter 145: The Clever Pheasant 145: Chapter 145: The Clever Pheasant In the midday heat of the summer, the sun was fiercely scorching.
If it weren’t for sheer boredom, Chen Yang wouldn’t have ventured out for a stroll.
“Eagle Bro, you’ve seemed rather dull these past few days.
I remember you used to dislike staying cooped up at home,” Chen Yang teased the eagle perched on his arm as they were heading to the breeding farm.
Cheep.
Eagle Bro seemed to understand the teasing and let out a disdainful chirp, his expression rather haughty.
Chen Yang couldn’t help but laugh, then continued, “Was it because Heipi shot at you the other day, and scared you?”
As soon as Chen Yang said this, Eagle Bro’s haughty expression vanished in an instant.
What followed was a look of guilt.
It was clear that Chen Yang had hit the nail on the head.
Chen Yang smacked his lips, then caressed Eagle Bro’s feathers a couple of times with his other hand, saying, “It’s right to go out less.
Those people like Heipi are ruthless.
If they come across you in the wild and do something, I wouldn’t know what to do.”
Cheep cheep.
Eagle Bro understood and chirped excitedly twice.
Chen Yang just smiled without saying anything more.
The man and the eagle moved quickly and soon arrived at the wild chicken breeding farm.
Chen Yang first walked around the farm, but he found that he couldn’t see clearly what was happening inside from the outside.
Later, he simply took out the key, opened the farm gate, walked in with Eagle Bro, and casually closed the door behind them.
Walking into the farm, Chen Yang followed some weed-covered paths into the depths of Weed Slope, intending to observe up close how the wild chickens were living after he had enclosed this piece of land with weeds.
There were still quite a number of wild chickens living inside the farm.
Chen Yang estimated that there must be at least a hundred.
So not long after he entered, he encountered quite a few wild chickens.
These chickens scurried back and forth among the weeds, and some even brazenly walked past Chen Yang’s feet, showing no fear of him at all.
“Is this the effect of the taming pellets?”
Chen Yang wondered.
But he didn’t think too much of it and kept moving towards the deeper parts.
Most of the wild chickens lived in the deepest areas, and to truly understand how the chickens were doing, he had to go to the very back.
After walking among the weeds for a while, Chen Yang soon reached the deepest part of the thicket.
Just as he reached the deepest part, the sight that greeted him left him dumbfounded.
At the deepest part of Weed Slope, the wild chickens had trampled the area flat and created a huge chicken nest.
Inside the nest, there were also many small wild chickens.
It appeared they had hatched not too long ago.
Around the small chickens, dozens of adult chickens were pacing back and forth, seemingly looking after the young ones.
The sight before him genuinely astounded Chen Yang.
Were these wild chickens too intelligent, even capable of banding together to build a collective nest and live communally?
“Could it be that the taming pellets are effective in making wild creatures smarter too?” Chen Yang questioned incredulously.
The scene before him was just too unexpected.
Standing in front of the giant chicken nest, after recovering from his surprise, Chen Yang slowly accepted what was before him.
“It’s not a bad thing for wild chickens to be smarter, as long as they don’t become too cunning,” he teased and then found a shady patch of grass nearby to sit down and start observing the chickens’ behavior.
After watching for a while, Chen Yang realized these chickens were indeed very intelligent.
Not only were they now building nests together, but they even had a clear division of labor!
Some chickens were responsible for finding food in the farm and bringing it back for the chicks.
Others took charge of incubating eggs and looking after the newly hatched chicks.
“They really are too smart.”
Chen Yang couldn’t help exclaiming in amazement and then stood up, patting his pants, ready to leave.
Having learned enough about the situation in the farm and seeing that the wild chickens were living well, he had nothing to worry about.
Following the path he had come by, Chen Yang led Eagle Bro back the way they came.
As Chen Yang approached the perimeter of the entire breeding farm, preparing to take out his keys to open the gate and then leave the place, he suddenly heard footsteps and voices from outside the farm.
“Blackie, rest assured, in the middle of the day, definitely no one will see us!”
“As long as we move fast, cut through the iron cages, we can whisk away all the wild chickens inside without anyone noticing!”
“Really?
What if that kid Chen Yang discovers us?”
“Blackie!
There’s no way that kid will find out!
Last time he made us lose face, just the right opportunity to get back at him!”
“Good!
I’ll listen to you, let’s get moving!”
The sound of footsteps from outside grew closer, as if they had already reached the perimeter fence of the farm.
Listening to the footsteps and conversation, Chen Yang immediately concluded.
The people arriving were Blackie and his crew!
In the middle of the day, they planned to take advantage of the absence of onlookers, cut open the iron cages, and then steal all the wild chickens from his farm!
At this thought, Chen Yang couldn’t help feeling furious.
Blackie, constantly causing trouble time and again, was really asking for it!
Although Chen Yang was angry, he didn’t act rashly.
He didn’t charge out immediately to repel Blackie and his men.
Instead, he took Xiaoxiao with him, carefully retreated a few steps back, and completely concealed himself in the weeds.
“They want to cut open the wire cages?
Then I’ll wait for them to cut them and catch them in the act!
Then, I’ll make sure they regret it,” Chen Yang muttered to himself.
No sooner had Chen Yang hidden in the weeds than he heard the footsteps come to a halt at the position of the farm’s iron gate.
“Blackie!
Here’s the iron gate.”
“Good, bring the pliers over, let’s pry this gate open,” Blackie commanded.
At Blackie’s order, his underlings immediately sprang into action.
They took out the pliers they had prepared in advance and started to work on the gate.
Peering through the gaps in the weeds, Chen Yang could see the state of the iron gate.
He could even make out the faces of Blackie and his cohorts.
At the gate, apart from Blackie, there were five or six of his underlings.
Each had a pair of pliers in hand, trying to pry open the iron gate.
Chen Yang’s gaze shifted, and he scoped out other areas, spotting a few more figures.
Those few were some distance from the farm, apparently sent by Blackie to keep watch on the surroundings.
“Very well-prepared, they must have been eyeing my farm for a long time,” Chen Yang murmured, and he couldn’t help but think back to a few days ago, the incident of Blackie shooting Xiaoxiao nearby.
Could it be that during those days, Blackie had already set his sights on his farm?
But hadn’t acted because Xiaoxiao was around?
That’s what Chen Yang was pondering.
“Blackie, without that damn eagle, our job is so much easier,” one of the underlings prying the gate suddenly said, confirming Chen Yang’s suspicions.
The reason Blackie had shot at Xiaoxiao was that Xiaoxiao had prevented them from stealing the wild chickens!
Hearing this, Blackie gave a nonchalant smile: “You’re right, that eagle messed up my plans several times.
Otherwise, I would have captured all these wild chickens long ago, and wouldn’t need to do this in the scorching midday sun.”
The other underlings chuckled together, then redoubled their efforts on the locks.
It had to be said, the iron cage that cost over a hundred thousand was really sturdy.
Five or six of Blackie’s underlings, each with a pair of pliers, were snipping at the wire mesh, but progress was very slow.
After a long time, they had only managed to snip a small hole.
Watching his underlings’ progress, Blackie grew impatient.
“Can’t you be a little quicker?
If we bump into someone later, it’ll be troublesome!” Blackie urged sharply.
The underlings nodded repeatedly.
“Alright, we’ll speed up,” they said.
With that, the underlings started working even harder.
