Paranoid Doctor Only Loves Me -
Chapter 610 - 567: Old Madam Su’s Test (Part 1)
Chapter 610: Chapter 567: Old Madam Su’s Test (Part 1)
With Tang Su present, Zhao Xinlan no longer treated Old Madam Su with the mentality she reserved for a Hongmen Banquet.
After entering, Su Yangming placed the things bought by Zhao Xinlan in the living room and called out, "Mom."
"Auntie, I apologize for disturbing you," said Zhao Xinlan politely yet not ingratiatingly.
"It’s not a disturbance; I’m very happy that you could come," Old Madam Su nodded.
In the house, there were just the four of them, plus Longliu. Old Madam Su knew that Longliu was the bodyguard Lu Han had found for Tang Su; this bodyguard offered 24-hour personal protection for Tang Su, which meant that Longliu could not be sent away.
"Thank you."
"Take a seat; what tea would you like to drink?"
"Just some boiled water," Zhao Xinlan said, as she didn’t have the habit of drinking tea before dinner.
"I’ll get it, Grandma," Tang Su volunteered before Old Madam Su could ask the servants to pour the boiled water and went to the kitchen herself.
She prepared a cup of plain hot water and added a suitable amount of honey to it.
Tang Su placed the honey water of just the right sweetness in front of Zhao Xinlan, and they shared a smile.
Old Madam Su sat erect on the single sofa chair, looking at Zhao Xinlan, "Xinlan, it’s only now that your auntie understands; my son has liked you for so many years. If I had known about his feelings earlier, I would have asked Ruowan to bring you two together long ago."
"However, after all these twists and turns over the years, you are now divorced and have returned to being single. You love each other, and as a mother, I’m actually quite happy that my son could find a woman he likes to spend the rest of his life with."
"Thank you, Auntie," Zhao Xinlan nodded, echoing at the right moment.
She knew that Old Madam Su definitely had more to say.
Sure enough, Old Madam Su directly stated her purpose, "The Su Family’s offspring are few and far between. Currently, there is only Su Yu, the sole male grandchild. The second child is disappointing and only provided one offspring."
"Tell me, I gave birth to five children with your late great-uncle. When it comes to them, we may have many great-grandsons and great-granddaughters, but when it comes to grandchildren, we have only Su Yu. Xinlan, your auntie has no other wish; I just hope that after you marry into our family, you’ll give the Su Family another child, even a granddaughter would do. What do you think?"
"Mom—" Su Yangming caught on to what his mother wanted to say, yet he couldn’t interrupt because she spoke so rapidly, and Zhao Xinlan was holding him back, not letting him cut off his mother’s words.
"Actually, I’ve always wanted to have my own child, especially now that An’an has such well-behaved twin sons and a daughter, Fengfeng and Tang Bao, which makes me want to have a child of my own even more."
"Auntie, I think we share the same view on this, but whether I can give birth isn’t something I can decide alone. However, I will try my best."
"Let’s wait for the result of the trial, and then we can discuss your marriage. Now it’s the new era, and even this old lady should keep up with the times, don’t you think?"
"Grandma—" Tang Su could hardly believe that her grandma could say such a thing.
What does it mean to keep up with the times?
Zhao Xinlan laughed, "Tang Bao, it’s okay."
"Godmother." Tang Su felt for Zhao Xinlan.
"Auntie, be assured, it really is a new era. Whether I have my own children in this lifetime doesn’t matter to me. If I don’t have them, it means I’m not fortunate enough. But if I do, they won’t bear the Su surname."
"You..." Old Madam Su was also surprised; Zhao Xinlan was unexpectedly resolute.
Deep down, she still disapproved of Zhao Xinlan somewhat. Why should her son settle for Zhao Xinlan, a rotten tree, when he had better options? Moreover, she wanted to see just how deep Zhao Xinlan’s affection for her son could go.
Yet having learned from her failed marriage with Jiang Tao, Zhao Xinlan also realized a truth: the way she used to love Jiang Tao was utterly wrong.
When you love someone, the first thing you cannot lose is yourself.
Otherwise, even deep love will disappear.
If she remains herself, and the person who kept saying he loved her suddenly stops loving her because of that, then that person isn’t worth her love anymore.
"By the way, I have something else to do, I won’t be having dinner with your family, I’m going to leave now."
Zhao Xinlan stood up and was about to leave.
Su Yangming glared at his mother and then followed Zhao Xinlan out.
"Grandma, I thought you..."
Tang Su didn’t bother to finish her sentence. If someone had lived up to this point and still hadn’t figured things out, then whatever she said would be useless, wouldn’t it?
Without wasting any more breath, Tang Su also found an excuse to leave.
Outside, Su Yangming was about to get in the car to leave with Zhao Xinlan. She locked the car door and said, "Listen to me, stay home and have dinner with your mother tonight."
"Lanlan—" Su Yangming was reluctant. His mother had hurt Zhao Xinlan like that, and he was supposed to dine with her? He wasn’t in the mood for that.
"Be good." Zhao Xinlan persuaded him, then saw Tang Su following behind, "Tang Bao has come out, let her keep me company for dinner. You go home and accompany your mother."
"..."
"Yangming, she’s not just your mother, she’s An’an’s mother too. Besides, she was just released from the hospital not long ago. As an elderly person with poor health, just indulge her a bit."
"Indulge her? Are you saying you don’t want to marry me?" Su Yangming raised an eyebrow.
Zhao Xinlan smiled, poked her head out the window, hooked Su Yangming’s neck, and in front of Tang Su, gave him a deep kiss, "How could that be? If your mother agrees, we can just have a simple ceremony. If she doesn’t, we’ll just get the certificate and go on a trip. Either way is fine, right?"
"To be frank, your mother is not young anymore. Can she outlast me? Besides, you’ve given me such self-confidence, so go back and accompany her."
"..."
Only then did Su Yangming realize what was on Zhao Xinlan’s mind, and he felt much reassured.
"Alright, Tang Bao, keep your aunt company. Dinner’s on me," said Su Yangming to Tang Su.
"... Got it."
Tang Su had thought Zhao Xinlan would be upset, but it turned out her godmother had such a clear understanding.
That put her at ease.
She hoped that her grandmother would come to realize things sooner. Otherwise, because of her godmother, her grandma might not only lose a son but also her daughter-in-law and their entire family.
After Tang Su got into the car, Su Yangming watched the two of them drive away before turning back and entering the house.
Once inside, Old Madam Su was surprised to see her son return.
She had thought that since her son had run off with that woman, Zhao Xinlan, he would never come back to bother with her, his mother, again.
In just the past few minutes, she had made up her mind. If Su Yangming didn’t return, she would pack her things and move to a nursing home.
After all, among her five children, the eldest was unreliable. The second one was henpecked; it would be okay to stay a few days, but any longer would lead to being unwanted.
The third was dependable, but unfortunately, she had no face to live with them.
The fourth and his spouse were both busy with work, and living with them would be no different from staying in a nursing home.
So, she might as well go straight to the nursing home.
