Chapter 553: 516 Please show some respect to my wife (2 updates)
Lin Jiaojiao saw him out, ready to help him hail a cab.
But as soon as they stepped out of Xinghua Hall, Lin Wenming, the eldest son of the Lin Family’s car, pulled up at the entrance of Xinghua Hall, where the security was persuading the visitor to leave. Lin Wenming explained he was there to pick someone up, and the other person promptly descended.
Following that, Lin Wenming caught sight of Elder Tan and Lin Jiaojiao.
Having not seen Jiaojiao for many years, Lin Wenming felt no sibling affection for her, especially as in recent years she recklessly pursued Elder Tan with an indiscrete lifestyle, which he found particularly intolerable.
She had thoroughly embarrassed their Lin Family.
The Lin Family didn’t care much about Tan Rongrong’s poisoning, but Rongrong was the ace in hand against Elder Tan, and the perfect weapon to snatch a man back from Jiaojiao’s clutches.
Therefore, the Lin Family still regarded Tan Rongrong importantly.
There was no helping it, after all, Elder Tan valued her highly.
Seeing Lin Wenming, Elder Tan was dismissive, "Why have you come?"
Not even glancing at Lin Jiaojiao, naturally, she offered no greeting of ’big brother’ to him.
Even if they were related by blood, Lin Wenming had always doted on Lin Menmen, his sister; it was they who truly shared a deep sibling bond.
Lin Jiaojiao, for her part, was indifferent to that.
The Lin Family’s opinion of her didn’t matter; she felt the same towards them.
The only reason she still visited was because of the ancient allure of Beijing and the fact that Elder Tan had grown up here.
It had nothing to do with the Lin Family.
"Menmen asked me to come pick you up, and I happened to be dining nearby with friends," Lin Wenming gave a casual excuse, after all, Elder Tan wouldn’t bother to verify it.
"Jiaojiao, I will go check on her, and I’ll call you later," Elder Tan told Lin Jiaojiao.
"Sure, go ahead," Lin Jiaojiao nodded, smiling captivatingly.
To Lin Wenming, that smile was just another sign of her constant flirting.
The Lin Family disliked Lin Jiaojiao because after she was abducted and discarded by human traffickers, somehow she ended up in the hands of a hair-washer who had led a similarly tough life. When the hair-washer found Jiaojiao, she took a liking to her. Despite living a precarious life herself, she was willing to take in Jiaojiao.
Jiaojiao was a fortunate little girl; ever since she was adopted by the hair-washer, the woman’s clientele improved and business boomed. The hair-washer, being studious, soon set up her own establishment, opening a barbershop.
Once Jiaojiao could run and jump, she helped out in her foster mother’s shop sweeping floors and washing towels.
When the Lin Family found her, Jiaojiao’s manners were rough, nothing like Lin Menmen’s cultured and polite demeanor. So even though they knew Jiaojiao was their biological child, by that time Jiaojiao was already considerably older, and a lot of her habits and character were well ingrained.
It would be extremely difficult to change her. Rather than bother with a daughter who didn’t seem to have a promising future, they preferred to continue cultivating their foster daughter. After all, what the Lin Family wanted was a daughter who could help them.
Besides, they had invested a lot of time and money in Lin Menmen, and nobody wanted to make a losing deal.
Thus, Lin Jiaojiao was taken back to the Lin Family’s home, where she was not treated well, while Lin Menmen received all kinds of lessons and attended private school—outwardly, she was the Lin Family’s esteemed and wealthy daughter.
As Lin Jiaojiao lived with the Lin Family, she had nothing, merely attending a regular high school. When Jiaojiao got into university, aside from basic tuition and living expenses, the Lin Family did not provide her with anything more.
Later on, Lin Jiaojiao didn’t ask them for tuition or living expenses. She worked part-time jobs to earn money. After graduating from university, like repaying a student loan, she returned all the money Lin Family had spent on her upbringing, with interest.
The greatest conflict with the Lin Family erupted when she met and fell in love with Elder Tan.
Since Tan Rongrong’s situation was critical, Elder Tan didn’t fuss about it and just got into Lin Wenming’s car. After they drove away, Lin Jiaojiao returned to the private room.
Lin Wenming drove for a while before he asked, "Elder Tan, after so many years, haven’t you had enough? Menmen has been waiting for you with Rongrong at home. She truly loves you. Aren’t you moved by her devotion to your Tan Family?"
"Just for a woman like Lin Jiaojiao, you’d abandon your wife and daughter, even disown your parents. Aren’t you afraid of people pointing at your backbone? And you still treasure a woman who doesn’t consider anything for you?"
Lin Wenming truly found it unbelievable.
Elder Tan chuckled coldly, "Lin Wenming, did you come to pick me up or to chastise me? If anyone should settle accounts with me, it certainly isn’t your turn."
"Don’t worry, these matters will be addressed when the time comes."
"Moreover, even if you don’t consider Jiaojiao as your sister, she is my wife. Please show some respect for my wife. What do you mean by ’a woman like that?’ Lin Wenming, if you can’t speak properly, then shut your mouth."
Lin Wenming: "..."
Knowing what Elder Tan was like, Lin Wenming had no choice but to shut up.
This issue had been argued over for years with no resolution. Menmen’s heart was set on Elder Tan, and she wanted no other man.
Just because of this, Lin Wenming felt especially sympathetic towards Menmen.
When you feel sympathy for one person, it’s natural to hate another.
Especially the one who caused Menmen pain.
"Your wife? Your wife’s name is Lin Menmen, not Lin Jiaojiao. Tan Lixin, has your head gone wrong?" Lin Wenming was genuinely angry.
In the past, everyone was young and foolish, and it was forgivable.
But now? Tan Lixin was nearly forty years old, right?
Still being so foolish, that was simply unforgivable.
"Stop the car—" Words were exchanged, and if it weren’t for the fact that he was concerned about Tan Rongrong, Elder Tan would not have wanted to get in Lin Wenming’s car at all.
Turns out this guy really thought he was something special, huh?
"I won’t stop. What are you trying to do?" Lin Wenming resisted Elder Tan. Elder Tan had had a bit to drink, and after many years of enduring and treating his own woman unfairly, he urgently needed an outlet for his frustration.
Elder Tan promptly reached out to snatch the steering wheel. The car swerved wildly on the road, puzzling the drivers behind, who immediately called the police.
Before the traffic police arrived, the car lost control and smashed directly into the curb.
It even knocked down a traffic light.
Lin Wenming’s head was injured, resulting in a large bump. Elder Tan reacted swiftly, using Lin Wenming as a human cushion, so he wasn’t injured, just in pain.
There was no helping it; after all, the car had lost control, and the impact was too severe. He was quick enough to avoid injury, but to feel no pain at all would be divine.
