Chapter 381: Sister Lan’s sharp tongue, piercing straight to the heart (2nd Update)_1

"The delivery for the grilled durian is here. May I ask, who is it for..."

Xinlan’s hesitation was interrupted by the sudden entrance of Yangming pushing open the door.

Today was Yangming’s first day reporting to the film crew, and in the evening, he had dinner with them. After the meal disbanded, he casually scrolled through his Moments and saw a post from Xinlan venting her frustration:

[I want to eat grilled durian, but the barbecue shop has a limited supply, and the boss told me to come early tomorrow, wuwuwu...]

During the dinner, Yangming had drunk some alcohol, so of course he couldn’t drive the crew’s car over. Instead, he took a taxi to deliver the heartfelt durian.

"Yangming? Why are you here?"

"Sis, why is the door not locked in the middle of the night? Director Jiang has gained quite a bit of weight these past few years, huh? Life seems pretty good."

Yangming instantly sobered up when he saw Jiang Tao. After scanning everyone in the room, he pretty much guessed what had happened.

On the way to the hotel where the film crew was staying, with Xinlan driving him, he already knew about her plans to divorce Jiang Tao.

When everyone in the car asked for his opinion, he leisurely said, "It’s high time for a divorce."

They were on the verge of divorce. What was Jiang Tao doing at his sister’s house in the middle of the night, with his hand bandaged? What was his intention?

Play the pity card, seek sympathy?

If he didn’t want to divorce Xinlan, what had he been doing all this time?

"Mr. Su is still very young and maintains a great figure," Jiang Tao praised him, though his words didn’t match his feelings.

Yangming was only thirty-six this year, while he was over fifty, naturally unable to compare with Yangming in any aspect.

If Jiang Tao hadn’t come out of Old Mrs. Su’s belly and wasn’t Su Ruoan’s younger brother, just based on age, it would be appropriate for him to call him uncle.

However, everyone from the Su family, whenever they saw him, would call him Director Jiang. Even when he was the chief, they called him Chief Jiang.

Quite unwelcome indeed.

"If Director Jiang says I’m young, then what’s the use of me maintaining myself? Being young is the best asset."

Xinlan: "..."

This Yangming really was Ruoan’s own brother. Whomever his sister didn’t like, Yangming would unleash his venomous tongue on them.

It used to be like this, and it still is.

As for Ruoan, although she has always disliked Jiang Tao, she would be polite when talking to him for her sake, even if it was feigned courtesy. At least, it was courtesy.

However, Yangming wouldn’t even bother with feigned politeness; anytime he spoke with Jiang Tao, he could infuriate him to death.

In the past, she might have felt a bit sorry for Jiang Tao, but now, she felt nothing at all.

If Yangming loved to mock him, let him mock. After all, it had nothing to do with her.

"Lanlan, come with me to the countryside, will you? My hand is so swollen, I can’t drive," Jiang Tao implored, thinking of the pressing matters waiting for him at the Jiang Family home and decided not to exchange barbs with Yangming anymore, hoping to get Xinlan to drive for him.

"Sorry, my hand isn’t swollen, but I’ve been drinking and can’t drive for you," Xinlan refused.

It was all because of Yangming, bringing over the grilled durian she had been craving. With that in her possession, not even a tractor could pull her away, let alone Jiang Tao.

The old Jiang Tao might have been capable, but starting now, he no longer had that ability.

"Director Jiang, if you’re in a hurry, you might as well find a designated driver," Tang Shengyi suggested.

"Can you accompany me on a trip?" Jiang Tao lowered his stance once again.

"Director Jiang, isn’t that inappropriate? It’s so late at night, how can you expect my sister Lanlan to go somewhere alone with you? Her personal safety cannot be guaranteed, and my sister wouldn’t be at ease."

"Su Yangming, what does our marital issue have to do with you? Even your sister hasn’t said anything, why are you butting in?" Jiang Tao, having held back for a long time, finally reached a breaking point.

He humored Zhao Xinlan because she was useful to him, but what was Su Yangming?

"Spouses? Have you asked my sister Lanlan if she still wants to be your wife?"

"Regardless of whether she wants to or not, that’s our private marital affair. Our marriage certificate hasn’t been replaced with a divorce certificate yet, what gives you the right to interfere?"

"Oh, I’m actually going to interfere. My sister Lanlan wants a divorce; how much longer can you cling to that marriage certificate? Also, have you never heard of cases where a divorce can happen without the presence of both parties, or what?"

"With the Su Family around, you’re about to become an ex-husband soon. As an ex-husband, you come running over in the middle of the night, asking my sister Lanlan to go out with you, what are your intentions?"

"What, is Director Jiang planning on losing all shame?"

"You—" Jiang Tao was so angered he wanted to point a finger at Su Yangming, but just as he moved his hand, the pain was severe. He turned back to glare at Zhao Xinlan, "Zhao Xinlan, you really can’t come with me? How can your heart be so cruel?"

"Hahaha, Mr. Jiang, I’m cruel? Do you have the nerve to call me cruel? Have you no shame? Who was it that told me Dr. Tang’s anesthesia skills were shoddy and that there had been complaints from patients’ families, that it would take years for his promotion?"

"Back then, the young and naive me actually believed your nonsense. It’s only now that I realize there were hospitals in Beijing offering him a high salary; he just didn’t take them up on their offers."

"And this is the Dr. Tang you told me was incompetent?"

"If he left that shabby hospital you manage, not to mention the head of the anesthesia department, he would be more than capable of being the head of a whole hospital."

"No, no, Xinlan, you are overestimating me. I’m not even qualified to be the head," Tang Shengyi said modestly.

"Just shut up. Now is not the time to draw attention to yourself," Su Ruoan pulled Tang Shengyi aside and whispered to him.

True enough, Tang Shengyi’s modest words were promptly ignored by Zhao Xinlan, as if she hadn’t heard them at all.

She followed up like a machine gun, firing at Jiang Tao, who by now had turned the color of a pig’s liver:

"I’ve known about this for a while, and the reason I didn’t argue with you or confront you about it was that Ruoan convinced me not to. With all the things you’ve done, if it weren’t for me still finding you somewhat attractive, I would have divorced you a long time ago."

"You still have the guts to say I’m heartless, get lost. If you don’t leave, I’ll make sure the Jiang Family loses everything."

"And that Jiang Shanshan, I don’t care who bullies her. Let me tell you, with the Jiang Family’s genes, whatever happens to her, she deserves it. How dare she compete with my Tang Bao for a man, not even looking at how plain she is."

"She dares to covet Lu Han?"

"Hmph, damn it, you’re really trying to kill me with laughter."

Jiang Tao: ...

Jiang Tao had always known that Zhao Xinlan had a sharp tongue when it came to scolding people, but he had never imagined that one day, her biting words would stab directly at his heart.

Following Zhao Xinlan’s tirade, after everyone remained silent for ten seconds, Su Yangming led the applause, then with affection and indulgence, passed the roasted durian he was holding to her:

"Sister Lanlan, you’ve had a tough time, have a bite."

"Thanks." Zhao Xinlan took it without hesitation. She had been craving for a taste, but Jiang Tao clung on like a mangy dog, refusing to leave.

It was truly hopeless.

Jiang Tao: ...
