Chapter 315: Monkey’s hurry, monkey’s hurry (2 updates)_1
Lu Han spent the entire morning at the Bai Family’s home. Bai Simen returned, and the Bai household was lively, and then Bai Dingkai arrived, making it even livelier.
However, Lu Han was preoccupied with Tang Su, and he just wasn’t in the mood.
In the past, people had mistakenly tried to match Bai Dingkai and Bai Simen together. At one point, Bai Simen even had an abortion, and the child was Bai Dingkai’s.
But this kid, after taking advantage, refused to take responsibility. He relied on the fact that Bai Simen wouldn’t hold him accountable and knew that as someone privy to his secrets, his lips were sealed, and he wouldn’t betray him.
In front of their elders, they acted like siblings with a deep bond.
Although they were not related by blood, Bai Simen was grateful and changed her surname to that of Patriarch Bai, which was the greatest proof. Moreover, she had said that she would fulfill her filial duties to Patriarch Bai in the future.
Now, even though she had been out of touch for three years, she had returned.
For lunch, Song Mingxiu also joined Lu Zhu at the Bai family’s home for a family feast.
They had hired a five-star chef to cook at home, instead of going to a restaurant.
It hadn’t been even an hour since they parted, but Song Mingxiu’s call came again. Seeing that most of the day had gone by without any news from Tang Su, Lu Han was already in a bad mood.
When he answered the call, his tone couldn’t be good either, "Come on, brother-in-law, are you annoying the wrong person here?"
"Oh, Tang Su still hasn’t contacted you? You seem to be in a bad mood," said Song Mingxiu, delighting in someone else’s misfortune.
The Song teacher known to the public was mature and steady, ascetic and aloof, and even the young girls who had just entered college felt a fondness and yearning for such a Song teacher.
Privately, they couldn’t resist teasing him, yet everyone at Beijing University knew that the married Song teacher’s wife had never been seen coming to the school to pick him up.
As time went on, the school was rife with gossip that Song teacher’s marriage was rocky and that a divorce was inevitable.
Some girls, obsessed with Song Mingxiu to the point of being unhealthy, even prayed every day for their divorce, waiting for the moment Song Mingxiu would become single so they could make their move.
Anyway, Song Mingxiu was only in his early thirties, and he seemed quite young in their eyes.
"Brother-in-law, you’re being quite unkind. Does my sister know about this?"
"Your sister is the person who understands me best in this world. Let me ask you something, a few years back, some photos went missing from my study—did you take them?"
Song Mingxiu was curious about this matter, and now he had something to leverage Lu Han’s secrets, so he naturally had to ask.
Lu Han feigned ignorance knowingly, "What photos? I can’t remember something from years ago."
"Really don’t remember?"
"Why would I lie to you?"
"Alright then, I just saw Tang Su’s old roommate and it reminded me—I was going to share a funny story about something that happened to Tang Su back in school with you, but since you’re acting like this, I guess I won’t bother."
"My colleague is calling me, so I will..." Hang up.
Before he could finish saying "hang up," Lu Han interrupted him, "Brother-in-law, what’s the funny story about Tang Su?"
This time, Lu Han’s tone was much better, almost sycophantic.
He had no choice as he was squeezed where it hurt, and it was time to soften up.
Song Mingxiu let out a light chuckle, haha, just like that, the big fish was hooked.
Song Mingxiu turned on his phone’s screen and began recording, "Well, you have to answer my question first about a few years ago—the group photo of my elective class with Tang Su and other students, did you take it?"
"When I was in the study yesterday, I noticed that every photo with Tang Su in it was gone. What’s your intention?"
"Yes, yes, I took them. I didn’t expect you to have a photo with her," Lu Han wanted to know everything about Tang Su, whether it was trivia or gossip.
"You’ve really been plotting for a long time when it comes to Tang Su. How long ago was that? And what’s your deal with the Ouyang Family’s girl?" Song Mingxiu was curious about more than just Lu Han’s longstanding scheming concerning Tang Su.
