Chapter 328: Chapter 146 The Strongest Physique, The Glass Body

The little novice monk was no match for Elder Chen Chengbi.

A force of soft strength had sent the monks from the Western Regions sprawling in all directions, though none were injured. The elder forcefully kicked open the locked door, took three steps in place of two, and with a stretch of his hand, flipped over the living Buddha’s bedding and hoisted the old monk who was lying sideways on the wooden bed.

Carrying him, he headed outside.

The old monk swayed in the wind, his face showing utter despair.

Chen Chengbi reassured him, "With your level of attainment, you can manage without sleep."

The old monk cursed:

"If I neither eat, drink, nor sleep, I might as well be dead."

"Buddhist monks endure hardship and meditate without eating or drinking, but they are never deprived of sleep."

"You crazy old man, you, you are even more ruthless than those fellows."

Chen Chengbi burst into laughter, indifferent to these remarks, holding Li Guanyi on the left and tucking the big monk under his right arm, he quickened his steps. The undulating hills were like flat, open fields under his feet, stirring up the wind around. In just a dozen breaths, Li Guanyi was brought to the top of a mountain range.

There was a flat area that seemed to have been cleaved open by sword qi.

On it stood a pavilion, constructed as a single structure with a thick slab of blue stone at the base and robust wood. Although small, having such a construction atop such a high mountain was extraordinary.

Chen Chengbi set down the old and the young.

The old monk looked at Li Guanyi and asked, "You haven’t slept either?"

Li Guanyi grinned and nodded.

Thus, the old monk sighed.

"The two of us are really down on our luck, to encounter such a mad old man." Chen Chengbi said, "What mad man? Back in the day, you swirled people around and smashed them dead against rocks, weren’t you the mad one?"

The old monk, with his benevolent and merciful gaze, said: "The old monk merely sent them to meet the Buddha."

"The Buddha will forgive me."

"But whether the Buddha will forgive those humanoid beasts, the old monk doesn’t know."

Chen Chengbi pointed at him and laughed heartily; the old monk touched his bald head and said with a smile, "A person like me, having lived such a life, holds no regrets. After death, I will surely go to the Western Paradise. Chen Chengbi, don’t slander me."

Chen Chengbi wasn’t concerned with such matters but only repeated the details of the martial contest.

Regarding this matter, Chen Chengbi only saw that Xu Huixiang was one Multi-story higher than Li Guanyi.

Having been taught by a Grandmaster of the sword from a young age and being older than Li Guanyi, he wasn’t worried about Li Guanyi losing, but that Li Guanyi might not be able to have a proper fight with Xu Huixiang and enjoy a beautifully executed combat.

Don’t lose right at the start.

Yet, the old monk saw more; this was a factional struggle between the Royal Family and the Crown Prince, even involving the Martial World. Many people from the Martial World were present, and this fight was bound to become well-known. Recalling his own youth, the old monk, smiling, nodded and chided Chen Chengbi:

"Good, good, they have a General, and you’re pulling in an old monk?"

The old monk shook his head, picked up a tree branch and said, "Although I don’t know swordsmanship, the higher levels of Martial Arts all lead to the same goal. In my lifetime, I’ve seen many famed swordsmen flash through the Martial World, so I might as well give it a try."

"They also brought a General. If it’s about connections and karma, the young monk and I have a connection."

"I, too, want to see if you can truly sever those intricate bonds."

The old monk chuckled, lifted the tree branch in his hand, and casually attacked Li Guanyi.

It was just a single strike, but it seemed as if all things in the world were converging. Li Guanyi’s pupils constricted; he suddenly retreated to the edge of the cliff behind him. Chen Chengbi had found an unsharpened Battle Halberd from somewhere and threw it to Li Guanyi.

Li Guanyi said, "Please forgive my offense," as he charged at the old monk with the halberd.

The living Buddha maintained the speed of the Third Layer.

Li Guanyi hadn’t opened his Eye Acupoint.

He could only see afterimages, which is why Second Layer Martial Artists find it difficult to combat those from the Third Layer; the opponent’s speed is too fast, making it hard for the Second Layer to even capture the trajectory of the attacks. Perhaps those who merely sought a breakthrough and paid no heed to the Eye Acupoint, an ordinary Second Layer could hold their own.

But Xu Huixiang was not like that.

He was definitely among the strongest in the Third Layer.

Yet, Li Guanyi, having been honed by General Xue, could only see the afterimages of the tree branch, but he predicted in advance and ferociously thrust his halberd, his robust physique increasing the speed of the Battle Halberd, tearing through the air with a dull whoosh.

The Battle Halberd precisely struck the tree branch.

But with a slight tremor, the branch could deflect the halberd. Chen Chengbi clapped and laughed in appreciation, the living Buddha nodded in surprise, and then attacked again. Li Guanyi swung his halberd like a dragon and a tiger, and even though he could only see afterimages, he could preemptively strike based on his predictions, blocking the path swept by the blade.

Chen Chengbi kept praising, "Very good, very good."

"Interesting, interesting, let me join!"

Grasping at the air, he formed a sword from the gathered Qi, then charged at Li Guanyi, who immediately felt increased pressure. The Battle Halberd went from an initial level position to a strategic encirclement style, a tactic for wielding the halberd defensively yet filled with skillful changes.

General Xue had evaluated that mastering this style could subdue all others.

Fiercely tackling two opponents, the pressure increasingly intensified; Li Guanyi said, "Elder, I’m fighting the master here, your joining in is too much pressure."

Chen Chengbi only laughed, saying, "Interesting, interesting!"

Li Guanyi, fueled by his combat spirit, roared and gripping the Battle Halberd with both hands, suddenly shook it, unleashing the Absolute Skill. With the power of the Dragon and Tiger, he burst forth, forcing Chen Chengbi to cry out and scramble back; even the living Buddha retreated.
