Chapter 250: 219 Mountain Delicacies, Seafood (1 Update)_1
The topic of the most discussion was still Tang Su.
This guy was really too good at making money, being the richest among the five Su siblings. At thirty-six years old, he was a bachelor, and many acquaintances in the circle wanted to use their connections to introduce their marriageable daughters to Tang Su.
There were also quite a few people secretly inquiring about what Tang Su planned to invest in after returning to China this time, as they also wanted to follow Tang Su’s lead and invest to make a profit.
Since the family of Su Mengting’s sister-in-law, Xie Lan, also ran a company, these people wouldn’t ask Xie Lan about Tang Su’s investment projects; instead, they would ask the husband and wife duo Su Mengting and Wei Yuan.
Both were lawyers who had opened a law firm together and were elite lawyers in the industry.
To avoid disputes between the couple, and in line with the principle that the husband works outside while the wife tends to affairs at home, Wei Yuan would take on all sorts of cases, both civil and criminal.
Su Mengting was responsible for divorce cases only.
Perhaps because Su Mengting only took divorce cases, she was especially proficient in this area. Coupled with Su Wanyi’s connections, Su Mengting had more cases than she could handle.
The couple was blessed with both a son and a daughter. When the children were young, Su Mengting spent more time at home caring for the children, during which she continuously read books and studied classic cases.
She did this in preparation to lay a solid foundation for the future.
Once the children were older, the first case she took on made her an overnight sensation in the divorce market, with many wealthy individuals seeking her out to handle their divorce cases.
Even if they didn’t file for divorce, many people would come to consult with her about divorce-related issues, simply because of her reputation.
And it made her quite a fortune.
With a sister like Su Mengting, Su Wanyi was not at all worried about her husband and any mistresses he might have, not to mention that she had a mother-in-law willing to support her.
No matter how it was phrased, having given birth to four children for Shen Ao, with both sons and daughters among them, Shen Ao wouldn’t dare divorce her, even if he was utterly heartless.
Those young women who were only after Shen Ao’s money would take it and smartly break it off with him after getting intimate, while the not-so-smart ones, who fantasized about displacing Mrs. Shen and taking her position, eventually walked away dejected upon facing reality.
However, it turned out that there were simply too many foolish women out there.
One would leave, and another dozen would come.
With the whole family gathering together, after discussing Tang Su, the only topic left was Su Ruoan’s family.
Su Ruoan’s family gossip was truly plentiful, starting with the fact that Su Ruoan was the prettiest among the three Su sisters but ended up marrying the most disappointing man.
Furthermore, Tang Shengyi was a man who could really keep his cool. He was not promoted, did not get a raise, nor did he strive for advancement, and it was heard that he even got into stock trading a few years back.
It was unbelievable that Su Ruoan even indulged her husband in stock trading. Didn’t the two of them realize that ordinary people like them were the least suited for stock trading?
Even those with a bit of spare cash wouldn’t dare to venture into stock trading just like that, unless they had insider information.
Then the conversation turned to Tang Su, who came to Beijing to attend university for four years. When she graduated, all her aunts, uncles, and their spouses genuinely concerned themselves with her job and marriage prospects.
But she, on the other hand, quietly returned home right after graduation.
If she was going to go back anyway, why bother coming to Beijing for four years of university?
She went back alright, but with a university degree like Tang Su’s, she could have found a decent job at some institution or company, right?
Instead, she went ahead and opened a bookstore and a coffee shop.
In this day and age, who is still doing well with brick-and-mortar stores? With so many people shifting their focus online, she actually opened two storefronts?
This whole family must be crazy.
Finally, they talked about Tang Feng, who went to the army after just one year of university. Su Ruoan and Tang Shengyi actually supported the decision completely.
They were indeed a pair of odd parents with a couple of peculiar children.
It just proved the saying, "Birds of a feather flock together."
After finishing gossiping about Tang Su’s family of four, they arrived.
Instantly, everyone’s facial expressions changed. The pleasantries didn’t take long, mainly because Tang Su was too hungry. With a quick "good evening, everyone," he didn’t bother to greet each of his sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, or nephews individually but sat down to eat straight away.
"This kid must have been born hungry," Su Wanyi chuckled as she took off her coat, signaling the waiter to serve the dishes.
