Chapter 190: Chapter 192: Bing’er Smiles
The Immortal Ancient Academy, the highest institution of learning in the Mortal World, has always been the most sacred and transcendent existence within it. If a minor family could have a student join the Immortal Ancient Academy, that family’s status would immediately rise.
After all, students from the Immortal Ancient Academy invariably achieve success, and after graduation, they are either courted by the great empires or competed for by various sects.
Moreover, the academy, through generations of construction, could rightly be described as impregnable.
The entire city has formed a multilayered array to protect the Immortal Ancient Academy from external attacks.
No one knows why the powerfully established Immortal Ancient Academy would have such a massive array.
Only the upper echelons here understand that not only is the academy’s outer city an array, but also a colossal seal. What is terrifying is that no one knows what exactly lies sealed beneath the Immortal Ancient Academy.
And they cannot imagine what sort of thing requires such a vast city to seal, especially in a place within the Mortal World where the spiritual energy is richly concentrated.
"Who are you?" The gate, which was never closed before, is now guarded.
The two responsible for guarding the gate are students of the academy, and they are currently asking Mu Can with a cold voice.
Because, apart from the Demon Clan, the people from the Immortal World and those from Hidden Families have no distinguishing features from the main populace of the Mortal World, and their attitudes are still unclear. Therefore, for the protection of the academy, access control has been set at the entrance.
"I am Mu Can." Mu Can replied loudly, returning here, he actually felt like he was coming home.
"Mu Can? Never heard of him." The two students guarding the gate hadn’t heard of Mu Can.
Mu Can shook his head helplessly; it seems he had been away from the Immortal Ancient Academy for far too long – so long that people no longer recognized him.
"I am the disciple of Vice Dean Xuanyuan Mingkong; please report that Mu Can has returned." Left with no choice, Mu Can had to resort to name-dropping Xuanyuan Mingkong.
The people inside have not heard of Mu Can, but the name Xuanyuan Mingkong was like a thunderclap. Hearing that he was the disciple of the famous academy’s Mingkong, someone hastily ran to verify and, upon confirming that it was indeed Mu Can, they opened the gates and let him in.
"So you are senior brother Mu Can. Please come in." Those students guarding the gate changed their attitude completely; it’s common knowledge that Vice Dean Xuanyuan Mingkong’s status in the academy needs no explanation, and as his disciple, they knew Mu Can must be quite a remarkable person.
"How is the situation in the city now?" Mu Can asked, as the city’s current situation is his most pressing concern.
"Reporting to senior brother, the academy is currently negotiating with the eight major Hidden Families. The academy hopes they can help us survive this calamity, but the situation is not very promising," replied the junior student guarding the gate, shaking his head.
The eight major Hidden Families have actually all come? Mu Can didn’t expect that after just learning about these families, he would have the chance to meet them so soon, and moreover, on his old turf of the Immortal Ancient Academy.
In a place where Mu Can could not see, another disciple who was guarding the gate cautiously ran off to the side, as if to pass on a message to someone.
"Daddy, that person just now has ill-intentions," said Bing’er in a whisper near Mu Can. Tree people naturally sense others’ goodwill or malice, and he felt that the person who had sneaked away harbored hostility towards Mu Can, prompting him to voice a warning.
Mu Can narrowed his eyes; it seems to be Donghuang’s people. Donghuang is indeed not giving up on me, Mu Can laughed, not taking the opponent seriously. He is now a Martial Venerate in strength, and since he did not seek revenge from Donghuang immediately, why would he care about Donghuang coming after him?
"Alright, go on with your duties; I’ll head straight to the academy myself."
The Immortal Ancient Academy is right in the center of the city, and this is also where these students usually attend their classes. Even at the most chaotic times in the Mortal World, the classes here have not stopped for a moment.
As the direct disciple of Xuanyuan Mingkong, Mu Can went straight to Xuanyuan Mingkong’s residence without any hindrance. Usually, Old Hu, Bing’er, and others would live and study here.
This is one of the great benefits of being a direct disciple; being able to follow the master closely is how one truly learns more.
First, Mu Can found a place to settle the Mad Old Man and Mu Zi’ang before heading to Xuanyuan Mingkong’s residence alone.
"Is anyone there? Is anyone there? I’m back!"
As soon as Mu Can entered, he shouted loudly, followed by a clatter of footsteps.
"Can brother, I’ve missed you!" Old Hu rushed up and gave Mu Can a big bear hug.
"Can brother," Mu Yuhang greeted him, with tears swirling in his eyes. The Mortal World had undergone dramatic changes, and he didn’t know how worried he had been about Mu Can, afraid that he might be in danger outside.
"Sister Bing’er," Mu Can softly greeted Bing’er as she came out.
He now had a new appreciation for this low-key junior sister because, after meeting Bing’er’s brother Zhang Baobao, he gained a deeper understanding of the Zhang Family’s strength.
"Good day, senior brother Mu Can, Bing’er greets you," she said properly with a bow.
"I met your brother recently outside; we traveled together for a while," Mu Can said with a smile.
He quite admired Zhang Baobao.
"Yes, senior brother. I heard about it from my brother. I’ve never seen him admire someone so much, but I can feel his great admiration for you," Bing’er smiled.
The obese young and the older fat man’s eyes widened in surprise, as they had never seen Bing’er smile before spending so much time with her.
"Sister Bing’er, did you smile just now?" The younger fatty asked in disbelief.
Then he pinched Old Hu hard.
"What are you doing?" cried Old Hu in pain.
"I wanted to check if I was dreaming," said the young fatty.
"Why don’t you pinch yourself; why pinch me?" Old Hu rubbed his waist and said in a low voice.
"Pinching myself hurts too much. I pinched you, and you didn’t get hurt, right?"
From the reactions of these two fatties, it’s evident how difficult it is for Bing’er to smile.
"Did you see? Sister Bing’er, you should smile more often, you look most beautiful when you do," Mu Can spoke up.
Seeing Bing’er blushing and caught off-guard, he quickly continued: "Can you guys first tell me about the situation at the Immortal Ancient Academy; I came straight here after leaving Jue Ming Valley."
