Chapter 296: 265 The earlier it is settled, the better (1 more)_1

No one from the Su Family expected that Lu Maoyan, a legend for being a formidable figure, could be so easygoing in person. When he spoke with Tang Su, he was just like a kind elder.

Although he was much older than Bai Wei, nearly a generation apart, the way he doted on his wife was genuine, no wonder Bai Wei was so attached to him.

During their years in Beijing, the Su Family had heard many stories about Lu Maoyan. The tales were mainly about how bravely young Lu Maoyan fought his enemies, summarized in just four words—killed people like grass.

In an era of peace, with no war in their country, though warfare persisted elsewhere, news of battles would still reach them.

Even so, they didn’t like watching those news stories.

And that tumultuous era was, after all, history.

So for someone whose hands were stained with blood, someone responsible for taking lives, the common people like them would feel a mixture of fear, even if his killings were justified, bore no legal consequences, and cutting off an enemy’s head even made him a hero.

Towards Lu Maoyan, the Su Family felt a sense of respect and awe.

There was only one exception, and that was the old Madam Su.

She stayed for lunch in consideration of her daughter Su Ruoan, but after the initial courtesies were exchanged, she remained silent for the rest of the time.

Nobody noticed her unusual quietness.

After all, Su Ruoan’s family hadn’t expected Bai Wei and Lu Maoyan to be so enthusiastic. They had plenty of topics to talk about, and there was never an awkward pause from the minute they met until the meal ended.

The other members of the Su Family also experienced quite a few emotional ups and downs, but Lu Maoyan and Bai Wei still took care of their feelings. Although not overly warm, they didn’t neglect them either.

Everything was just right.

As lunch was coming to an end, Bai Wei invited Su Ruoan and Tang Shengyi to visit their home, as their children were so close, and some details should be discussed between the potential in-laws.

Of course, this was under the premise that they had no other engagements for the day; if they did, they could choose another day when they were available to talk.

Su Yangming immediately said, "My third sister and brother-in-law mainly came to accompany our mother for the family portrait. Now that the portrait is done, and our mother’s wish is fulfilled, it’s time to focus on the children’s matters, they are available."

Old Madam Su glared at Su Yangming; he certainly was her darling son.

"Since my little uncle has spoken, let’s have dinner at home tonight. Also, Tang Su is Mingxiu’s student; this is a connection between our two families. How about it, Madam Su Ruoan?" Bai Wei still wanted to seek Su Ruoan’s opinion.

"Okay, then we’ll impose." Su Ruoan agreed.

Old Madam Su glanced at them and ultimately said nothing. She turned to Su Wanyi, "Eldest, I’m feeling a bit tired, how about we head back first?"

"Uh, okay, Mom." Su Wanyi actually wanted to visit the Lu Family estate as well, but Bai Wei had said so much and didn’t even show the courtesy of inviting them, so naturally, she understood they only wished to invite Su Ruoan and Tang Shengyi.

They didn’t want to have the entire Su Family over.

Lu Han hadn’t spoken the entire time, and Tang Su didn’t have much opportunity to speak later. And so, after the Su Family left, Su Ruoan’s family was then invited to the Lu Family estate.

Song Mingxiu had two classes in the afternoon and needed to return to school, while Lu Zhu had matters to attend to at work. After promising to be back in time for dinner, they bid farewell to Tang Su and left.

Once at the Lu Family estate, Bai Wei took care of entertaining Su Ruoan. Behind the estate was a fish pond teeming with lush fish. Lu Maoyan suggested taking Tang Shengyi to the pond behind the estate for fishing.

Hearing that their estate had a fish pond and that he could actually fish, Tang Shengyi’s eyes instantly lit up. He no longer felt the age difference that made Lu Maoyan seem like an elder and readily agreed.

"Okay, Mr. Lu, let’s have a fishing competition in a bit," Tang Shengyi’s fishing addiction was immediately sparked.

"Hahaha, sure, we share the same interest. Whenever you feel like fishing, just fly over to Beijing and find me."

"Then I won’t stand on ceremony with you."

"No need to be polite; we’re going to be family."

"Little Tang, do you want to join us too? If you’re not interested or if you’re tired, I can ask the butler to take you to your room to rest," Lu Maoyan asked Tang Feng.

"I’m not tired; I’ll fish with you guys."

"Great, great, great, the more the merrier," Lu Maoyan was not bothered at all.

As soon as the butler learned that the three of them were going to fish, he immediately sent someone to the storeroom to fetch the master’s fishing gear; the family had enough fishing gear to go around. Not to mention three people fishing together; even ten people could do it simultaneously.

With something to pass the time, Bai Wei and Su Ruoan enjoyed freshly brewed coffee in the glass conservatory outside the living room, basking in the afternoon sun.

The table was laden with a variety of snacks.

Bai Wei had always loved snacks, especially when she was younger and controlled her diet carefully due to her dancing.

Now that she danced less, only occasionally guest teaching at the school, she wasn’t as strict with her body as when she was younger. But even now, indulging in food doesn’t seem to have affected her figure much.

Bai Wei instructed the kitchen to prepare an elaborate dinner, and upon learning that Su Ruoan’s family had no dietary restrictions, she told them to prepare simple home-cooked dishes.

What to eat wasn’t important; Bai Wei just wanted to have Tang Su married into the Lu family sooner.

"Mrs. Tang Su, I think you can see that both Mr. Lu and I really like Tang Su. I’m wondering, if our Lu Han wants to marry your Tang Su, what do we, as parents, need to do? Just say the word, and we’ll do our best to satisfy your request."

"Thank you, Lu Han’s mother. Actually, as long as the two kids are happy, we parents are satisfied. As for what needs to be done, our family has never been too particular."

"Our family is the same. Of course, if Lu Han’s grandparents were still around, the process might be very intricate. But I am a simple person; when Mr. Lu and I got together, we just got our marriage certificate and didn’t even have a wedding ceremony. We have been lovingly together till now."

"Right, I think if the two kids have really thought it through and want to get married, the simpler the process, the better."

"That won’t do; I really like Tang Su too much. I want her to marry into the Lu family with full honors. Mrs. Tang Su, if you don’t have time to prepare, let me take care of the wedding. I’m pretty much free these days anyway."

"Plus, Mr. Lu was just complaining the other day that our house has been too quiet for too long. We had a bit of excitement when Lu Han’s sister got married, but it’s been a few years since then. We’ve been looking forward to the day Lu Han takes a wife."

"Okay, then you can take care of the wedding preparation. I’m indeed very busy and still have a few years before retirement, but whenever you need anything from my side, just command me," Su Ruoan said with a smile.

In fact, when parents see eye to eye, they don’t care much about the process; Su Ruoan herself is just that straightforward.

Bai Wei felt the same. When she first met Su Ruoan, she felt she was easy to talk to, but she didn’t expect Su Ruoan to be this easygoing.

So, Lu Han would be following his mother-in-law’s family in Hua City in the future, and his days would be quite pleasant.

Bai Wei was only worried about two things: whether Lu Han’s girlfriend had princess syndrome and whether the future mother-in-law would be fussy.

As it turned out, Tang Su didn’t have a hint of princess syndrome, and Su Ruoan wasn’t fussy at all. She was very straightforward and generous. Having such a daughter-in-law and such relatives was something to be settled sooner rather than later.
