Chapter 219: 188 A Happy Accident Gives Lu Han a Little Surprise (Part 2)_1
Before he left work in the evening, Lu Han asked Tang Su what she wanted to eat. Tang Su told him to come straight home, where she was showing off her cooking skills by preparing a table of home-cooked dishes.
Minding not to waste or be extravagant, Tang Su made three dishes and one soup for the two of them.
The three dishes included two meat options and one vegetable.
All of them were perfect with rice: stir-fried pork with garlic sauce, Kung Pao chicken, and sautéed seasonal vegetables. The soup was carp tofu soup.
There was also a dessert with rice—golden sweet corn.
They had meat, chicken, fish, and vegetables, a feast for the eyes as much as for the palate.
As soon as Lu Han pushed open the door to Tang Su’s home, he was greeted by a delicious aroma.
He instantly felt that if he could live like this for the rest of his life, with a wife at home preparing hot meals for him, coming home would no longer mean returning to an empty space.
If every meal was as simple as plain water, what then?
Those who don’t like plain water might find it distasteful, but for those who do, they can’t go a day without it.
Hearing the door open, Tang Su, with an apron tied around her waist and without turning her head as she was putting the final touches on the last vegetable dish, greeted him like an old married couple, "Back already?"
"Mhm, it smells so good." Lu Han changed into his own slippers and did not skimp on praise.
Upon hearing Lu Han’s praise, joy spread across Tang Su’s face, "It smells good, but it might not taste as good. Go wash your hands and let’s eat."
"Alright."
Lu Han went to the kitchen to wash his hands and, while he was at it, sneaked a taste.
"What kind of soup is this?" He looked at the white soup with tofu floating in it, smelled the aroma of carp, yet saw no sign of the fish itself.
"Carp tofu soup."
"Miss Tang, where is the carp?" Lu Han had never seen a carp soup without any carp in it before.
"There you go, the trash can." Tang Su nodded with her lips.
Lu Han was stunned. Did she just throw away the carp?
Tang Su explained, "Don’t worry, nothing was wasted. I minced the carp and then strained the soup. I added some tofu blocks, and of course, my favorite cilantro. But I didn’t put the cilantro directly into the soup since I was afraid you wouldn’t eat it."
"You can add the cilantro yourself when you drink the soup later. Also, if cilantro is directly put into the soup, it will turn yellow and won’t look good."
Lu Han nodded, "Miss Tang is both a good cook and a good eater. I’m in for a treat in the future."
"Well, I can’t be free every day, and it’s not like I have a rich man like Brother Bai every day, who would pay for me to close the shop and take a vacation."
"No problem, from now on in our home, whoever is free will take a seat. Your boyfriend isn’t a novice in the kitchen either. Next time, I’ll cook for you." Lu Han reached out and gently touched the top of her head.
"Hmm, then I should thank Doctor Lu in advance."
"Let’s eat. The little gluttons in my stomach are already watering at the mouth from the dishes you’ve made," Lu Han said as he moved the clay pot containing the carp soup to the table.
Tang Su followed behind, carrying dishes.
Then, Lu Han filled a bowl with rice, Tang Su filled a bowl with soup, and they laid out the chopsticks.
Neither of them waited for the other to be served at dinner.
Nor did they need to say anything; they coordinated seamlessly as if they had a special bond.
Lu Han first savored a bowl of fish soup with cilantro, then picked up his rice bowl. His chopsticks reached first for the stir-fried pork with garlic sauce.
"Miss Tang, who did you ask to find out that I like stir-fried pork with garlic sauce?" Lu Han asked with a smile.
The flavor of the stir-fried pork with garlic sauce was excellent, a taste Lu Han remembered well.
And Tang Su had made it so delicious.
"I didn’t ask anyone. I just cooked what I like to eat. Next time, you cook what you like, and that way we’ll learn what the other likes to eat," Tang Su stated frankly.