The elder Mrs. Su and Mrs. Shen took their places at the head of the table, with the rest of the family sitting according to their generational rank.
Tang Su and Tang Feng, neither vying for attention nor scrambling for a spot, took the seats farthest from the head of the table. Tang Su quite enjoyed sitting here; during the meal, she might even find time to sneak a peek at her phone.
As Tang Feng and Tang Su sat down next to each other, both breathed a huge sigh of relief.
Su Wanyi had booked the largest private room at Xinghua Hall, with a table that could comfortably accommodate their large family of thirty people.
The senior Mrs. Su and Mrs. Shen shared a common goal: they longed to see four generations under one roof. Unfortunately, among Tang Su’s generation, the eldest, Shen Xuan, had been married for several years without any good news to share.
The second eldest, Shen Yun, had been married for two years as well, yet her belly had remained unfilled.
She had been pregnant during the first year, but somehow, it turned out to be an ectopic pregnancy which ended in surgery, and they had heard no good news since then.
The second child of the Su family and his wife did bring some pride, having produced a son named Su Yu. Now twenty-eight years old, Su Yu had been in several relationships, but they all ended without issue.
He was either dumped, or he was the one ending things.
The fourth, Su Mengting, had both a son and a daughter, and her family of four was structured similarly to Su Ruoan’s. The first child was a son named Wei Yuchen, now twenty-six years old.
The second was a daughter, named Wei Shiya; she graduated in June, and immediately after, managed to get employed by a large company as the CEO’s executive assistant. At only twenty-two, having become an executive assistant to the CEO was indeed an achievement.
The elders, insisting on marriage, hadn’t yet reached the point of pressuring the two siblings.
When the elder generation mentioned these regrets, Su Ruoan once recommended an experienced traditional Chinese medicine practitioner to her elder sister. However, perhaps due to differing perspectives, Su Wanyi never took her daughter to see him.
Now, as the elders brought up the matter of Shen Xuan still not being pregnant, Su Ruoan chose to remain silent.
As the dishes were served, Su Yangming called out for everyone to eat. After serving soup for the two elders, he started to dine heartily; he was genuinely hungry.
Tang Su and Tang Feng were the last to pick up their chopsticks, waiting until all the elders had done so first.
The round table rotated automatically, moving very slowly.
By the end of the first rotation, Tang Su had consumed a bowl of soup and helped herself to a small bowl of fried noodles.
When the large lobsters were served, the other Su family members tacitly refrained from reaching for the dish, allowing it to spin toward Su Ruoan and Tang Shengyi. Su Wanyi then stopped the turntable, encouraging the couple to help themselves generously.
"You rarely get to eat this, so indulge. I’ve also ordered king crab; be sure to have plenty of that too," Su Wanyi exclaimed enthusiastically, although her loud urging made Tang Shengyi a tad uncomfortable.
Indeed, items like large lobster and king crab weren’t staples on their family menu, but that wasn’t because they couldn’t afford them; they simply weren’t keen on seafood.
They would eat a little if it was available, but otherwise, they wouldn’t miss it.
"Thank you, sister," Su Ruoan said, picking a little for herself with the serving chopsticks and then some for Tang Shengyi. "Everyone, please eat."
"Auntie, Uncle, we eat this quite often. Today, my mom specially ordered it for you two," Shen Yifei boomed, his voice as imposing as his mother’s, Su Wanyi.
The bond between mother and son was strong in this lifetime.
"Alright, I’ll help myself to more," Su Ruoan said, unreservedly taking several more helpings with her chopsticks.
When it was Tang Su and Tang Feng’s turn, the siblings happily accepted whatever was left without any hint of awkwardness.
Seeing that the four of them had split one large lobster, Su Wanyi asked if they wanted another, but Tang Feng shook his head:
"No need, Auntie, there’s plenty of delicious food tonight. I also want to try other things. After all, I’m usually in the military base and rarely come across such delicacies."
"Then eat up, just tell your aunt if there’s anything specific you want," Su Wanyi responded magnanimously.
"Okay, we’re all family, I won’t be polite with you, Auntie."
"That’s more like it."
Tang Su started off reserved, but soon she began to eat with gusto, helping herself to whatever she fancied.
After all, they were among family; no need to stand on ceremony.
