Chapter 505: 468 Lu Han is the center of attention (2 updates)
"No need to save spots, Uncle Village Chief said all the kids stand at the front. Besides, those fireworks shoot up into the sky—just look up, and you’ll see them. You think this is like watching an outdoor movie?"
Grandpa Tang said with a smile to the little treasures.
With four generations under one roof, the elders were truly blessed.
Only after experiencing the joy of having grandchildren around their knees could one appreciate how delightful it was.
"Great-grandpa, we want some drinks."
"Sure, sure, drink up, I’ll buy them," he replied.
The drinks were served quickly along with skewers the kids loved.
The children cheered, eating with relish and bursting into laughter.
The adults were no different, it wasn’t every day that the whole family gathered together, and they always had endless topics to slowly savor.
If the children hadn’t been so eagerly anticipating the fireworks show arranged by Lu Han, today’s dinner could have lasted until nine or ten at night.
But going back to the village to watch the fireworks didn’t stop their chat; it was just a matter of changing the venue, that’s all.
Grandma Tang went to pay the bill—Grandpa had already agreed that the elders would cover today’s meal, so no one argued with them.
Lu Han was the star of the show, and everyone gathered around him to talk.
Seeing that all the attention was on Lu Han and Tang Su, there were just two girls in the Tang Family’s generation, one was Tang Su, the other was Tang Qiwen.
Tang Qiwen didn’t mind at all, after all, Lu Han was the new son-in-law of the Tang Family, and they were going to have a wedding next year. It was only natural for everyone to focus on them.
That year, when she and Hong Tao had their wedding, everyone paid them the same attention. Her aunt and uncle had even specially requested leave to attend her wedding.
So, she didn’t feel left out at all.
However, Lu Han was too outstanding, gifting Maotai as if it were nothing.
The price of a bottle of Maotai equaled a month’s salary for her husband, and even with her own store’s monthly revenue, she couldn’t afford two bottles of Maotai.
She worried about how Hong Tao would feel about this disparity.
Therefore, after leaving the restaurant, she deliberately lagged behind with Hong Tao, as their child had already run ahead with his little friends.
"What’s wrong? Are you feeling unhappy?" Before Tang Qiwen could speak up, Hong Tao took her hand and asked with concern.
"Not me, I’m worried you’re unhappy." Tang Qiwen shook her head, leaning against Hong Tao for comfort.
"Worried I’m unhappy? Why would I be unhappy?" Hong Tao asked with a smile.
"Because Lu Han is so outstanding. Look at him, gifting Grandpa Maotai without batting an eyelid." Tang Qiwen sighed. She didn’t envy Tang Su for marrying the well-off Lu Han, but she was afraid the gap between the sisters was growing larger.
"He did it to make Grandpa happy. Besides, I believe for Lu Han, his greatest fortune in life isn’t how much money he has, but that he married your sister."
"For me, it’s the same. Rich or not, marrying you is the greatest happiness of my life. Even if someone offered me a fortune to trade you, I wouldn’t. I only want you."
"Alright, no more pouting. I’m not the least bit upset, so don’t worry about me. Do you think I’ll find you poor because of this?"
"Of course not, we have enough money to spend. We have no mortgage, no car loan, no debts, we live in a nice little western-style house. You earn several thousand a month, I earn more than ten thousand, and our parents even subsidize us. Where are we poor?"
"We’re much better than most people, right?"
"Yeah, my wife’s ideas are always fresh. Oh, by the way, our hometown is really getting redeveloped." Hong Tao whispered the last part in Tang Qiwen’s ear, stealing a kiss on his wife’s red lips.
Tang Qiwen was utterly shocked, clutching Hong Tao’s arm tightly, "Really?"
It’s no wonder she was so shocked, the news of Hong Tao’s ancestral home facing demolition had been circulating for several years, and Hong Tao had made several trips back home just to sign documents.
After signing, it was just a matter of waiting, and in the end, there was nothing.
Hong Tao’s hometown was also a village, and the Hong family owned the largest plot of land in the village, which they usually leased out for others to cultivate, collecting rent in return.
Hong Tao’s father ran a local furniture factory, which brought in several hundred thousand yuan in revenue each year, and Tang Qiwen’s mother-in-law was a standard housewife.
After having a child and running a store, she helped take care of the child for free, not to mention covering the living expenses for their family of three.
Lately, she had been urging them to have another child, and Tang Qiwen and Hong Tao were trying to conceive, but Tang Qiwen was not anxious about when the good news would come.
Her in-laws weren’t putting any pressure on her either.
Being the only son of the Hong family, Hong Tao had two sisters whose hukou were no longer registered in the village, so if the demolition compensation came through, Hong Tao was in for a lot of money.
"Heh, my little money-grubber," Hong Tao said with a kiss to her forehead, enjoying the sight of his wife looking adorably dumbfounded.
She was a mother and yet could still show such cute, pure expressions—it was truly rare.
"So how much will you get?" Tang Qiwen continued to ask.
"Over ten million, I guess."
"Wow, that much? Then I’ll chip in and send Grandpa some Maotai, too?" Tang Qiwen switched to budgeting mode; with over ten million as a safety net, she felt she could afford to buy some Maotai as well.
Hong Tao: "..."
Is she still fussing over Maotai?
"No need, Grandpa would scold people."
Tang Qiwen had a realization. Oh right, Lu Han and Tang Su had already sent some, and if they sent more, given Grandpa Tang’s straightforward nature, he would undoubtedly scold her and even make her return it, accusing her of wasting money.
The reason the Tang family had become what it was today was because no matter whether they were rich or poor, Grandma Tang had always said that money should be spent where it’s needed most, and frugality was a virtue that everyone in the Tang family had to uphold from generation to generation.
"Let’s go, we’ll go back the day after tomorrow, directly ask your mother-in-law, and then, my share will all be transferred to your account."
"Huh? All of it transferred to me? Aren’t you keeping any on hand? Aren’t you afraid I’ll run away?"
"I’m tethering you to me, so no matter where you run, you can’t escape, can you?"
"I’m not running, I’m not running, I still have to give birth to your second monkey."
"Right, let’s work hard tonight," Hong Tao said in a husky voice.
"Buzz off, not tonight, I’ve already promised your son I’ll sleep with him."
"What’s the point in minding that stinky kid? He’s three now; he should be sleeping alone," Hong Tao grumbled. This son of his seemed to have been born to come collect a debt, hogging his wife every single night.
"He’s only three, not thirty."
"What are you two dawdling about back there?" Li Mingfang, seeing that her daughter and son-in-law hadn’t caught up, came back to look for them. She found the couple being affectionate and was somewhat speechless.
Can’t you stand it?
Really now.
"Nothing much, just whispering sweet nothings."
"You two are an old married couple by now; how many sweet nothings could you possibly have to say? You’d think you were Lu Han and Tang Su on their honeymoon. Hurry up, if Little Stone can’t see you soon, he’ll start crying."
"Oh."
