"What’s the matter, Tang Bao? Why do you look like you’re about to cry? I’m fine, don’t cry," Lin Jiaojiao comforted her with a smile as she saw Tang Su’s eyes were red and her look pitiable.
"Tang Su, you’re about to be a bride, don’t cry, there’s a good girl," Lu Zhu also began to console her.
"Is the wedding day approaching?" Lin Jiaojiao asked, she had lost track of how long she had been in the hospital—every ordeal left her feeling as drained as if her body was depleted.
There were many things she couldn’t pay attention to or remember, the after-effects were severe.
"Half a month left," Lu Zhu said.
"Time flies indeed."
"It’s not that time’s fast, it’s that Lu Han moved the wedding forward by a month," Lu Zhu explained.
"Oh, right, it should be moved up. If I were Lu Han, I’d wish I could hold the wedding tomorrow and then announce it to the whole world," Lin Jiaojiao thought of Elder Tan in the room next door, only now realizing just how brief the time for two people in love could be.
So brief that what you think is a whole lifetime could be over in an instant.
So, love well while you can.
Tang Su blushed, "On the day of the wedding, Professor Ming..."
"Shh, careful, the walls have ears," Lu Zhu suddenly stopped Tang Su’s straightforwardness.
Tang Su seemed to remember something, glanced cautiously towards the surveillance area, then covered her mouth, "Sorry, sis, I almost let it slip."
"It’s okay."
The three women quickly steered the conversation away from that topic, and what followed were the kind of gossips and jokes that women would typically share when they get together, with Tang Su telling many jokes to amuse Lin Jiaojiao and Lu Zhu.
At that moment, a nurse in the surveillance room edited the minute-long video of Lu Zhu’s hushing, saved it, and then forwarded it.
What the nurse didn’t expect was that Lu Han and Bai Dingxian were watching the entire scene in another, larger surveillance room.
Lu Han raised an eyebrow, "Is this the ’no issues with our hospital staff’ you’ve been telling me about?"
Feeling a flush on his face, Bai Dingxian immediately admitted his oversight, "I’m sorry, I was careless."
He had let his guard down because it had never occurred to him that such an incident could happen to Lin Jiaojiao and Elder Tan, not to mention the existence of a secret organization aiming to turn Beijing into a living hell.
Lin Menmen only wished to control Elder Tan and Lin Jiaojiao, perhaps even dominate the Lin and Tan families; her scheme was merely to play a few individuals.
However, the mastermind behind the secret organization that Lin Menmen was part of had much bigger plans—they aimed to turn an entire city into their playground.
Professor Ming was the nemesis of this secret organization’s leader, and to further their game, they had sent someone to assassinate Professor Ming.
Professor Ming was in danger.
To divert some of the organization’s resources, Lu Han had no choice but to move the wedding up.
Lu Han naturally didn’t blame him, as he himself had not been completely honest with Bai Dingxian before, fearing that the latter couldn’t handle the truth.
Yet, as it turned out, men have a surprising capacity for endurance one wouldn’t normally envision.
When Bai Dingxian learned that their city housed a mysterious organization aiming to manipulate people with obscure powers at their fingertips, he instantly straightened up like a warrior.
As long as Lu Han needed him, he could tackle any target pointed out.
But to him, those so-called secret organizations were nothing more than creatures akin to snakes and rats, creatures afraid of the light. Otherwise, why would they conduct their affairs so covertly?
"Let’s not rush, find someone trustworthy to follow this nurse," Lu Han said, stopping Bai Dingxian, who was ready to confront the nurse.
Now was not the time to alarm the enemy prematurely.
One could say that the performance by his wife and sister was good, looking incredibly convincing on screen. No wonder the nurse, after staying calm for so many days, finally couldn’t resist taking action today.
Otherwise, they still wouldn’t know who was passing information for those people.
"But now I’m not sure, apart from myself, who else in our hospital is trustworthy?"
"Don’t worry, I have someone trustworthy."
Then, Longyi received a new mission.
Longyi was going crazy inside. He really suspected that he wasn’t the Sect Leader of Longmen’s most capable lieutenant at all. Being used by Lu Han all this time, he was almost turning into a private detective.
What was more, the person who was making use of his talents for other purposes was Lu Han. Every time he complained to Long Siyan about Lu Han’s actions, Long Siyan would gently soothe him, advising him to avoid arrogance and impatience, that the future Sect Leader of Longmen needed to have the same steady temperament as her elder brother.
She even said that Lu Han was cultivating him for Longmen.
What else could Longyi say?
With both the Sect Leader and the young lady supporting Lu Han’s methods, he could only go along with them.
Lu Han sent the nurse’s photo to Longyi, his request was the same as before when he had asked him to track and record Lin Menmen.
Longyi was very capable; during the days he followed Lin Menmen, she did not notice him at all.
After waiting for so many days, finally, upon receiving a sliver of special information, Lu Han sent a message to Tang Su to praise her, "I’ve got results on my end, but we still need to wait. Do you want me to come pick you up now, or would you like to spend more time with Jiaojiao?"
"Let’s spend more time with Jiaojiao."
Lu Han sent ambiguous messages, also worried that someone might have installed those powerful, undetectable surveillance devices in Lin Jiaojiao’s hospital room.
He had to take such precautions.
Technology was powerful, and many things made public were just child’s play.
"Okay, I’ll come to pick you up in half an hour."
"Hmm."
"Lu Han, huh?" Lu Zhu asked.
"Yeah, he said he would come to pick me up in half an hour. We still need to go to Duoduo’s place to select photos."
"If you’re in a hurry, why not go now?" Lu Zhu and Lin Jiaojiao said in unison.
Selecting wedding photos, that’s a big deal.
Tang Su shook her head, "It’s okay, I’ll stay for another half-hour."
Lin Jiaojiao wanted to say something else, but Lu Zhu persuaded, "Don’t try to convince her, let her stay a bit longer."
**
In Elder Tan’s hospital room next door.
Madam Tan called the nurse, "I want to transfer my son to another hospital, and you still refuse. What, don’t we parents have that right now?"
"No, madam, we nurses can’t decide on patient transfers. I will contact our Director Lu for you right away, please wait patiently."
"Alright, go call him."
Madam Tan wasn’t afraid to see Lu Han at all.
Seeing Lin Menmen, Elder Tan’s gaze was burning with intensity; however, Lin Menmen leaned in, and Elder Tan refused her touch with the excuse that he didn’t know what sickness he had or whether it could be contagious.
Lin Menmen didn’t mind, though.
After all, this was the first time she had seen the effects of the Poisonous Insect so swift.
When she had used it on Tan Rongrong before, despite many years, she had never seen results. The High Priest had said that everything must come slowly, otherwise, it could easily backfire.
Basically, impatience wouldn’t get her anywhere fast.
Ten minutes later, Lu Han, dressed in a white lab coat, appeared in the hospital room.
