Chapter 165: Chapter 167 Demon Summoning Array

Mu Can and his group entered the city, and the silence in Mingyang City was inexplicable; not a single living person could be seen inside. It was as if everyone had vanished.

"Dad, let’s be careful. I have a feeling that something’s off here. It’s eerie," Benben said cautiously.

Not a single figure could be seen throughout the city. It was enveloped in a terrifying atmosphere. Mu Can and his companions surveyed the surroundings, finding the city dead silent as if life had ceased. Yet, a faint smell of blood lingered.

What on earth had happened to this city? Mu Can pondered.

Just as they entered the city, a figure swiftly passed by. Wuchang followed closely behind and, upon reaching a corner, the figure disappeared without a trace. It was a residence, a household in the city.

At the moment, the house’s doors were tightly shut, showing no sign that someone had entered.

Mu Can broke in, but immediately halted in his tracks.

As soon as he entered the courtyard, he was shocked by the sight before him. In the center of the yard, over thirty bodies were neatly arranged. Among them were not only the elderly but also children, and all were without their heads.

Who could be so cruel to wipe out an entire family like this?

Something strange was afoot. Mu Can thought and stepped back outside to investigate the other yards along the street.

Just as Mu Can had expected, almost all of the large estates in the city were full of bodies, all without heads.

Such a large Mingyang City had now become a city of death, with not a single survivor. All had been beheaded.

Who the hell did this, with such a cruel method that it chills one’s spine?

There were no signs of battle outside the city’s walls, so it couldn’t have been caused by barbarian invaders.

Something strange must have happened in this city, leading to not a single person surviving throughout the entire city.

It was too brutal, considering that Mingyang City was home to hundreds of thousands of people.

Mu Can returned to the yard where the shadow was first seen, his instinct telling him that the figure he saw was definitely not an illusion.

It seems that when I was away from the Mortal World, something must’ve happened to the Nanyuan Empire. Mu Can’s heart tightened as his family was still within the Nanyuan Empire.

Mu Can examined the bodies arranged in the courtyard and found that the headless corpses were laid out in a certain pattern, with the blood flowing out from the severed necks pooling beneath them, forming a huge pattern.

"Cloud Sister, can you help me see what this pattern signifies?" Mu Can called out.

Purple Cloud emerged from the Reincarnation Pearl, looking at the bizarre pattern under the corpses, she frowned slightly.

"This is a Demon Summoning Array," said Purple Cloud.

A Demon Summoning Array is a malicious array, using the sacrifice of lives to communicate with the Demon World. However, even if it can communicate with the Demon World, no Demon Cultivator from the Demon World would choose to descend to the Mortal World in this manner unless it was a matter of life and death.

Because this kind of array is too damaging to the heavens, every Demon Cultivator arriving in this manner from the Demon World will invariably go through the Mortal World’s most formidable Heavenly Tribulation, with a slim chance of survival.

Purple Cloud flew high into the sky, looking down at the entire Mingyang City. After a brief investigation, she descended, her brows furrowing even deeper.

A top master of the Demon World ascended to the Mortal World.

Now, the entire Mingyang City is a massive Demon Summoning Array, made up of thousands of these smaller arrays.

"I hope the Mortal World can hold on." Purple Cloud shook her head. The Demon Clan expert capable of setting up such a grand summoning array was already on par with an Immortal Venerable. A demon cultivator with the strength of a Demon Lord was simply the Mortal World’s nightmare.

However, how could such a powerful expert from the Demon World descend into the Mortal World? Purple Cloud couldn’t figure it out.

"They must be killed." Mu Can’s face was flushed red. This large city with hundreds of thousands of people had become mere material for the summoning array.

These were all living beings. Among the corpses laid out before them were small children who had just learned to walk, as well as the elderly. All neatly decapitated and their heads piled up here.

"Heartless and insane." Mu Zi’ang’s face was also gloomy. He had taken lives before, but he had never touched ordinary people who were defenseless like this; such actions were thoroughly those of the Demon Path.

"No matter who it is, I am determined to kill you." Even though Mu Can didn’t feel a strong sense of belonging to the Nanyuan Empire, it was still his homeland. Now that his homeland had suffered such violence, it had severely crossed Mu Can’s bottom line.

"The Barbarian Plains." Mu Can looked far into the distance at the Barbarian Plains. He felt that the Barbarian Plains might have also experienced misfortune. The scent of blood he had sensed on the plains earlier was very likely not left from a battle, but from a massacre.

"Yun jie, take Xiao Hong and help me investigate the Barbarian Plains. I’ll look for that black shadow from earlier."

Mu Can forcibly suppressed the rage in his heart. This vengeance must be avenged, but what needed to be done now was to find out exactly what had happened.

"Be careful." Purple Cloud knew the priorities, taking Xiao Hong and instantly flying toward the Barbarian Plains.

Mu Can observed the summoning array made up of corpses when the black shadow flashed by again.

"Where do you think you’re going?" Mu Can decisively took action, and Mu Zi’ang also joined the attack towards the black shadow.

The two attacks struck the black shadow one after the other, hitting it and forcing it to fall to the ground, moaning in pain.

The wrathful attacks of Mu Can and Mu Zi’ang were powerful enough to severely injure even a Martial Venerate.

Approaching slowly, the hit black shadow writhed on the ground in agony, revealing its face from under the hat.

"A cultivator from the Mortal World." A chill went down Mu Can’s spine, in this dead city, an eerily strange cultivator from the Mortal World appeared.

"Who are you?" Mu Can asked coldly, underneath the cloak was an old man who looked very unkempt.

"Who am I? Who am I? They’re all dead; all dead." The unkempt old man seemed to be out of his senses, repeating the same thing over and over when he heard Mu Can’s question.

"They’re all dead, all dead." The old man’s emotions exploded in an instant, and as he sat up from the ground, a phantom of a bright sun unexpectedly appeared behind him.

"Martial Saint." Mu Can took in a sharp breath.

What exactly had he experienced, that even a Martial Saint, the strongest combatant of the Mortal World, would become so utterly insane?

"You’re not dead, run, run, child." The crazed old man stared straight at Mu Can, crying and laughing loudly as he shouted.

His face wore a deranged smile, but tears streamed down his eyes.

"Run, there’s something wrong with this city." Purple Cloud returned swiftly with Xiao Hong. She grabbed Mu Can and Mu Zi’ang onto Xiao Hong’s back, ready to fly out of Mingyang City. As Mu Can flew onto Xiao Hong’s back, he also pulled up the old man.

"Why are there so many living people, you must run!" The frenzied old man cried and laughed loudly as he shouted.

"Fly quickly."

Without the need for Purple Cloud’s reminder, Xiao Hong felt a tremendous chill enveloping its body, as if mustering all its strength, it flew rapidly towards the outskirts of the city.
