Chapter 221: Miss Tang, welcome to my humble home (2 updates)_1

The next day, Lu Han took a day off and drove Tang Su to Hua City’s largest seafood market early in the morning.

Hua City isn’t by the sea, so to eat seafood there means paying extra for air freight.

If you want to buy the freshest, you have to get to the seafood market before dawn and wait for the goods to arrive. Some stall owners, to start the day on a lucky note, offer discounts at opening.

Lu Han wasn’t concerned about the discount, but arriving early meant he could choose the good stuff. If you go late, you’re left with others’ leftovers, which just isn’t as nice.

If he were buying for a casual meal, going in the afternoon would suffice, but since it was for Master Long, Lu Han naturally wanted to get the best.

Master Long grew up in a coastal city, playing by the sea since his childhood, enjoying the seafood brought back by the adults from their voyages.

Master Long’s carefree days halted when he was not yet ten years old; his parents went out to sea together, and that time, neither returned.

Without his parents to rely on, Master Long was swindled out of valuable family possessions by relatives, who took advantage of the children’s young ages.

Being younger, his siblings were sent off by the relatives to childless families. He was about to turn ten, and others deemed him too old, worried they couldn’t rear him properly, so nobody was willing to take him in.

After a year living at others’ mercy, Master Long left his hometown, drifting from place to place until he finally settled in Hua City.

As an adult, he had met with his siblings, but the relationship wasn’t close. Knowing how he had been living, they led decent lives and chose not to associate with their elder brother. Master Long didn’t mind and never again disturbed their lives.

Now, Master Long was old, his son and daughter-in-law were of poor fortune, but fortunately, he had a brother and sister to lean on.

Master Long’s life had also been full of hardships.

Lu Han didn’t disdain Master Long for once living on the edge of a knife; compared to those who would cheat ordinary people and steal their possessions, the river and lake folks he belonged to were more humane and abided by the laws of their kind.

Master Long regarded Lu Han as a close friend despite the age difference.

He took a particular liking to Lu Han.

After leaving his hometown, Master Long hadn’t touched seafood for decades because it reminded him of his deceased parents and the siblings who no longer associated with him.

Now old, and having made peace with the past, Master Long longed for the flavors of his childhood.

But because of health reasons, Long Aotian wouldn’t allow his grandfather to eat much of it.

When it was bought and cooked by Lu Han, it was a different story.

If Master Long craved it, he would call Lu Han.

Knowing Lu Han was going to Longmen Mansion to cook himself, Master Long had sent a message with just three words the day before—"Craving it now."

Lu Han understood.

Even if he hadn’t sent it, Lu Han had plans to go to the seafood market and buy some for them.

It wasn’t just for Master Long; they could all enjoy it.

Seafood was quite nice.

If you could stomach it.

Tang Su remembered going to the seafood market with her parents early in the morning as a child. She thought eating seafood in Hua City was truly a struggle compared to those living by the sea, who could buy seafood as easily as vegetables, available at any time.

Lu Han turned on the heater in the car and helped to recline the passenger seat, then brought over a thick blanket, "Take a nap, I’ll wake you up in a bit."

"...Thank you, Doctor Lu." Tang Su was genuinely tired and didn’t think twice before lying down.

After a forty-minute drive, Lu Han parked in front of the Seafood Market located on Sean Street.

Hua City has developed to a point where there’s more than one seafood market, but this is the oldest one. Lu Han had shopped here several times, and the quality has always been top-notch.

Today’s meal wasn’t purely a seafood feast. There were other dishes, so Lu Han bought some shrimp, crab, sea snails, fish, abalone, and the like.

In the words of the old man, small seafood might not be famous, but its taste is extraordinary.

Those king crabs and giant lobsters, unless prepared by a chef, end up being a waste of food when handled by someone who can’t cook.

Small seafood is different. Anyone can cook it. Just steam the fish you come across, blanch the shrimp, and cook the abalone with chicken and duck to make a delicious soup.

Lu Han took that to heart.

In the past, he really didn’t know how to shop.

He relied entirely on the recommendations of the shop owners, but now, he had become quite skilled at selecting. New shop owners in the seafood market even thought Lu Han was a local from the coast.

Lu Han let them have their misunderstandings, too lazy to explain.

In less than an hour, Lu Han was carrying a large box of seafood while Tang Su held a bag of it as they returned to the car.

On the way back, day had fully broken, and the breakfast spots were bustling. After eating breakfast with Tang Su and stopping by the fruit shop to pick out a basket of premium fruit, Lu Han drove towards Longmen.

The fruit was Tang Su’s idea. After interacting with the old man for several years, Lu Han knew well he was the kind of person for whom a visit sufficed, and there was no need for any superficial courtesies.

Between them was an exchange of sincere hearts; as long as the sincerity was there, it was good enough.

Lu Han also understood Tang Su. It was her first visit to Longmen, and no matter what he said, it was normal for her to feel apprehensive inside.

If Tang Su insisted on buying, Lu Han would go select the fruit, but that was all he’d allow.

Tang Su heeded his advice, agreeing to bring just one basket of fruit, selecting some of the most expensive ones to express all her gratitude in that box of fruit.

Looking at the heavy fruits, Lu Han understood her feelings and did not stop her.

The old man was indeed picky about his fruit, only eating the expensive kinds because they were imported, transported all the way from abroad, a completely different approach from his attitude towards seafood.

With everything prepared, the two arrived at Longmen Mansion by nine o’clock.

As Tang Su looked at the gatekeepers in front of the mansion, she felt as if she had entered some incredibly important place.

These people, in their black suits, you couldn’t even see tattoos on the visible parts of their skin. Perhaps her perception had been blurred by the fictional scenes on television; she assumed that people like them involved in the underworld would have tattoos like a green dragon on the left and a white tiger on the right.

Indeed, imagination and reality often differ.

Lu Han’s car drove straight past the scanning bar set up at the entrance to Longmen Mansion. The bar lifted, and the gates of the mansion opened automatically, allowing Lu Han’s car to enter smoothly.

In this manner, they hardly seemed like guests entering someone else’s territory. Instead, it was as if Lu Han was returning home.

Lu Han had hardly parked the car when Long Aotian came over with Long Yi.

Lu Han had popped the trunk before getting out, and without waiting for Long Aotian to speak, Long Yi went straight to the trunk to start heaving their cargo.

As the host, Lu Han had been to Longmen several times before. He was about to cook later to please the old man and was not considered a guest. He should be standing by Tang Su’s side, looking after her.

However, seeing how protective Lu Han was of Tang Su, Long Aotian knew this girl from the Lu family was timid and shy. To avoid scaring her, Long Aotian stood by Lu Han.

When Tang Su got out, Long Aotian greeted her with a warm smile, "Miss Tang, welcome to our humble home."
