Chapter 369: 338 Intentional, contrary (2 updates)_1
Tang Su hadn’t figured out what to say when the call got disconnected. There was no stopping the indomitable Su Yu. He called again, determined not to give up until he achieved his goal.
Having no choice, Tang Su answered, "Yu, I need to ask her first. If she’s willing to give it, then I can give you her number."
"Hmm, I’m not asking you to give me her phone number right now. I just want to ask you, why do you think we’re not suitable? Why do you think I’m not good enough for her?"
"Is it just because she’s the Bai Family’s young lady?"
Their Su Family’s status indeed didn’t match the Bai Family’s, but he made an effort to find out from friends. Bai Simen wasn’t originally a Bai; she wasn’t truly a member of the Bai Family in the full sense of the word.
Lu Han didn’t care at all that Bai Simen was an adopted granddaughter brought into the Bai Family by the Bai family patriarch, a girl with neither father nor mother. This made Su Yu feel even more compassion for her.
He wanted to love her well, to cherish her.
To be good to her for a lifetime.
"Of course not, anyway, give me some time, please. She’s not in Beijing right now; she has already gone to work."
"Oh, okay, then. You better take my request seriously," Su Yu didn’t insist that Tang Su help him with this immediately.
"I know."
After hanging up the phone, Tang Su felt utterly exhausted.
Initially, she thought that after getting to know these rich young masters, the primary trouble would be the relatives coming to borrow money for various reasons.
Little did she expect, she took on the role of a matchmaker first.
It was somewhat draining.
Tang Feng, halfway up the stairs, urged her to take a bath in her room and then rest a bit. They should also go to the hospital to visit.
"Oh, coming."
Thinking of what was to come, Tang Su revived her spirits.
**
The following two days passed quickly, and before they knew it, Monday had arrived.
The Su Family cleared their schedule for today, including Shen Ao, who had no plans and obediently arrived at the hospital early in the morning.
The day before the surgery, the elderly Madam Su didn’t eat anything.
With the old lady not eating, others also didn’t have much of an appetite.
Early in the morning, Tang Su drank only a cup of warm milk. The boiled egg that Tang Shengyi cooked for her was still in her pocket, uneaten due to a lack of appetite.
To cheer up the elderly lady before she went to the operating table, everyone crowded in the hospital room, taking turns taking photos with her.
Gradually, the anxiety on Madam Su’s face was replaced by smiles.
She was actually quite afraid that once she went onto the operating table, she might not come down again. Before the day of the surgery, she could still pretend, even comfort those around her.
Today, however, she couldn’t comfort others anymore, as she couldn’t even stabilize her own emotions.
After taking a few photos and everyone trying hard to make jokes to cheer her up, the elderly Madam Su slowly came to terms with the situation. She reasoned that even if she really couldn’t emerge from the operating room, her life had been worthwhile.
No major regrets.
That was enough.
Xu Bo’s team arrived at half past eight. The surgery was scheduled for nine thirty, leaving an hour for pre-operative preparations.
Xu Bo was personally performing the surgery, normally going to the operating room only five minutes before to prepare. Because Madam Su was a direct referral from Lu Maoyan, who had personally called him, Xu Bo was taking this very seriously.
He ran through all the procedures himself, diligently and hands-on.
Su Ruoan and Tang Shengyi were very grateful. After the pre-surgery discussion ended, Tang Shengyi followed Xu Bo’s team out, "Mom, see you in the operating room."
"Okay," nodded the old Madam Su. With her son-in-law in the operating room, it seemed a little less frightening.
Before going into the operating room, various in-laws sent representatives to visit. Wu Donglin and Bai Zhengfeng also came. They visited under the pretense of seeing the elderly Madam Su, but in reality, they came to check on Tang Su.
They were worried if the girl would be too anxious.
In their eyes, Tang Su was a young lady who valued loyalty and friendship deeply.
After the visit, they called Lu Maoyan and Bai Wei to go with them to a nearby teahouse to wait for news, as there were too many of them, and the space outside the operating room was limited. They didn’t want to take up too much room and be the subject of idle gossip from other patients’ families.
Being in high positions, they should be more self-aware, which was the most basic principle innate to their existence.
They understood this, and acted accordingly.
At nine-thirty, old Mrs. Su was wheeled into the operating room. Her five children stayed behind, while the rest could go back to their respective homes and wait for news.
Shen Ao accompanied his son to take Shen’s grandmother back home.
On the way home, Shen’s grandmother was quite emotional, "That old lady, she really has quite a glorious moment today."
"Grandma, I’ll make sure you have your glorious moments too," Shen Yifei said, flattering the old lady.
"Good, grandma’s precious grandson, you’re worth all the love grandma has for you." After saying this, the old lady took out her phone and transferred a tidy sum of spending money to Shen Yifei.
Shen Yifei accepted it with joy and even pecked a kiss on the old lady’s cheek.
The old lady’s brow lit up with delight immediately.
"Mom, don’t say such things. No matter how glorious, she was sent to the operating room. I’d rather you weren’t so glorious but safe and healthy; that’s better than anything," Shen Ao was more pragmatic.
"Yeah, if you had married that third daughter of the Su Family back then, now..."
"Mom—" Shen Ao reminded her, not to mention those things anymore. That was all in the past. He and Su Wanyi had four children now; in this lifetime, Su Wanyi was his wife.
Besides, such topics are not suitable to be discussed in front of Shen Yifei.
Fortunately, Shen Yifei was engrossed in his mobile game and didn’t hear what his father and grandmother were saying.
"Ah, forget it. I might as well get some sleep. Wake me up when we get home."
"Okay."
**
Over at the teahouse, Lu Han ordered a cup of rose tea for Tang Su, while he chose a cup of chrysanthemum with goji berries for himself.
The two sat alone in a corner of the teahouse, Bai Zhengfeng and Wu Donglin also tactfully did not go to disturb them.
Wu Jie sat for a while and, upon seeing Shen Yi approaching their table on the second floor, he called Su Yu, "Su Yu, I have some free time today. Since there are so many people here and if you’re not too affected emotionally, I can take you out for a driving lesson."
"Great." Su Yu stood up, "Master, I’ll just let my mom know."
Wu Jie nodded.
Su Yu went to notify Xie Lan, asking her to send him a message if there was any news from his grandmother, as there were too many people, and he didn’t want to crowd the place.
"Sure, go ahead, I have to head back to the company for a meeting." Xie Lan had also recently received a call from the company needing her to return.
A visit out of courtesy was sufficient; there was no need for everyone to wait there.
Mother and son left one after the other.
Shen Yi watched Su Yu and Wu Jie walk away side by side, pouting and feeling downcast.
She took Tang Su’s advice at the Wu Family home, not to be impatient, but to take things slowly.
However, Su Yu was going a bit too far. Seeing her coming over, he called Wu Jie away. What was he trying to imply?
Was he deliberately opposing her?
"Shen Yi, come over here and sit with us," Wei Shiya called her over proactively.
Wei Shiya had originally wanted to go off by herself either back home or to meet up with friends, but her mother wouldn’t let her leave.
Having no choice, she stayed behind.
Shen Yi walked over and just as she sat down, Wei Shiya leaned in, pouting, wanting to gossip with Shen Yi about Tang Su and Su Yu.
However, Shen Yi still needed Tang Su’s favor and relied on her to put in a good word for her with Wu Jie, so she didn’t cooperate much with Wei Shiya.
Though Wei Shiya was slow to catch on, she eventually noticed.
