Chapter 312: Chapter 140: Martial Competition Begins, The Phoenix Ceremony_3

Ye Buyi furrowed his brow, and everyone turned to look.

A young man strode forward with spirited eyes and a robust build, exuding a strong and virile aura.

Ye Buyi whispered, "Yuwen Family, Yuwen Hua."

His gaze was bright, and he locked eyes with Li Guanyi.

Yuwen Hua grinned:

"So you’re the one, bold enough to obstruct my uncle’s carriage, a mere Imperial Guard? "

"A lowly Imperial Guard, a doorkeeper, dares to disrespect a Divine General who gallops across battlefields? Deserves to be beaten to death!"

His aura soared like a ferocious tiger. Laughing loudly, he advanced towards Li Guanyi with purposeful strides. With each step, his momentum grew stronger by threefold, as if to shake the earth and move mountains, while Ye Buyi’s expression grew more solemn as he gripped his weapon.

Yuwen Hua was twenty-three, nine years older than Li Guanyi and five years older than Ye Buyi.

Five years of nurturing by a top-tier Divine General was a huge gulf.

He was of the third layer, already able to lead troops into battle.

Accompanied by the sound of swords being drawn, Ye Buyi and Zhou Liuying stepped forward in unison, withdrawing their weapons from their waists.

Yuwen Hua, originally aiming to test Li Guanyi’s mettle, suddenly felt a trace of sword sound. His steps faltered as he turned to look at the crowd. Among them, a clear-eyed young man in white clothes stood with closed eyes, a smile on his face, and a wooden sword at his waist.

"...The Sword Saint’s grandson, Xu Huixiang."

Xu Huixiang smiled and said, "General Yuwen, regardless, this is Jiangzhou City."

"Here, raising a hand against the Imperial Guard, might that be inappropriate?"

Yuwen Hua laughed, "The Sword Saint’s grandson, an unrivaled genius of the third layer at eighteen, unmatched in Sword Dao, I too want to see if your Martial World’s sword, can indeed penetrate our Military School’s armor."

Xu Huixiang replied, "A sword isn’t just a tool for fighting and bullying."

A voice asked, "Are the swords from the Central Plains just decorative objects?"

Xu Huixiang turned, smiling, and saw a rugged young man approaching with confident strides, clad in heavy armor and with an imposing gaze like a Gray Wolf. He was the Centurion of the Iron Futu from the grasslands, of the third layer, the Young Master of the Geshu Tribe, Geshu Yin, looking up provocatively at him.

In the Military School’s ranks of War Generals, all the Fierce and Fighting Generals excel at provocation.

The goal is to enrage the opponent and thus to break the enemy more easily.

That’s why many scholars end up hopping mad, eventually flushing with rage and cursing "vulgar Martial Artists".

There have been battles where opposing Fighting Generals would challenge each other and hurl insults in front of the battle lines.

"Recognize me by my call?"

"Who is it?"

"The Great General Wan Hanyu!"

"What swine or dog?"

One sentence could be enough to shatter a Taoist Heart.

Yuwen Hua, Xu Huixiang, and Geshu Yin, the three of them only had eyes for each other.

The crowd also discussed that though there were many participants in this martial contest,

the victor was likely to be among these three.

All were renowned individuals from the younger generation.

Li Guanyi shifted his gaze away, watching Chen Yuyun from the Imperial Guard. He also watched Li Guanyi, concealing his Qi Fortune. Slowly, it receded back to Li Guanyi, although it was not as abundant as the first encounter.

Chen Yuyun seemed stronger than before.

Under the dedicated nurturing of Emperor Chen, he was nearly reaching the third layer at just fourteen.

Li Guanyi could feel the bronze tripod’s yearning for the Jade on Chen Yuyun’s body.

The bronze tripod wailed.

Chen Yuyun controlled himself, avoiding Li Guanyi’s gaze, but he still caught a glimpse in the corner of his eye. He felt stifled and annoyed when he saw that Li Guanyi seemed indifferent to him. Why? Why was he so concerned with the other, treating him as a rival, while the other clearly didn’t care about him at all?

Then he saw Zhou Liuying’s exaggerated expression, standing askew.

Then leaning in close, Zhou gently slapped his own face,

with an expression begging to be punched.

Ye Buyi couldn’t contain himself.

Chen Yuyun’s face became rigid, his grip tightening on the sword hilt, his teeth grinding fiercely until he exhales sharply, hate surging in his heart. He vowed to settle this grudge when he came into power!

Li Guanyi and the Xue Family’s young mistress had been as close as family, and he vowed to take her for himself.

For some reason, he felt a strong compulsion to seize everyone around that youth.

He imagined countless ways to humiliate and slaughter Li Guanyi, dragging him to death behind a horse, burying him as a human stick with limbs cut off in a manure pit to be devoured by maggots, or throwing him into a red-hot tripod to be burned alive.

He remembered his childhood, breaking the legs of his neighbor’s puppy.

He gripped a kitten’s neck until the agonized animal struggled to lick him, meowing pitifully. When he released it, the kitten gasped for air yet still rubbed against his hand. Then he strangled the kitten until it died in agony, reduced to a lifeless lump.

He had been enraged that his own kitten had dared lick his sister’s palm.

Chen Yuyun, looking at Li Guanyi, offered a cordial smile and said, "Regarding yesterday’s incident..."

His smile froze.

Li Guanyi didn’t look at him, walking away with Ye Buyi and Zhou Liuying instead.

The murderous intent in Chen Yuyun’s eyes was almost uncontrollable.

Zhou Liuying turned back, gesturing by slapping his own cheek and then bursting into loud laughter.

Chen Yuyun, in contrast, began to smile, his desire to kill now fully kindled.

When Li Guanyi returned to the Xue Family’s residence, a guest had already been waiting for a long time, Li Zhaowen. She turned to look at Li Guanyi and said, "Mr. Li has been rather busy, making me wait quite some time."

She tossed an item to Li Guanyi and smiled:

"Mission accomplished."

"Phoenix Perch."

"It’s yours now."
