Chapter 114: 092 Missing You Sick (2 more)_2

"Where?" he asked, his voice low and chilly.

A bit angry.

How could this girl be so insensitive? She had a high fever this morning, got an IV in the morning, and though her temperature went down, it could still rise again. How could she be so disobedient and go out into the wind?

"She’s at your hospital, Sun Qing caused some trouble, but it wasn’t on purpose. I’m worried about her, so I came to see her. I’m off to the emergency department to find Doctor Bai. You go about your work, don’t worry about me. I’ll hang up now, we’ll talk later."

Tang Su hastily hung up the phone on Lu Han.

Lu Han: "..."

Tang Su wasn’t the type to forget her loyalties over love. In her heart, Lu Han was important, but her best friend Sun Qing was also very important.

At this moment, Lu Han needed to work undisturbed, and given that she knew Dingxian in the emergency department, Tang Su felt it was alright to seek help from Bai Dingxian.

Besides, Lu Han was an ENT specialist; whether the child could be saved or not was for the obstetrics and gynecology specialists to decide.

The emergency department was on the first floor of the outpatient clinic, and Tang Su quickly found Sun Qing.

Upon seeing Tang Su, Sun Qing ran over to her, and when the two girls met, they hugged each other, with Tang Su encouraging Sun Qing.

Bai Dingxian managed to find time despite being busy, "Miss Tang, you’re here? Are you feeling better?"

This was the hospital, and Bai Dingxian remembered Lu Han’s instructions to address Tang Su formally as Miss Tang in front of others.

He wasn’t allowed to call her by her first name, as per Lu Han’s wishes.

Names are given to be used; if one isn’t allowed to use them, then there’s no point in having a name at all.

"Doctor Bai, how is it? Can the child be saved?" Tang Su asked on behalf of Sun Qing.

Sun Qing had just realized that the person who had asked her all sorts of random questions in the ambulance was Bai Dingxian, whom they had shared meals with.

This doctor really had too many quirks; though they knew each other, he pretended not to recognize her in the ambulance.

It was understandable that she did not recognize him in full gear, but he couldn’t recognize her without a mask?

Sun Qing didn’t believe it. But now, with the life of Lei Wei’s unborn child hanging in the balance, her concern far outweighed her need to question why Bai Dingxian had played tricks on her.

"I can’t answer that question right now. If you’re really worried, you can wait outside the operating room upstairs. But first, these fees need to be paid; here is the bill," said Bai Dingxian, handing the bill to Sun Qing.

Without a word, Sun Qing went to the payment window to settle Lei Wei’s bill, with Tang Su accompanying her the whole way.

Bai Dingxian glanced at the backs of the two women, then various emergencies and patients began to flood their department, leaving him no more time to take care of them.

Tang Su and Sun Qing quickly made their way to the operating room on the second floor, where Jiang Shanshan, after escorting a young patient into the operating room, came out just in time to see Tang Su and Sun Qing.

Jiang Shanshan had seen both women before, though she didn’t know Sun Qing’s name.

"Miss Tang, we meet again. You’ve been visiting our hospital quite frequently lately, haven’t you? Someone you know in for surgery?" Jiang Shanshan asked.

In their hospital, every department was quite busy. It was only after becoming a doctor that one realizes how many accidents really occur in life.

After becoming a doctor, especially a front-line doctor, I realized just how busy being a doctor is.

Before entering this profession, I always thought that by going to the hospital, offering doctors some fruit or a red envelope or something, they would treat your case with more care.

In reality, there is no such thing; those are just psychological effects on the patients and their families. Of course, I can’t rule out the existence of such doctors.

But in the vast community of doctors, having a few bad apples is quite normal. Most wouldn’t do that.

It was only after becoming a pediatrician that Jiang Shanshan understood how doctors work like dogs every day. Apart from family members, doctors are the people who most hope you get well quickly, preferably in one go, without having to come back over and over.

They see so many patients every day that it’s exhausting and annoying.

Like her, when she first started her internship at the hospital, she wished for more patients every day. However, when the children who fell ill once or twice a month started coming in too frequently, she would prescribe the same medicine again.

Then they would advise the parents to keep some common medications at home and try them for a couple of days if symptoms appear. If there’s no improvement, then bring the child to the hospital.

For patients, seeking medical care is a form of redemption, a way to solve their problems; for doctors, it’s the most ordinary, everyday job.

"Doctor Jiang isn’t busy?" Tang Su asked with a light laugh.

"Busy, I just admitted a little patient for surgery," Jiang Shanshan replied, "That little patient is really attached to me and Doctor Lu."

Tang Su: "..."

Tang Su understood what Jiang Shanshan meant by that; she was simply implying that she and Lu Han, being from the same department, were better suited for each other because they had common topics of conversation.

Not only did they have common topics, but they also shared the same patients.

She wanted Tang Su to see reality and preferably take the hint to stay away and not interfere with her and Lu Han.

Listening to Jiang Shanshan speak in such a sarcastic manner, Sun Qing was already annoyed. This noisy female doctor even came over to find Tang Su’s discomfort.

Just as Sun Qing was about to stand up, Tang Su held her back tightly. She smiled at Jiang Shanshan and said, "Oh, turns out it’s one of Doctor Lu’s patients. I’ll ask Doctor Lu later. All those picture books he bought before, I wonder if his little patients have finished them."

"If they have, my bookstore has new picture books in stock, and he could patronize us again. Purchase a few more. Speaking of which, Doctor Jiang, you should learn from Doctor Lu. Instead of spending money on coffee for Doctor Lu, it would be so nice to buy picture books for the children."

"Pfft—"

Sun Qing couldn’t help but laugh. Her friend Tang Bao was always so business-minded, never forgetting to promote her bookstore and draw customers no matter the occasion.

Seeing Tang Su deliberately shift the topic away from Lu Han, Jiang Shanshan knew full well that she was feigning misunderstanding.

That’s fine. When her uncle personally steps in to set her up with Lu Han, she doesn’t believe that after knowing her family’s conditions are much better than Tang Su’s, Lu Han would choose her instead of a small business owner.

"Sure, I will," Jiang Shanshan bit back her reply, then ungraciously turned and left.

After Jiang Shanshan left, Sun Qing gave Tang Su a thumbs up. She felt that she too should learn from Tang Su’s art of dealing with enemies with such nonchalance.

If she had that skill, Lei Wei wouldn’t be lying inside, and the fate of the child in her womb wouldn’t be hanging in the balance.

Sigh—