"One story for one question—I’ve answered your question already, can’t you be a bit more honest as a teacher?" Lu Han wasn’t foolish; he had already asked several questions in a row, hadn’t he?
It was supposed to be that one question would be exchanged for one interesting story he knew about Tang Su.
He didn’t even greedily ask for more than one item, so how could he feel comfortable bombarding him with so many questions in a row.
"Fine, fine, fine, you think I’m so eager to snoop on your gossip? If it wasn’t for your sister, I wouldn’t even want to bother figuring this out," Song Mingxiu responded without a trace of amiability.
The reason he was being so nagging was for his wife, not for his little brother-in-law, Lu Han.
"Well, go on then, tell me about some interesting things that happened during Tang Su’s school days."
"Interesting things? I wouldn’t know. I was just an elective course teacher, not their class advisor. How much interaction could there be with only two classes a week for an elective course?"
"No way, Song Mingxiu, you’re playing me," Lu Han was so irritated that he stopped calling him brother-in-law and addressed him by his full name.
At the other end of the phone, hearing how Lu Han couldn’t contain his impatience, Song Mingxiu chuckled twice, "How am I playing you? As for the amusing stories about Tang Su in class, do you want to hear them? She got paint all over her face like a little calico cat; that’s something every art student goes through. Do you really want to hear about that?"
"Song Mingxiu, if I ever fall for your tricks again, I..."
"Tang Su is now at Beijing University. The four girls must have planned to revisit the campus together. If you come over now, you might still be able to..."
Song Mingxiu hadn’t finished speaking when Lu Han hastily thanked him and hung up the phone.
"..."
This kid, always in such a rush.
Where is the excellent, stable, mature man that his father-in-law spoke of?
Impatient like this, he’s just like a brash youngster. Those who don’t know might think he’s eighteen this year, not twenty-eight.
Heh—
**
The four girls explored the campus, taking photos for each other—solo pictures, pairs, trios, and group pictures of all four. They took loads and loads.
Liu Ting said to take many so that later they could pick the best ones to post on their social media circles.
The dormitory they used to sleep in was off-limits now; dorm management is strict, and with responsible dormitory supervisors, you might not even be able to enter the front door.
So naturally, they didn’t go and end up with a figurative slap in the face.
They wandered around campus where there were plenty of places to visit. They couldn’t enter the library, but it was possible to take photos on the first floor of the library.
After nearly finishing their tour, Liu Ting contacted the former resident advisor, who likely hadn’t started winter break and was probably still staying at the faculty dorms on campus.
As the four of them headed to the faculty dorms, Liu Ting pulled out the phone number she hadn’t deleted and dialed it, but the resident advisor’s phone was turned off.
"It’s turned off," Liu Ting expressed her disappointment.
Turned off doesn’t mean the service has been cut off. It means possibly in a class or busy with something else. As long as the call goes through, they could still get in touch.
"Should we wait, or visit another time?" Liu Ting asked them.
"Next time. We didn’t even finish buying things," Chen Xiaoxiao said. They had come empty-handed; even if they wanted to invite the resident advisor to dinner around the college, they hadn’t even bought a fruit basket, so it wouldn’t be polite to visit, right?
"Okay," the other three girls agreed.
As the afternoon passed by and it was almost five o’clock, the four girls started discussing which restaurant to go to for dinner around the university.
They had dry pot at noon, so they definitely couldn’t have it again for dinner.
"Fish bar?" Ke Jie suggested.
"Sure," Liu Ting answered, then she noticed someone, "Hey? That guy over there, does he know us? Why is he continually looking this way?"
Everyone followed the direction Liu Ting was pointing. Chen Xiaoxiao and Ke Jie didn’t recognize Lu Han, but Tang Su did.
The moment Tang Su saw Lu Han, she was extremely shocked. There were no missed calls or any messages from Lu Han on her phone, yet there he was, unexpectedly appearing before her eyes without warning.
Reflecting on the last dozen or so hours, her grievances, sadness, and the immense surprise Lu Han’s sudden appearance brought her at this moment, Tang Su felt like she wanted to throw caution to the wind and throw herself into his arms.