Cooking was a spur-of-the-moment idea for Tang Su, not something she had planned since morning.
Considering it was too late to ask Lu Han what he liked to eat, Tang Su simply made two dishes she liked and felt like eating that night.
Tang Su was also very candid; if it had been a more scheming girl, she might have claimed to have inquired about his preferences, or maintained a sense of mystery by saying it was a secret, thereby moving the other person.
Tang Su did not do that; she really hadn’t inquired, nor did she know whether Lu Han liked this particular dish.
After all, the few meals they had together were usually eaten out, and besides, there was plenty of time ahead to figure out Lu Han’s tastes, so there was no need to invest time in asking around.
"That’s a good idea," Lu Han nodded in agreement.
His girl was so straightforward, and he loved that directness about her.
It just so happened that they both liked fish-fragrant shredded pork; from now on, this dish would become one of the staples on their dining table.
The Kung Pao chicken was also delicious. Seeing there were many chilies, Tang Su was worried Lu Han might not be able to handle something too spicy, so she chose a kind of chili called Er Jing Tiao, which is not very spicy.
Then, looking for chicken pieces within a big plate of chilies was about getting the color, aroma, and taste just right; very delicious indeed.
After frying the fish-fragrant shredded pork, Tang Su took the leftover celtuce, diced it, and added it to the chicken as a side dish. The celtuce was tender and crisp, delicious to eat.
The last vegetable dish was stir-fried phoenix-tail, which is actually the leaves of celtuce.
So Tang Su had bought three sticks of celtuce and made three dishes with them.
Actually, it wasn’t just three dishes; she also shredded one stick, pickled it, and put it in the fridge overnight. Tomorrow morning, she would get up and cook some Xiaomi porridge, pairing it with the spicy and sour celtuce shreds—wow, just the thought made her look forward to tomorrow.
Soon, Lu Han also noticed, complimenting Tang Su for her cleverness, "People talk about using one fish in three dishes, or one chicken in three ways, but you took it to the next level with three uses of celtuce? Impressive."
"Not just three, Doctor Lu, it’s actually four uses. There’s also a bowl of spicy and sour celtuce shreds in the fridge, ready to eat tomorrow morning."
Lu Han gave her a thumbs up.
For fish-fragrant shredded pork, some people add wood ear mushrooms, shiitake mushrooms, carrot shreds, and green peppers, all cut into strips. Lu Han remembered eating it with celtuce strips when he tried someone else’s cooking.
In restaurants outside, he had ordered it a few times, but each was a bit different from the fish-fragrant shredded pork he remembered.
Later, he tried to make it himself but couldn’t get the celtuce right—it was either too raw or overcooked and too soft, not a great texture either way.
Eventually, he stopped ordering this dish outside. When he asked restaurant owners if they added celtuce to their fish-fragrant shredded pork, they would counter with, "Why would you put celtuce in fish-fragrant shredded pork?"
So Lu Han gave up on ordering it.
Tonight, thanks to Tang Su’s happy accident, he received a pleasant surprise.
Lu Han didn’t say anything, so naturally, Tang Su was unaware.
But the surprise that Tang Su gave him, Lu Han kept in his heart.
After dinner, Tang Su cradled a plate of golden corn, indulging her taste buds while scrolling through her phone.
Lu Han took the initiative to wash the dishes and tidy up the kitchen.
After cleaning up the kitchen, he also cut up two oranges to eat after the meal, which helps with digestion.
Lu Han sat down and placed the bank card given to him by Long Aotian in front of Tang Su.
"What’s this?" Tang Su was puzzled.
"The car compensation from Chen Guang and Wen Jie," Lu Han said.
"Did Mr. Long help with this?" Tang Su asked instinctively.
Knowing his girl was smart, Lu Han nodded in acknowledgment.
"Then... should I find time to visit to express my gratitude?" Tang Su asked for Lu Han’s opinion.
"I already promised them you would come tomorrow," Lu Han dropped the bombshell.
